Now that Donald Trump is president again we should remember that the point of the government’s propaganda isn’t always to convince you that it is true. The point is to pollute your information ecosystem to the degree that your cynicism makes you disengage entirely. To envelop yourself in your own person and isolate you from what actually helps you stay alive.

You cannot counter this with any kind of noble quest to guard/find the truth. All of your trusted media organizations will wither in this environment. Your cynicism isn’t cleverness, the structure of these information systems will just turn your suspicion into gullibility and naïveté. You are not immune. You will either fall into frame with the top-down messaging, or you will be severed from the top. Any pursuit of structural truth here will not connect you to what you need. This is not a choice on what information you consume, we are far beyond that point.

The thing to do here is engage with your community, get involved, and develop the relationships you need to have influence and to help others. You need to know your neighbors. You must identify the pillars of collective support in your area and get to know community leaders. Who runs a clothing drive in your area? Who is supporting and participating at the food bank? Who is engaged in community development initiatives? What organizations/institutions have a ground presence? You need to look at how to accrue and exercise power within your immediate city/neighborhood.

The government will find it easier to control 330 million individuals directly engaged with the top. It is harder for them to control 10 thousand community networks engaged with eachother. It is your unfortunate responsibility to construct oppositional structures in your area. Get to work, or die.
