True Vampires: Biological Processes Part 3
Dormancy
Dormancy, like hibernation is a very deep state of stasis that allows a vampire to survive-- but unlike hibernation, this is not a seasonal event, and is based on how much food a vampire is able to consume. Dormancy is specifically a mechanism designed to keep a vampire alive in the event that they are starved of nutrients where they go into a deep, almost coma like sleep and wake upon being fed. In this state, they also have a reflex that will cause them to bite someone upon approach in the attempt to get enough blood to wake. This is the most dangerous condition a vampire can be in, as this is where they are most vulnerable-- weakened by the lack of foods.
Often times, a starved vampire will turn feral and ravenous, trying to drain any human they come in contact with in the attempt to stave off dormancy. It is a very marked increase in aggression as vampires are not usually overtly violent unless they are protecting territory or spawn. Though, after the initial burst of aggression, it fades into a severe lethargy that only leaves enough time for the vampire to find a safer place to keep their body while in dormancy. While actually in dormancy, they are completely dead to the world, unable to rouse themselves and will not react to outside stimuli such as light or sound. They do not breathe, they have no heart beat, and it's as if they are truly dead until they sink their teeth into a nearby target.

True Vampires: Biological Processes Part 2
Hibernation
Unlike with heats, true vampires and higher vampires experience periods of hibernation– a deep state of extended torpor where they can’t usually be awoken through outside means, leaving them vulnerable to potential attacks if not in a secure location.
These periods mainly exist as a method to conserve energy when sources of blood become scarce by the absence of humans when they begin to spend more time indoors and away from where vampires prefer to hunt.
NOTE: Dormancy and hibernation are completely separate from each other. Dormancy is caused by starvation, hibernation is caused by seasonal change.
Physical Effects
The main signs of a hibernation period starting is weight gain. A vampire will begin to put on weight by consuming more blood than usual to pad out fat stores to keep a vampire "fed" while they rest.
Another sign is increased drowsiness and a lack of coherence, likely losing the ability to speak in anything but grunts or slurred words.
The last sign is that their coats grow more dense as an undercoat grows. Often, their body temperature drops while their metabolism begins to slow, meaning that if you have a chunky vampire on your hands– they are either preparing to pass out for three months, or you are overfeeding them.
The main hallmark of a hibernating vampire is being nearly unable to wake-- and if an individual does manage to wake a vampire in this state, said vampire is completely unaware of their surroundings and often dazed or confused.
Behavior
With vampires, they have a period of "pre-hibernation" where they begin to gorge on an excess of blood and begin to prepare a nest in what is deemed to be a secure area by the vampire, made with material that traps more heat– such as, heavy quilts, animal pelts, loose fur, thick clothes, ect.
After the period of nesting in the late fall, they become noticeably more lethargic and often begin to seek sources of heat like fire, humans they trust, or other colony members. They perpetually begin to keep their fur puffed in an attempt to keep warm with their body temperature dropping.
When the time finally comes, they make their way to the prepared nest and burrow under the pile of nesting material and burrito themselves in layers to conserve heat, before wrapping up in their own wings and tucking their tails in to prevent damage from the cold. These nesting sites are usually confined to bed chambers, caves/crypts if left without a home den, or confined rooms in some sort of dungeon underground
In the spring, the vampire slowly begins to come out of torpor and will often be drowsy for about a week after they finally wake. This is due to the fact that they have to wait for their body temperature to rise back to a normal level and allow their body to metabolize the stored fat for energy.

Dracula (Vlad Bat)
Dracula (Vlad Bat)
Over 400 years old 5'6" feet tall True Vampire (Progenitor) 1887-1999 Status: Alive Born as Vlad III Dracula, he spent his human life dedicated to God, showing his devotion through battle and conquest but his life was cut short in 1476-- Turning his back on what he worshiped, he became a vampire upon his death, and came back three days later. From that point, he became a ravenous and feral creature, killing all those who came in contact with him and draining them of their blood, amassing an immense well of souls, before he faded into obscurity and legend after finally calming-- resurfacing many, many years later when a certain solicitor is sent for. After the events of Dracula, he is taken captive by Abraham Van Helsing, and semi-willing serves the man due to natural vampire social hierarchy.

