After this week tutorial, I've got some feedback of fasten the ink reveal transition. So I did a little adjustment on my project. At first, I keyframe it in the in and out point of the clip. But now, I changed the end point of the transition in the middle of the clip so that the whole picture of the freeze frame could be seen earlier. This also allow viewers have more time to look at the description of the character. (I also deleted one personality since there were too many words.)

250 word post-mortem
Doing an animation work really involves a lot of trial and error. Without testing the effects, you will never know how would the outcomes be. Sometimes it may be totally different with what you see comparing to what you imagine in your mind. Although rendering the preview takes times, it is worth to give it a go. Besides, it is important to have a well planning before start doing the project especially when dealing with deadline. It is always a good habit to follow a schedule with meeting different milestones so that I may know how far I was left behind the schedule or what stage I was currently at.
Through this project, I have learnt how to create an ink reveal and I found that there are couples of ways to achieve the result. However, I was quite confused when using track mattes at first. So I searched for some After Effects tutorials about track mattes on the Internet and finally I understood the whole concept and could easily applied to my project. Moreover, I’ve learnt how to use expression by controlling the sliders. I thought it was complicated at the beginning because it includes many computer programming languages. Fortunately, I broke through it and found it was a useful effect when creating random variables.
All in all, I understood the concept of ‘less is more’. Using too much effects or funky fonts would just ruin the whole project.

I've used Protools to edit and remix the sound track so that it fit in the 30sec timeframe.

I’ve consider two fonts to be used. The first one is “28 Days Later”. The second one is “Back Ride 342”.

In addition, I’ve an extra idea flashed out in my mind after this expressions tutorial in week 9. I’d like to add a spider graph for each of the characters besides their names to show their personalities and strength.

For the audio part of this opening credits, I found different songs that match it:
Shine - 街口有落 (電影《那夜凌晨, 我坐上了旺角開往大埔的紅VAN》主題曲) Official MV [官方] (Main theme song for the movie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpUw_BOX5FI
David Bowie - Space Oddity cover [紅Van 歌曲 Major Tom] (insert music in the movie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaGB2QSh9fs
那夜凌晨 - ISoFeel (HQ) (a song wrote based on the movie) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=migHWn6AVX8

Since there will be many photo editing needed before bringing into After Effects for the opening credits and I found it not difficult to move files from Photoshop to After Effects, I will use Photoshop to do these adjustments and import them as compositions.

I’ve done some research for the movie to ensure I’m on the right direction. This film is a mystery thriller, based on the web-novel, Lost on a Red MinBus to Taipo. Therefore, in the opening credits, i’ll use only black, white and red as the main colours. Also, I’ll use some paper texture as the background to overlay.

I’ve finalize the style of my project to be something like the above one. I will use one composition for each character I’m going to show and then combine them at the very end. Masking will be used to mask out the character and create different layers. Also, I will create different ink reveals as the effect.

I’ve watched many movie opening credits today so that I could get some of the idea and style to work on. I love the styles of the two below and I think I’ll do something like these for my project. Hope it won’t be so difficult when I start working on.

Time to move on to the final project. The first idea came up with me was to create a movie opening credits. Since I watched a Hong Kong film called “The Midnight After” recently, and I love it very much, my project will be based on this film. The credits will basically introduced 5-6 characters in the film.

This week, we've taught about kinetic typography. I want to learn it for ages!! And I've realized that it wasn't that complicated as I thought. It's only about moving the camera in a 3D space. We've also introduced to some animated effects. There are so many effects in AfterEffects!

There are no lecture and tutorial in this week. I've done some research online and found this video which show us how to make tricks by some simple steps in AfterEffects. I found it is very useful.
