THE HOT MEDIEVAL & FANTASY MEN MELEE
SECOND ROUND: 10th Tilt
Hubert Hawkins, The Court Jester (1955) VS. Samwise Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda
Hubert Hawkins, The Court Jester (1955) Portrayed by: Danny Kaye Defeated Opponents: - Saburo Naotora Ichimonji [Ryu Daisuke], Ran (1985) - Haldir [Craig Parker], The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
“he's hot both in “local out of his depth idiot mode” and “over the top romantic hero mode”. he fences like nobody's business. he's the only man of all time to pull off a jester outfit and make it look actually snatched. Danny Kaye needs this, please.”
Samwise Gamgee, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003) Portrayed by: Sean Astin Defeated Opponents: - Rand al’Thor [Josha Stradowski], The Wheel of Time (2021-) - Sir Leon [Rupert Young], BBC’s Merlin (2008-2012)
“Prime husband material. The bestest man -er, Hobbit. HE'S A GARDNER. He hits orcs with a frying pan. HE CAN'T CARRY IT FOR YOU BUT HE CAN CARRY YOU-!”
Additional Propaganda Under the Cut
Additional Propaganda
For Hubert Hawkins:
Tumblr media
“He sings! He dances! He fences! He wears really tight leggings!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We love a hot, funny, good-hearted man who subverts the gendered tropes of the subgenre! He is absolutely shit at sword-fighting! He is great at doing funny voices! ‘Tenderness and kindness can also make a man,’ says the awesome trousers-wearing heroine who works alongside him in the anti-tyrannical resistance, ‘a very rare man.’ She's right and she should say it and I support them both so much. Hubert Hawkins, world's sweetest and funniest surprise regent (who gets the girl.) See also attached photo of him goofing around with drums on set, I love him so much.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Sam Gamgee:
“He is the ideal man. He cooks, he gardens, he's loyal, he'd follow you to the ends of the (Middle) Earth while only mildly complaining. He's so loveable. I love him. He probably gives awesome hugs and never says an unkind word about anyone except for Gollum but Gollum kinda deserved it for calling Sam fat. He is also, reportedly, an awesome dad. I love Samwise Gamgee so much. He's such a teddy bear I love him so much. Frodo should've married him.”

Let's ignore any ethical concerns with AI for a second. The main reason to write is because you have ideas that won't leave you alone. I literally do not understand the point of writing bland AI prompts.
How do you feel about using AI to provide oneshot/chapter prompts (not whole chapters, just prompt ideas) for fanfiction?
I like it and I do it
I like it but I don't do it
I don't like it but I do it anyway
Neutral
I don't like it and don't do it
I don't like it and don't think anyone should do it

I think it would be really fucking funny to write a piece of fiction set entirely in real life but using lazy fantasy worldbuilding talk. I gather coin* for the road west** - I will need it to enter the Capital.***

Suffered? I mean, it was a thing I learned in grade school, but I don't remember it being suffering. And I use cursive regularly.
Reblog this if you had to learn cursive writing as a child
If you were ever told or were made to learn cursive writing when you were in grade school. I wanna see how many of you suffered like I did.

But that is also not what it means!
Tumblr media
Dead Dove has nothing whatsoever to do with whether the sensitive topics are condemned in the story or not. It is an intensifier. It just means "I'm really serious about those tags." If the fic says "#graphic depiction of torture #dead dove" that isn't saying that the torture is necessarily treated as anything other than morally reprehensible. It might be, but it might not be. That is not relevant to the Dead Dove tag. It just means "oh boy wow the author is really serious about it being graphic". It means the fic contains exactly what it says on the tin, usually quite intensely, and you don't get to act shocked or scandalized because it's right there in the tags.
"Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings" is a warning.
It is a warning that there will be no further warnings. That's what it means. It was designed into the structure of AO3's tagging system for a reason. If you only want to read fic with specific, distinct content warnings, you should not read "Chose Not to Warn" fics. Period. If you choose to read them, that is on you.
Regardless of whether you think the author is an asshole for any other reason, regardless of what you think of the fic they wrote, they're not the asshole for using that tag correctly and as it was designed.

Fiction Works with Footnotes
Final
Discworld :
Look, I *know* everyone and their mother is going to submit Sir Pterry's works, but it's for good reason. He truly is the footnote king. His footnotes have footnotes. Every single one manages to be absolutely hilarious.
Its Discworld. Thats all the propaganda it needs
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell :
The best book I've ever read with no sequel. Read at your own risk, it is an immaculate novel that will probably never get a follow up. The worldbuilding is some of the finest I've read.
The book is filled with footnotes mimicking academic citations and references to innumerable fake books that really make it feel there is a much wider world out there and the book is only centering on this one period of time
So the book is an in universe academic account and the footntes are basically the watsonian author being salty about historical figures. like what more could you want in a footnote. In terms of the book as a whole, its villain was the inspiration for michael shelley of magnus archives fame so something mustve been done right

This is unironically Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell. There are footnotes, many of which are just in universe citations to books that only exist in universe.
"Way too reliable narrator" where the narrator provides documentation and proof for how they know every detail in the narrative and an estimate of how confident they are in it.

Does it irritate you when you look up a common word or phrase and the first page of results is all a random TV show/video game/etc that happens to have it as a title?