True Vampires: Biological Processes
Heat Cycles
True vampires, regardless of sex or gender, have a “heat cycle” which occurs every year during the rainy seasons of a vampire’s respective countries. Often, if a vampire moves countries, their heat cycles may change in frequency, depending on the rainy season of the new country. It is to be made known that only True Vampires experience this phenomena. These heat cycles are theorized as being an extension of this curse to cause suffering on the one that committed such a sin that God turned them into a vampire upon death. These cycles last up two weeks if they are waited out. Along with this, If some vampires spend years together it is possible for their heat cycle to sync. This cycle only ends after the two weeks is up, or they manage to find a proper “mate” to spend it with.
NOTE: Vampires can’t reproduce sexually.
Physical Effects:
One of the most obvious physical effects would be persistent arousal and being more easy to arouse with an increased sensitivity to physical contact. Even the slightest brush of skin is enough to cause arousal or discomfort. This sensitivity isn’t just restricted to touch and is also applied to scents and smells, a heat stricken vampire’s sense of smell is made even more acute by this affliction–likely to aid in finding and identifying potential “mates.” They have an increased hunger for blood and a higher appetite. Where a vampire that is not afflicted with the heat would drink perhaps a cups worth of blood, a heat stricken True Vampire could drink a gallon an still not be sated. With the hunger, there is also a flushing of the cheeks, lips, ear tips, groin, etc. Along with expanded pupils, giving the afflicted an almost “drugged” look. They also experience a higher baseline body (from 60F to 90F) temperature and sweating. Releasing pheromones. Cramping in the lower stomach and achiness.
NOTE: Vampires, regardless of sex, are self lubricating.
Behavior:
True Vampires experience what is considered to be a “pre-heat” that takes place in the first weak of a cycle. During the course of pre-heat, they display the most interest in nesting. Nests can be defined as a large mound of fabrics, cloth and lined with shed fur. Nesting consists of collecting materials like loose clothes, blankets, pillows, sheets, fabric scraps, etc. and marking territory with scent glands located in the wrists, along with clawing up walls and floors. Often a vampire will pursue this line of action with very single minded intensity in the first week of a heat cycle and very little can break their attention from this task–unless the nest itself is disturbed which will result in a high amount of aggression and potentially a death. In the second week, the interest shifts from nesting to finding a suitable mate and mating with those considered to be desirable partners–Ideal mates are identified through strength, abilities, and scent. Most of the time, a vampire will be attracted to those that have beaten them in battle, due to natural hierarchy.
NOTE: Potential mates do not have to be vampires, and can in fact, be humans. NOTE: True vampires are very attracted to the color red.
A heat stricken vampire tends to be restless with heightened aggression and territoriality. They are extremely protective of chosen nesting sites. In opposition to this, they are more affectionate and submissive with objects of desire. They often tend to scent mark such people via rubbing cheeks and wrists on them. They are increasingly nippy, and more likely to bite. They also display an increased interest in children and babies (colloquially known as “baby fever”), including animals. Liable to adopt young vampires or even baby bats. In the absence of a proper mate, they will proceed to stash offspring (Either people they have claimed as children or vampires they have sired).

True Vampires: The Body
Physicality
A key feature in True Vampires is that they have highly defined musculature with more prominent muscles in the back and shoulders to aid in the usage of wings.
Along with this, they are comprised primarily of Fast-twitch muscle fibers, suited for intense bursts of movement and strength over short periods of time–meant to compliment their particular style of hunting, ambushing.
Their bodies usually store very little fat as those extra calories are repurposed to grow the additional limbs and features when a True Vampire is first turned. These stores are also put towards supplying their muscles with adequate fuel to support their style of hunting. (Much like big cats in this sense, where they often spend a majority of time at leisure to preserve energy for hunting). One of the main exceptions when they put on more weight for hibernation.
