In recognition, the university will name it the Steve Hicks School of Social Work.
“By investing in our social work students, Steve Hicks is investing in a fabric that binds communities together. Hurricane Harvey is still affecting Texans and its aftermath will be felt for years to come. Our hearts and our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by the storm – especially our fellow Longhorns.
Many of our students come from areas that were completely devastated. In our ongoing efforts to support these students, President Fenves has dedicated $500,000, including funds from our Athletics sponsorship with Nike, to serve as additional financial aid for UT students who have been impacted by the storm and flooding. He urges members of the UT community to join him by donating funds to match the $500,000. Our goal is to raise a total of $1 million for our students, and even the smallest contribution will make a difference.
Together, we can help ensure the educational pursuits of all our students remain within their reach. Please make a gift today – and thank you for the many generous ways you are supporting fellow Texans and our Longhorn family across the state!

Talk Smack About Vacation Selfie Takers All You Want... But They're Probably Happier Than You
Vacation rental marketplace HomeAway has released new summer research that digs into how selfies can actually change the brain of a person on vacation. The study partnered with researchers at the University of Texas at Austin to look at 700 travelers, surveying the group before, during, and after their vacations. A subset of travelers also downloaded an app that tracks the amount of time they spent on their phones. And the findings of the research might surprise you.
