The Palais Bulles, or Bubble House, was bought by designer Pierre Cardin in 1991. Located in Cannes, France, it was designed by architect Antti Lovag and the former owner.
I guess Cardin’s heirs tired of it, b/c they want to sell it. Built between 1979 and 1984, and facing the Bay of Cannes, it’s a concrete shell on a self-supporting metal structure. Pierre Cardin was responsible for designing some of the furniture.
The windows and doors are large portholes. The architect was inspired by nature and the straight line was forbidden.
The bubbles, which he imagined as caves, overlap and create interesting games of spaces. It sort of looks like an octopus from this angle.
“I build shelters that bring us closer to nature,” the architect said. The exterior has three pools.
It also has a 500 seat amphitheater overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Along with concrete, marbles, and stones, are softer, more standard furniture pieces in Palais Bulles.
A door in the shape of a circle opens the dining room to the outside. Look at the squiggly ladder.
Spiral stairs.
The architect says that Naval engineering is present in the design. That opening looks like a flying saucer.
The house was expanded from 1985 to 1991- Cardin made the arrangements when he bought it.
Children would probably love to run thru it.
When Pierre Cardin acquired it, it became a place for events, fashion shows - Dior , Jacque Mus… - and other celebrations.
The heirs of Pierre Bernard allow visits and manage an interesting artist residency program in what was the family home. The bathroom is nice.
Very pretty at night, looking at Cannes.
It’s huge, spreads across almost 13,000 feet (1,200 square meters) and they’re asking £280 million ($387,703,400.00).
A small sampling of the images you will find on Thorsten Nunnemann’s tumblr, Born in 1977 this german self-taught photographer based in Aachen loves the look of classic analogue films, especially their colouration and graining that inspire exceptional emotions. I have to say it was tough choosing only ten images to share with you on this photoset.
