Am I the only one really disappointed with that? Spoilers below for the Barriss arc of Tales of the Empire

Like honestly, tales of the empire was really a let down. We finally get Barriss back as a character and an opportunity to really see her continue down the dark path she put herself on in the Clone Wars and the writers seem like they were too cowardly to actually show a previously good character do some dark shit? In star wars of all things????

We get Barriss as an inquisitor for barely even a day before she dips.

The episode shows her being released from prison by the fourth sister, trained once (that we see) by the grand inquisitor, after she passes her test by tapping into the darkside and killing a fellow inquisitor applicant she gets her first mission .

She fights some random Jedi who she feels sorry for and immediately shows mercy to, then kicks the Fourth Sister down a cliff and escapes to what looks like Ilum of all fucking places and becomes a healer and ages like 100+ years in the process? Then we get teased that Vader could have tracked her down and is there to do the deed, it isn’t even him, just the same Fourth Sister inquisitor because shes sooo important to Barriss’ story?? Who then on top of it all kills her by accident and feels bad about it😒

We could’ve had so much better. They don’t even tease/mention Luminara, we could’ve had a real master and apprentice reunion that showed Barris taking her down which ties directly into how they captured Luminara at the Spire. They don’t even show Vader having any reaction to knowing who Barriss is at all and he doesn’t even have any interaction with her period!

Barriss basically gets her character and her story thrown away for the sake of them both wanting to actually show a good person doing bad shit for any longer than the five minutes it took for her to kill a fellow ex jedi and then welp she remembers shes a good person and with the power of good thoughts and disney bullshit shes gonna immediately stop being an inquisitor after one fucking mission. Like they forget this is the same character that quite literally BOMBED THE JEDI TEMPLE, FRAMED HER BEST FRIEND FOR IT, AND STRAIGHT UP PICKED A FIGHT WITH STAR WARS JESUS WITH RED LIGHTSABERS SHE STOLE FROM A SITH ASSASSIN??? And now they’re like oh nah she was just mad at the jedi. Okay that makes sense but how do you let someone go from that, to “oh no this Jedi is hurt they may die we gotta save them” fuck all the way out of here.

I’m thoroughly disappointed. What a thematic waste of potential.

Idk what hurts more the fact he died or the fact that he lived just long enough to see that Crosshair, who by his own standards said “no point carrying dead weight”, dropped to his knees right after carrying him all the way back, to beg for him to be saved and only died after hearing that.🥺😭last thing he heard was just how much Crosshair cared after formerly saying he wouldn’t.

obi-wan's eyes filling with tears as he calls him anakin. as he says I'm sorry. for everything. but then walking away with goodbye, darth. finally accepting that anakin's failures are his own, not obi-wan's. and that he truly is vader—even while looking him in the eye. his friend is gone.

This show is gonna end me I swear

ABSOLUTELY LOSING MY MIND, JUST COMPLETELY FERAL because the first time Obi-Wan reaches out into the Force in years, it’s not enough that he’s horrified that Anakin is alive, but that he connects with Anakin. That these two are so entwined the only way Obi-Wan couldn’t know is if he didn’t use the Force, didn’t reach out with his feelings.  Because the moment he does, Vader’s eyes snap open and they’re bound to each other again, just like they always were. Theirs is a love story, because the kind of hate that exists between them can only come from those who loved each other so much they can never stop.  No matter what covers over it, no matter how low those embers burn, their connection is still there, that bond is still there, and we know eventually they will be reunited in the Force when Anakin comes back to the light. But right now there’s only darkness when Obi-Wan reaches out and I’m just COMPLETELY INCONSOLABLE that the first time Obi-Wan touches the Force in years, he feels Anakin, feels Vader’s hate and rage and suffering and pain. The way Leia’s voice fades into an echo in the background, the way you can hear his heartbeat, or maybe Anakin’s heartbeat, maybe their joined heartbeat as they sync up again, that nothing in the galaxy exists in that moment, except Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the love and hate between them.

Look Jake is definitely gonna show up in the fifth episode (and if he doesn't then you know, this show is terrible and I never should've watched, lmao, kidding sort of), but I mean. Could we not have at least had a taste?

Like Steven "oh. We should probably help, right?" And Marc "what no Steven don't touch it" but Steven is already trying to push the sarcaphogus open and Marc comes over and the lid slides off and we get mustache hatted Jake going "About fucking time", and dual confusion looks of "oh it's another one??" From Marc and Steven but before anyone can question anything the door pushes fully open behind them and they turn and start screaming because of Taweret.

Like how hard would it have been to do that for me 😂

I mean they ended the first episode with Marc!!! They could've ended this episode with Jake!