Though they are more geared towards bursts of strength, they are also capable of great feats of power when well fed and have been known to throw grown men across rooms. They are capable of lifting up to 1000 pounds if glutted on fresh, human blood.
Because of this muscularity, they also have inhuman speed, and are quite swift to prevent the escape of potential prey.
In part because of their supernatural nature, and diet, vampires are immune to blood born diseases and illness in general.
NOTE: If they are starving, their strength is significantly reduced and they lose muscularity rapidly. After feeding, they become visibly stronger.
Wings & Tail
True Vampires have wings and a tail, these particular structures are based of those of bats with the one thing being that these creatures still have arms. These vampires have extra shoulder blades, arm bones and the addition of an extra set of back muscles– However, where as bat’s wings connect to their ankles, a True Vampire’s wings only extend to the hip. WIng bases are covers in the same fur as the tail (Ex right)
Along with these wings, they also have long, whip-like tails, similar to a mix of rat and bat, extending from where the coccyx would usually end on a normal man or woman. They are also covered in a softer, more downy fur meant to insulate against the cold.
This tail extends around 3.5 feet from the coccyx and is fully prehensile and strong enough to grip and grab things. (Ex left)NOTE: These wings are about 2 times larger than that of a higher vampire
Fur
Another thing with this particular vampire, is that they are covered in fur around their neck with manes that are not unlike that of a lion’s. This “mane” also tapers down their fronts into a line that trails down to connect to fur covering the groin. A similar line of fur goes down the back and connects to the base of the tail.
The extent of this fur extends to their arms and legs with their shoulders to wrists and hip to the tops of the feet being covered, along with their cheeks having tufts of fluff.
This fur may have come to be with the consideration of Vlad’s home climate, leaving them more suited towards colder weather. They also have thick undercoats that keep them warm in winter months, insulating them in temperatures below zero.
In the summer and spring, they often drop this thick undercoat to regulate their temperature in hot weather. This is often shed in great amounts and the left over fur is usually used to line nests
Examples of shedding below.
Feet
Their feet are longer than the average human’s with long toes tipped with claws, these feet are highly flexible and meant to grab. This indicates that they are use to hang upside down, often to drop down from above and ambush or to roost. True vampires have tendons that hold their toes in place so they can cling to their roosts without using energy, and are specially designed to relax in a gripped position. Yes, these are from monster musume.
Claws
True Vampires have retractable claws that are about 2 cm long, and are exceptionally hard. Unfortunately, because of this hardness, they are unable to be cut through normal means.
Their razor edged talons can tear and shred through flesh like a knife through hot butter, often used to slit throats or make cuts to drink the blood from the fresh wound.
Scent Glands
True vampires have scent glands located in located in the wrists, cheeks, sides of neck, groin and inner calf just above the ankles. (Ex below showing location).
These glands produce semi-viscous secretions or oils which contain pheromones and other sociochemical compounds. These secretions indicate information such as status, territorial marking, mood, and sexual behavior.
Often times they are used to mark areas a vampire has claimed, or even people/other vampires that a True vampire wants to indicate belong to them.

𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝
A True Vampire is a vampire that was turned by way of divine curse. Vlad the Impaler/Dracula is the only True Vampire with higher vampires being those he turned, or corpses that were raised from the dead by the spray of blood during his human death in 1476.
The traits of these monsters follow as such:
Eyes
True Vampires have highly specialized eyes, suited for the blackest of nights and have visual capabilities on par with an eagle’s, meaning that they can see prey from two miles (3.22 km) away and have a field of vision of 340°. They can also see in near pitch black. Their pupils are slitted in nature which allow for a more dramatic expansion and contraction of the pupils, giving increased ability to see during night and in dim lighting along with protecting the eyes from bright light during the day. Think of them as similar to eyes of a cat. Their eyes posses a Tapetum lucidum: A layer of tissue in the eye of many vertebrates and some other animals. Lying immediately behind the retina, it reflects visible light back through the retina, increasing the light available to the photoreceptors. This is what causes the eyes to produce a glow and enhances visual sensitivity at low levels of light. (Ex image left) Along with this, they possess a nictitating membrane, this is also known as a third eyelid, it is a transparent or translucent third eyelid present in some animals that can be drawn across the eye to protect and moisten it while maintaining vision. Allows them to keep their eyes moist and protected while they are open.
