Guide on Typesetting Fics with Scribus

I was recently inspired to try binding my fanfiction by @armoredsuperheavy​‘s guide How to Make a Book. But there was a big roadblock there - I run Linux and don’t have access to Word.

So I spent some time teaching myself how to use the open-source desktop publishing program Scribus.

I was pretty happy with the end result (see below), so I’ve now made an instructional guide for anyone else who wants to typeset a AO3 document for bookbinding using Scribus!

i don’t think i’m ever going to recover from @blackthornwine stunning artwork. i wanted a grotesque gothic theme and they absolutely nailed the vibe. tysm 🙇‍♀️

my goal this year is to try using book cloth. i am a wrap girly but sometimes it’s the bane of my existence. i tried printing on book cloth this time and pretty happy with how it turned out.

i used hollander’s verona book cloth and didn’t have any issues with the ink smearing or rubbing off.

this fic has been a comfort read for me, i love the very entrenched POVs that is a signature of fahye's works, and wanted to do a bind that was just as classy as i find her fics to be. somehow you find a way to make my heart ache when i read all of your fics, fahye, and i fall for it every time. it's amazing. i hope you enjoy having this gift copy <3

the art used within is from various pieces of art by Shitao, sourced from The Met. i was pleasantly surprised with how they printed, as recently @celestial-sphere-press has figured out how to wrangle previous printer drivers to get nicer printing from a mac. DOWN WITH AIRPRINT!

With severance season 2 around the corner it’s time for me to share the time I accidentally watched 4 minutes of an episode on mute and thought it was a brilliant way to show the sensory deprivation experienced by the innies

I find it interesting how Seth died such a similar death to Riko’s. A murder framed as a suicide. Like here you have (arguably) the least important Fox and the most important Raven. The first person to die and the last person to die. The character that got the plot rolling and the character that keeps trying to stop its procession. And they just. Die the exact same way. It’s a full circle moment and honestly such a satisfying way for Riko to go. He lived trying to prove that he was special, but in the end he died the same way his victim did.
