help a protester pay her legal fees!!!
Utrecht Encampment is asking our community to help us raise 9000 EUR before court hearing July 5 to help a student who was arrested at our demonstration on June 25. [...] On Tuesday June 25, Utrecht Encampment held a demonstration against the continuous refusal of Utrecht University to act against the Palestinian genocide. The last march of the semester was intended to echo and emphasize what we have been campaigning for relentlessly: for our university to stand on the right side of history and cut ties with Israeli universities, companies and organizations that are complicit in the genocide of Palestinians. [...] After the demonstration, the police violently arrested a student protestor from the street, and detained her for almost 3 days on the mere charge of graffiti. Despite our comrade’s continuous cooperation, the police tried to keep her in pre-trial detention for an additional 2 weeks.
We need a lot of help to get this fundraiser done before the hearing this Friday (July 5th 2024), please share and donate!

@mxbuster replied to your post “Any tips on learning to make buttonholes? I've...”:
Wait, Vince, can you take a picture of how to use the scissors? What's the screw thing for? How do I cut the buttonhole with it?
Yes, sorry for the delay!
They work like this! The gap behind the blades leaves room for the edge of the garment, though it's still a bit small for some larger things like coats, and not really much help for vertical buttonholes.
The screw thing is so that you can adjust them so that they don't close all the way, which is useful if you have very short buttonholes. The one on mine is pretty worn and a little bent, but it's not completely stripped yet, so it still works.
These ones aren't as dull as they look, but I really ought to get them sharpened & cleaned up at some point. Mine came from my Grandma and I don't know exactly how old they are, but there are some very similar looking ones in the 1897 Sears catalogue.

ADHD at night: I could write a book. I could get my Master’s Degree. I could go to the club and come home with 12 new friends. I could get a job at that club and meet the mother of my children. I could cure every disease and use my wealth to bring world peace.
ADHD during the day: Fold laundry too hard :( Come back next week

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).
Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.

the thing about Dead White Guys History is like. It is in fact important to learn. The way people are venerated is a mistake, and the way that's the only focus of history is a mistake. But for better or for worse, if you want to understand the origins of the way society is, you do in fact need to read about a bunch of dead white guys and the ways they thought about things.

it has become fashionable to go "he's just like me fr" about franz kafka. here, then, is your checklist for being just like franz kafka: - jewish, but weird about it (load-bearing) - central european - effectively stateless - natural talent for melancholy that both defines and transcends the goth aesthetic - has jokes (most would-be kafkas do not) - absurdly paranoid - sex machine - riven with guilt about being a sex machine - hypochrondriac - genuinely afflicted with horrible diseases - impoverished - starving to death - gender if all of these apply to you, congratulations: you are in fact just like franz kafka. you should probably see a doctor about it. if some but not most of these apply to you, what you consider being "just like [franz kafka] fr" is, more likely, early warning signs of an artistic syndrome known as "boneless Lord Byron", and should not be encouraged