NOTE: The only disadvantage a vampire has visually, is poorer vision during the day, due to being adapted to night hunting and being nocturnal. Along with this, they are highly photosensitive with great amounts of light causing pain, blindness and overstimulation. NOTE: They can perceive red better than any other color while others tend to be more washed out in comparison. Red is the best color they see/can pick out.
Ears
A True Vampires ears are highly developed and can detect sounds between 1 and 200 kHz. Can hear a human heart beat from about a mile (1.61 km) away, and can even hear the blood in someone’s veins if close enough. They are controlled by around 30 muscles and are hyper mobile. They can move to a forward facing position, droop, perk up and move individually to each other.
They are about 5.5 inches (13.97cm) long with tips that taper into a point. Can be described as “elf-ish” or “elf-like” in appearance, and tend to naturally droop. On the flat inner portion of the ear, they have bat-like ridges which allow for sounds to be amplified. Also allows them to sense vibration at a greater sensitivity and distance. (Example of such ridges below and image of ears + Range of motion).
A vampire’s ears have many nerve endings that also aid in sensing vibration, and can function as an erogenous zone as a side effect of these nerve endings.
NOTE: Refrain from attempting to touch, otherwise you get a very uncomfortable and angry vampire (Ear touching is a social taboo with True-Lesser Vampires, it is seen as a very forward sexual advance, and an unwanted one if touched without consent). NOTE: Vampire’s ears are highly sensitive, leaving them weak to loud noise and high pitch frequencies. They are also sensitive to things like vibration.
Nose
Sense of smell is 300 times better than a human’s, and they have more than 100 million sensory receptor sites in the nasal cavity. They can track a blood trail over 50 hours old and can track something over 130 miles (209.215 km). They can smell fresh wounds about a mile (1.61 km) off. Sense of smell is equivalent to a bloodhound’s.
Mouth
Fangs: True vampires have two sets of fangs for top and bottom jaw with both serving different functions. They can also unhinge their jaws like a snake.
The first set, where the canines would be, are long and more needle-like to aid in making wounds for feeding. They are about 19 mm in length and have a hollow channel which is used to inject venom from glands located above the hard palate. These fangs are also retractable when not in use.
The second set, where a human’s first premolars would be, are shorter. These fangs are about 14 mm in length and possess serrated edges to aid in shredding flesh and causing damage– unlike the puncture fangs, these do not retract.
Venom: Vampire venom is a toxin produced by a vampire’s venom glands (Located above hard palate). The effects of the venom consist of a feeling of extreme euphoria, lightheadedness, weakness of the muscles and a heaviness of the limbs, and being more open to suggestion. The potency of the venom is dependent on the individual and how old the vampire is, as venom becomes more potent as a vampire ages If enough venom is injected when a human is on the verge of death, they become a vampire. The saliva of a vampire could also be classified as an anticoagulant, allowing the blood to flow continually instead of clotting, preventing the scabbing and healing of wounds inflicted by their fangs.
Tongue: A vampire’s tongue is usually around 3 inches (7.62 cm) in length with a very pointed tip for easy access to cuts and wounds caused by fangs or claws. Allows for easier feeding. The tongue is also covered in back facing spines that abrade wounds, causing more bleeding because of the rough surface. Seems to have a mixture of cat and vampire bat (Ex pictured below).

