Chapter 7: A Forced Hand
On the day of the final meeting before the crusade was to begin,  Menahem was caring for his three wards as always. That is until Cedron and Hebron came over to them. Menahem groaned quietly as they did, trying to ignore them at first. Especially since his youngest brother Samson's cape was being difficult.
Cedron being ever the instigator began, "Babysitting again little brother?"
"They are my wards Cedron, what else do you expect of me?"
"Ha, you can call them your wards all you want Menahem. Yet runoffs they were, and runoffs they'll remain.", Cedron taunted.
Hebron in turn smirked, "Indeed, runoff runts who would've and frankly should've died like the others before or after them."
Growling Menahem stood up, "Don't you have anything better to do?"
"Well yes we do actually. Absalom sent us to collect you from your...'task'.", Cedron stated mockingly.
"That's obvious, but what does he want of me?"
Hebron smacked his back, "He wants to hear about your plan of course."
Menahem's eyes widened briefly, "My what?"
"Come on, don't tell me you forgot about it like Lilith said you did.", Cedron chided him.
Realizing fully now what they were on about, Menahem sighed, "Well...I did have an idea for a plan yes. Specifically for a...first attack."
Hebron quickly placed a hand to his mouth, "Sssshhh don't spoil it on us. Save it for the meeting. Besides, discussions for the war tent are not meant for children's ears to hear."
Jael stamped her foot in anger at the elder twins. While Samson grunted alongside her, not noticing his cape fall off his shoulders. Issac meanwhile pretended to not care or notice, but in truth was rather miffed as well.
He thought to himself briefly, "If I had the strength, I'd make you eat that shit in lead."
Menahem sighed again, this time in annoyance, "If you insist, but only to spare them until they're ready."
An unfinished gun is then slammed down, "Maybe not Jael or Samson, but what about me?!"
"Calm yourself Issac.", Menahem replied simply and firmly.
"I AM calm. I just want to know why you're not letting me come, again. I'm old enough, I'm ready."
"Pff...heheh..No, you're not. Best learn your place and stand down boy." Cedron warned.
"You're not my boss, and I'm not your problem either."
Hebron swiftly raised his arm, causing Issac to flinch, "Indeed you're not. But you're becoming a problem, slowly. You don't want to be a problem for us boy, trust me. Now step off and stay in line with what you're told child."
Issac remained frozen for but a moment then looked back at Menahem, "Big brother please, I promise I'm ready. I just need to finish my gun and.."
Menahem walked towards him and placed both hands on his shoulders, "You need more than a weapon of your own to be ready Issac. The only reason I can enter those tents is because I'm the youngest Firstborn of us all. Not entirely a true mature adult yet, but I'll get there soon enough. You on the other hand, clearly need more patience, discipline, and training in general. Now stay here with your siblings and keep a watchful eye on them, please."
Issac scoffed but went back into the tent as directed. Menahem shook his head in response before walking back towards the war tent, the twins following behind him before quickly matching his pace. They reached the war tent quickly and found everyone else waiting for them. Menahem took his usual place beside Absalom, glancing at his remaining elder siblings. His eldest sister Lazuli stood at Absalom's other side. Next to her stood the other elder sisters in order from strongest to weakest, Jadeite, Opal, and Onyx. The twins stood between them and Methuselah. Thusly Sio was between him and Menahem. As everyone was finally situated, another person entered the tent. One they all bowed to, Absalom and Menahem included.
"My beloved children, you look well."
Absalom nodded, "We are doing well indeed Mother, more than that in fact. The generations have been formed and forged as needed. We are more than ready to begin the crusade to gain our rightful place in Creation, to earn the home we've been denied."
"You very much are my son. But one does not just begin a battle without a plan, or a backup in case of troubles in the first. Which is why we are here now. More specifically, why Menahem is here today.", Lilith expressed with pride before looking Menahem's way, "I trust you recall our discussions about it, and that you've prepared a potential backup plan as I've asked you to?"
"Uhm uhh...I remember the plan yes. I've also worked together a backup plan to be safe.", Menahem replied nervously.
"Well, let's hear it then.", Lilith stated tapping her nails against the table.
"Of course Mother...uh right on that.", Menahem said before telling them all his plans. How the Ravaiim would be a perfect first conquest for them. That with the race's natural abilities of flesh crafting they could do far more. With it they could push the potential of the Ravaiim past the primitive stasis they remained in. Far past and greater even than they may even potentially think of reaching. Menahem ended his idea off with the following words, "That all said, I propose we attack the Ravaiim. That we use their abilities with our best equivalents to Makers we have, to create something. Specifically, weapons. Weapons capable of mass destruction, and power greater than one could possibly imagine! FULL OF THE POTENTIAL OF AN ENTIRE RACE THAT COULDN'T EVEN BEGIN TO FATHOM IT AS THEY'LL SOON REACH IN OUR HANDS!"
