Cats understand "naughty". In fact I think they're the only animal who understands it. Dogs know "good" and "bad" but not Naughty. Same with theft. Cats know what theft is. They know when they are thieving and you can see it on their faces. Squirrels are thieves but they don't know that. They know "take" and "have" but they don't comprehend what it is to steal. Nor do raccoons or coyotes or any species of rodent. They may participate in theft but they are ignorant of the weight of what they do, the full meaning of it. Cats know what crime is and they do it on purpose.

I post this every year but it’s worth it to remind myself to plant flowers, in the garden and in my mind and whenever I get a chance, in the hearts of others.

my favorite thing is when a hockey player is being complimented and they’re immediately like “it’s my guys. it was all my guys. couldn’t have done it without the boys. let’s bring the boys out here. gonna kiss my guys tenderly on the mouth when I see them next. I don’t even really ‘play’ ‘hockey’ I just jump over the boards and then my boys, they lift me up so I can stand on mountains… they raise me up to walk on stormy seas… I score goals when I am on their shoulders… they raise me up to more than I can be. thanks dan”

Today’s aesthetic: keeping the same tab open in your browser for three solid weeks because you’re definitely going to get around to reading and/or acting on whatever’s in it any minute now.

I kind of wish that the idea that you can just be was a little more mainstream.
Like, having drive and ambition is great. But it gets drilled in kids’ heads that there is some pressure to constantly be looking for the next move up, to be bigger than life. It wears you down to never be satisfied.
Not everyone is destined for greatness. It just doesn’t suit some people.
There’s nothing wrong with having a quiet life, making enough to get by, having a small apartment where you’re comfortable, and just living. You don’t have to constantly be looking to go onward and upwards. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is to just be.

Me: *Removes my cat from my lap to do something else.*
My cat: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.

“Honestly it’s time to wake up. Like - if you’re one of these people that don’t think human rights / these issues have a place in sports… Go watch dog agility. Go watch em run through the cones. Go watch their handlers throw their toy in the water and see how far they can jump and they measure it. That’ll be good for you. You won’t have anything to worry about. You can escape your life cause that’s I guess that’s what you use sports for. Go watch robots punch each other, or shoot a puck around the ice, or kick a ball. We’re human beings not just pro athletes. This is INCREDIBLE what’s happening. This is long overdue. And if you think this is gonna be swept under the rug again, you’re wrong. This is different. So if you’re one of these ignorant people, it’s time to start educating. It’s time to swallow your pride - like I did. I was naive to these things, now I’m woke to them. It’s time to wake up. You don’t want to be on the wrong side of these things anymore. And I’m not saying every part of these issues is right, but we’re gonna figure it out.”
— Kurtis Gabriel aka my new favorite hockey player