Integra Van Helsing
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚 𝐕𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠
22 years old 6'2" Feet tall Human (Helsing Bloodline) 1999 Status: Alive The descendent of Abraham Van Helsing and the "only" child of Arthur Van Helsing, she is the newest director of the Hellsing organization, inheriting the position at a very young age after the death of her father and uncle. A real feral child, she was often found playing in the garden or hanging from trees with skinned knees and torn up skirts, much to the chagrin of her father who wanted her to be a "proper young lady." But now, with the heavy weight of a family legacy to protect and two vampires to keep under control, she finds herself in a position where she has to bear the mantle of family head in a time period that looks down on women and girls.
Relationships
Walter C. Dornez | Mentor / Servant | ♥♥♥♡♡ She has a very high level of respect for Walter, and trusts him with the care, maintenance, and defense of the manor. She views him as somewhat of a mentor figure as he took of the mantle of main educator when she took over as leader. Vlad Dracula | Father Figure? / Servant | ♥♥♥♥♡ Spent a majority of her early teens and adulthood in Vlad's company after he saved her from being murdered by her uncle. After she freed him from the basement, he has served her loyally ever since. She is very appreciative of the fact that he taught her sword-play and defended her with his life. Though he is odd to her and she doesn't quite understand him, their relationship is strong. Seras Victoria | Servant / lover | ♥♥♥♥♥ Cares very deeply about Seras and has a strong bond with her-- similar to the bond Abraham and Vlad shared. Integra trusts Seras's self-control, with her life and safety. They entered a romantic relationship after the battle with Millennium. Pip Bernadotte | Ally / Polycule Member | ♥♥♥♥♡ Doesn't love him like she loves Seras, but still trusts him by virtue of Seras being a common thread holding them together. Her relationship with Pip is more platonic than romantic, and he's basically her girlfriend's boyfriend. They grow slightly closer after Pip is turned. Alexander Anderson | Respected Enemy | ♡♡♡♡♡ Enemy of Integra and Hellsing as a whole. She does not fear him, in spite of his abilities. Although she is not afraid of him, she does have a healthy respect for the man as a vampire hunter and for his skill in battle. She does. however, have a strong dislike for his attitude about Protestants and "heretics" and does think he's 100% insane.

Vampire Rankings/Classes
What differentiates the rankings of vampires from each other? What makes a higher, a lesser, or even a false vampire? This outlines the rankings and a summary of what they are.
True - Born from divine curse. The first being Vlad III Dracula of Wallachia. There has been no other before him, and no other after him, so far. They are by far the most inhuman of the Vampires with more animalistic traits than all of the other rankings, and far more powerful. Higher - Usually made by true vampire bite. However, the first of their kind came about when Vlad's blood spatter tainted the surrounding corpses raising new higher vampires during his execution in 1476. They have less animal/beast traits than true, but are still inhuman considering they are the closest in proximity to the progenitor. Lesser - Produced from being bitten by higher vampires when venom is injected into the blood-stream close to death. Far less inhuman than the previous ranks, they are closer to the modern vampire than they are to the progenitor. False- False vampires are the modern vampires of the Hellsing OVAD AU. They are by far the most human looking of all the ranks, and are far less powerful as a whole. They are produced through the bite of a lesser vampire, turning a human using venom. Chip - Pale imitations of what a vampire should be, they are created through the chips produced by Millennium, using the corpse of Mina Harker. In the eyes of all real vampires, they are considered less than trash. Human - Humans are exactly what they are, just human. There, however, are special bloodlines that tend to produce people of exceptional skill, intelligence, or strength slightly above what a normal human would be capable. One such bloodline being those of the Helsing Bloodline, who tend to birth those with longer-life spans, increased strength, or higher mental capacity.
Vampire Servants
Ghoul - A zombie-like undead that is under the command of the vampire that bit them. Any level of vampire can produce ghouls as long as venom is not injected upon that human's death. They are usually slow and shambling, but intelligence can vary. Thrall - The sprits of the people a True or Higher vampire has drank the blood of upon death, but does not turn into a ghoul or vampire. They allow the vampire to survive death by that soul being killed. They can occasionally have their own will and personality, but are often just puppets.