Menahem then stopped and watched nervously as the others silently gawked at him. Finally Absalom spoke up, "This plan...is brilliant brother! No wonder you waited so long to tell us. This will no doubt be a difficult endeavor, but Gulbannan's work will undoubtedly be of use to us. Not to mention your personal expertise and in depth research of the Ravaiim."
"You... really believe so Absalom?", Menahem inquired almost timidly.
"Why of course Menahem! I was hoping for something like this in fact. Not only would capturing the Ravaiim's homeworld be simple, but also strategic. I say simple because really who would aid such a small, primitive civilization? According to Lilith's words on them, no one really looks their way anymore. The idea you've given us for their natural abilities would give us weapons beyond imagination. No one would expect it, so they'd be a perfect surprise for our enemies."
Lazuli cocked her head, "Hmhm yes yes, we got all of that already Absalom. Personally, I must ask if we intend these weapons to be given to our kin as a whole?"
"A good question indeed. I am of the opinion that the young ones cannot handle such responsibilities. That only we should take them on.", Onyx stated with a step forward.
Sio then looked at her, "But what if there comes a time we want our younger generations to wield them?"
"Not if...when. There will be a time where it is needed.", Methuselah corrected.
"And what makes you so sure?", Hebron questioned him, "What could possibly be a reason that would ever happen?"
Cedron nodded, "I agree with Hebron, nothing is ever set in stone, not really. The younger generations are not ready for such things, nor do I believe they'll ever be."
"Tsk tsk tsk. Close-minded and short-sighted as always little twins. Lazuli makes a good point to ask such an important question, you two however just yap your mouths uselessly. Perhaps when you say something useful, we'll start taking you both seriously again.", Opal chided them as her finger wagged.
Cedron growled, "Look who's talking? If it isn't Lazuli's favorite pet."
"Indeed, you only bark at us because you're her mutt. At her every beck and call no less. Meanwhile, you're too afraid to use the intelligence you do have. As she tells you to be.", Hebron added on almost gleefully.
The sound of Absalom's axe handle hitting the ground silenced them all, "Enough bickering! We are adults, the eldest in fact! Menahem is the only exception for now. But I will not tolerate the rest of you acting like children. Now to answer the big question before us....", then he looked to Menahem.
Menahem thought for a time on the concerns presented, despite Lazuli's tapping nails annoying him the whole time. Finally he came up with the solution to it all. How the young ones shouldn't be given leeway with the weapons to come. At least not right when they're created. Rather there would and should come a time for them to wield the weapons. However, they could not simply be trusted to leave well enough alone after being told they cannot use them.
"No, instead we will create a fail-safe. Something only we Firstborn know about for now, which ensures we have the best chances with the weapons. We must also use it to keep the younger kin from using them at all, or to our level at the very least. In a perfect state, it would at best give a fraction of the power. But what should the fail-safe be composed of? How much of it should we need if quantity is of concern to us? And what about keeping our enemies from using these against us?", Menahem scrambled in silence.
Absalom eventually touched his shoulder, "Should we adjourn?"
His head shook as his eyes blinked hard, "Hmm? Oh no. I've pretty much got a plan in place. But no idea how to enact it just yet. That's what I'm trying to figure out now."
Lazuli cocked her head in the opposite direction and muttered, "About time."
Glaring briefly he replied snidely, " Well sorry that I can't fit your perfect mind in my own sister. You try figuring out how to keep these weapons out of enemy hands. As essentially we need a fail-safe on the weapons. To ensure that for a time only we know how to use them to begin with. We will also be the only ones with the ability to use them at their fullest potential. The fail-safe in turn thusly prevents the younger generations and our enemies from using the weapons fully, or at all. Finally we will be the only ones aware of this fail-safe. At least until we finally decide when the younger members of our race are ready for such knowledge and strength. Unfortunately I do not know what it should be made of, or how much we may need."
Absalom placed his hand on Menahem's shoulder again, "Easy brother. She's getting under your skin again. Do not let her. Instead just ignore her, and give your brain a rest for a moment. If I cannot think of anything, perhaps Mother can. But I'll need a moment to indeed think."
