Honestly, Gong Jun (Wen Kexing’s actor) is so dedicated to his job/role. He actually updates his Weibo banner according to Wen Kexing’s mood for the episode, here’s today’s:
Caption translation: “Today’s rain is so heavy” which is in reference to him getting rained on during his sadness in episode 14.

I dunno if you guys noticed this little detail but here’s something that adds so much depth to Wen Kexing’s character...
When they just started getting acquainted, even if he tried to convince stay Zhou Zishu to let him stay, he never actually used physical force. Wen Kexing would let himself be shepherd out of the room and after, he would just quietly wait downstairs for Zhou Zishu to come down for food, never trying to get back into the room.
As they got closer, Wen Kexing upgraded to straightforwardly barging into Zhou Zishu’s room without knocking or asking for permission. He’ll just push that door right open and the cutest thing is that Zhou Zishu never ever objected to this kind of behaviour. He doesn’t even bat an eyelash.
If you want to read more into it, it’s as if Zhou Zishu’s room is his heart and the door represents the way into it. It’s like he’s telling Wen Kexing that he’ll accept him whenever he wants to come in, no questions asked.
However, after their fight, Wen Kexing stopped. The morning after, instead of barging in as usual, he actually stopped himself right before the room to rearrange his expressions (and maybe give himself a mental boost) before carefully knocking and asking A-Xu for permission to go in.
Unfortunately, Zhou Zishu had already left by then and he ended up alone.
Finally, you can see they’ve completely reconciled just from the way Wen Kexing goes right back to his old ways of barging into Zhou Zishu’s room with barely a notice.
A few “A-Xu!” and the door opens. Once again, Zhou Zishu doesn’t even blink.
So this behaviour is actually really interesting because it says a lot about Wen Kexing’s character.
He acts like he’s super shameless, sticking himself to Zhou Zishu and constantly testing the boundaries; however, if you take a step back and look at things, the one taking the lead where it matters is actually Zhou Zishu.
Wen Kexing is the type to constantly test the waters, but he never actually forcefully crosses boundaries, leaving the real decision up to Zhou Zishu. He’ll indicate that he wants more, but as soon as Zhou Zishu shows reluctance, he takes a step back and doesn’t force the issue. Sometimes, it even takes Zhou Zishu nudging Wen Kexing forward for him to take the next step. This shows that in matters of the heart, Wen Kexing makes a show of acting like he takes the lead, but in reality, he’s super uncertain. That’s why he needs someone solid and constant like Zhou Zishu, who will always be a solid presence by his side.

Here to bring a little pain and feels from Shan He Ling.
So from the newest episode, we get this particular exchange which, in all honesty, can easily be glossed over, BUT it’s actually a really good scene to help us get just how much Zhou Zishu now understands and cares about Wen Kexing.
Wen Kexing: In my life, I’ve yet to judge wrong. It was years ago, I saw a corpse. Her hair was messy and her face, bloodied. She was impaled by a lance which passed below her shoulder blades. I looked a few more times and concluded that she must’ve been a peerless beauty when she was alive.
What’s really interesting about this whole scene is how the camera switches focus to Zhou Zishu despite Wen Kexing being the one still talking. However, it all makes sense if you realize that he’s likely recalling this particular moment from episode 6 where Wen Kexing asked him to carry him using “Mother, carry me! Mother’s shoulder blades are the prettiest!”
While Zhou Zishu’s recalling this, Wen Kexing is very cleary steeling himself for what he’s going to say next, before lightheartedly asking Chengling “Guess what happened after?”.
However, before he gets to say anything else, Zhou Zishu cuts him off with a “What’s in the past should remain in the past. You should also mourn and let go.” which is enough to surprise Wen Kexing into silence.
All of this just shows that Zhou Zishu might not be as talkative nor as physically affectionate as Wen Kexing, but he pays attention in his own little ways. From one little moment that most might forget, he was able to piece together a complete picture and realize that this topic is likely something that brings Wen Kexing immense pain. Because he has an idea of what happened, Zhou Zishu stops Wen Kexing from saying any more, almost like he doesn’t want to see him trivializing his own feelings.
And that concludes this scene for me. All I can say is that it’s really cute how they’re already acting so overprotective over each other, with Wen Kexing saying he’ll take the life of anyone who hurts Zhou Zishu and Zhou Zishu remembering every little thing about Wen Kexing and being there as silent support.

This is what makes a legendary bl adaptation.
It’s scenes like this that makes fan become diehard followers of a series.
It’s when the actors manage to convey so much love and affection through micro-expressions, from the unconscious softening of the eyes, to the slight upturned lips, to the contentness you feel just by being in the presence of the one you love, and to the way you can’t help but call out their name or stare at them even though they are right in front of you.
Seriously though, props to the actors for conveying all of this so naturally, which is what makes it all so believable. They don’t force out unnatural lines or constantly find themselves in each other’s arms like some kind of shitty slapstick comedy, it’s just the natural progression of two people who have found their soulmates.
People adapt bl dramas thinking that fans just want to see two guys together. They think that as long as they have two guys, we’d buy into it. However, in some cases, less is more. What we really want is the chemistry between two people. What we want is for them to portray real emotions in a believable manner. At the end of the day, it’s the deep affection that keeps us hooked, not tasteless and meaningless skinship. It’s the helpless look when they think the other isn’t paying attention, the way they find themselves drifting close to each other, the ease with which they come together that gains a fan’s recognition.

[Translation of clip]
Wen Kexing: A-Xu!
Zhou Zishu: What are you doing, soul calling?
Wen Kexing: I just feel that, to live, to bask in the sun, and to have someone’s name I can call out like this... it’s really nice.
Zhou Zishu: It is pretty nice.
Zhou Zishu: Old Wen.
Wen Kexing: Mn?
Zhou Zishu: Let’s drink.

Episode 17 preview is actually gonna kill me, good lord. The way they’re both dancing around each other in this scene, hiding their true feelings but also not really, how the raw emotions bleed through their every word and move, barely holding themselves back...
I’m never gonna stop complimenting how the actors nailed the characters’ feelings, how Wen Kexing’s intensity bleed through his every stare, how you can feel his desperation (and despair) every time he looks at A-Xu... then for Zhou Zishu, you can tell that he’s aware of the intensity but chooses to not address it directly, acting like he’s brushing everything off and not being affected, but then, when it counts, you can see how much he cares as well.

[Translation]
Wen Kexing: A-Xu, come. Drink!
Zhou Zishu: You clearly know that my lifespan is limited, yet you still wear a mask to brush me off.
Wen Kexing: This isn’t fake. This is real.
Zhou Zishu: What’s real is you looking for a beating.
Zhou Zishu: Brat. I’ve said it before. I’ll bet that I did not judge wrong. I bet that the day will come when you open yourself up to me.