General Traits of Vampires
These are the commonalities that all vampires share, regardless or age, rank, or bloodline purity. A summary of things that are what make a vampire, a vampire.
What is a Vampire?
A vampire is a human that has been infected with vampirism. This disease turns the victim into a functionally immortal form of undead that can live forever unless killed through external causes. They can be any sex or gender and possess pale, bloodless skin, a more bestial form with claws, fangs, and increased musculature. In addition to these traits, their ears are longer, and their eyes have a luminous quality–not unlike cinders. They are cold to the touch and have no heartbeat, being living corpses. What is Vampirism?
Vampirism is classified as a blood infection that is transferred from sire to spawn through injection of venom into a human close to death. If a vampire does not inject venom, the victim is turned into a ghoul when drained.
In encounters with these monsters, they have been described as having animalistic instincts and a ‘cat-like’ nature with tendencies geared towards territoriality, aggression, and being prone to incredible arrogance. They possess a solitary disposition and are attracted to small moving objects and cold/dark spaces where they are tend to nest. These traits are consistent across the board for most vampires with the exception to the solitary nature being established colonies, in such cases vampires actually appear to be hyper-social rather than isolationist. In terms of diet, vampires are primarily Sanguinivorous with few exceptions. They are a species that can be classified as hyper-carnivorous predators. Though the consumption of anything other than blood is rare, there have been instances of vampires consuming raw meats, seminal fluids, and human milk. If a vampire is starved, they will go dormant or into a state of stasis to preserve nutrients. A huge thing to note is that vampires are resistant to almost any form of blood born disease or illnesses. To hurt or stop a vampire, holy water, garlic blossoms, silver, or religious iconography/crosses must be used. They cannot enter consecrated grounds such as churches, cross running water, and are weakened by sunlight; along with this, they need to sleep in a coffin with the soil of their homeland. The only surefire way to truly kill a vampire is to stake them through the heart, cut off their head, and burn the body.
Note: Chip Vampires are the main exceptions to most of these rules as they are not "full vampires."

Mina Harker née Murray
𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫
23 Years Old 5'6" Feet tall Infected (Partial Higher Vampire) 1887 Status: Alive | 1999 Status: Deceased (1864-1993) Mina Harker, a victim of Dracula, was transformed into a partial Higher vampire after he attempted to turn her but was thwarted. Left in this state of being that straddles the line between human and monster, she is unfortunately unable to rid herself of the infection and is stuck as creature that hungers for blood. Often craves blood, but refuses to drink it out of a sense of moral disgust, yet gets nauseous when presented with normal food because of said cravings.
Cause of Death: Mina Harker passed away in child birth on November 7th, 1893. Her soon to be child, Quincey Harker, was still born-- suffering from a genetic condition that was incompatible with life. Those who are infected are not meant to live long in this half state of being and and their cells soon begin to die from the venom in their veins.
Relationships
Jonathan Harker | Husband | ♥♥♥♥♥ A deeply passionate and loving relationship, they would do anything for each other. Met young, fell hard and fast. Does not wish to trouble Jonathan with her status and refuses to drink his blood when offered.
Abraham Van Helsing | Close Acquaintance | ♥♥♥♡♡ Though she not claim he is a friend, she trusts him enough to put her life in his hands. He can be seen as a grandfather figure of sorts, someone who she can go to for help. She understands that he was trying his best to keep her safe. Arthur Holmwood | Acquaintance | ♥♥♥♡♡ Someone she is thankful towards, yet can't claim to be friends. Grateful that he helped save her life. Dr. John Seward | Acquaintance | ♥♥♥♡♡ Someone she is thankful towards, yet can't claim to be friends. Grateful that he helped save her life. Dracula | Sympathetic | ♥♡♡♡♡ In spite of what he has done, she does not hate him, and only feels a strange sense of sympathy and pity mixed with horror. Still mentally linked to Dracula as one of his "Fledglings" and can sense general things about his location/emotions/ect.