He then indeed took his time on that, wanting to be absolutely sure before coming to a conclusion, "Menahem is correct. We do need something to ensure we have absolute control over them. Our younger kin, even when the time comes, can't just be allowed to use such powerful weapons without limits. The question is what should we use as the limiting factor then?  We are making these weapons from living people by the sound of it. Perhaps that is in fact the key to the puzzle. This will...no doubt be a gruesome affair, but a necessary one. So naturally there is no use cleaning hands that will and must be dirtied time and time again. We will use something else of the Ravaiim to fail-safe the weapons then. Something limited in quantity, but not terribly so. A renewable source that we can control. Even if it may slowly deplete as time passes, our kin will still be able to use most of the weapons to a lesser degree. But what can we....Shrragh! What the he...oh.".
Absalom checked his hand after having cut himself on his own axe. Everyone in turn jumped at the sudden sound, then looked on in both concern and curiosity as Absalom looked at his cut hand. Menahem in particular noted his expression going from annoyance to realization.
"You alright brother?"
"Blood.", He replied quietly.
"What?", Menahem asked confused as Lilith looked on in pure delight. Having been watching silently after her introduction. Seeing no reason to say much until needed.
"Their blood Menahem, that's what we will use. It's like the things from your books you always prattle on about. How blood is a key component in the body, one that if enough is missing the whole thing shuts down! If blood can keep a man alive, then these weapons can be kept going with it as well! And this way we use every bit of the Ravaiim we can, nothing will go to waste."
The rest of then Firstborn siblings all looked on in amazement at this revelation from their eldest. Menahem did look amazed, but he was only amazed at Absalom having shown that he did in fact listen to what he had to say. The main thing he felt about the revelation itself however, was an ever growing sense of horror.
Lilith meanwhile smirked as she looked on at her excited children and clapped, "Very well done my son. I shall brief Gulbannan on this as well when I next see him. After all as you said before Absalom, he can likely help with a few ideas of his own."
Menahem gulped hard, but tried to hide it from her. Lilith glanced his way but before she could ask he explained, "Just the excitement Mother. Trying to contain it, that's all."
Lilith smiled and ran her hand along his face ever so tenderly, "Menahem my child, you needn't curb that excitement. Embrace it. Take in the moment. For this is one of the biggest moments in your people's history. Share it with them, bask in the glory of being its architect. That way as you remember this moment for eons to come, you will have no regrets."

Darksiders: Origins
Chapter 6: Styxian Bloom
Menahem prepared himself with a little grunt as his elder brother Hebron shakily forced himself to stand. However just as the two charged, a small group of Limts came rushing into the room. Ale hadn't any idea how they came inside, but knew they were crafty creatures for sure. Upon second glance in fact, she realized these were the Limts Menahem had been around the most. She couldn't help but wonder if they could somehow sense something was wrong. That their growling came from a want to protect him. She didn't have long to theorize though, as things quickly turned from bad to worse. Hebron in his anger at the sudden interruption of the little rodents, grabbed a nearby pipe from a scrap pile on the floor. What happened next horrified Ale, pleased Lilith, and concerned Absalom all at once. Menahem screamed and hopped onto Hebron's back to try and stop him, but nothing could be done. The little creatures were battered all the same. Most died on impact, while a few others died slowly and painfully. Menahem was finally thrown off just as the final Limt was batted in his direction. The little creature slowly crawled over to Menahem, who recognized it as a favorite. Hugging the critter tightly as it passed away, to Lilith's growing disappointment.
Hebron only taunted his grieving little brother, "You're pathetic. They're just animals. They're useless to us anyway. Yet here you are, crying like a baby over a dead one. If you cry over everything killed, you'll just join them."
Menahem glanced up, tears streaming down his face as Hebron raised the pipe to strike him next. Angrily he whispered in an almost ghost like tone, "..Away."
"Huh? I can't hear you whelp!"
"Get..away.", Menahem repeated, but barely any louder.
Frustrated, his brother shouted, "SPEAK UP!"
Menahem screamed at him now, "GET AWAY!!", and at that a strange bright, cool green and purple energy filled the area around them.
It swirled around the two siblings and began seemingly to settle along the ground. That is until the energy snaked its way around towards each of the Limts' little bodies around them. Projections of each precious soul rose up from the bodies and growled at Hebron. The boy raised the pipe, ready to bat at them again. Once the soul of the Limt in Menahem's arms rose up, it began to bark. The rest joined in unison, barking madly with little growls mixed in here and there. Hebron shouted at the souls to shut up and swung at each one that came too close. His pipe only went through them like a knife through butter, doing no harm as it did so. After all, one cannot harm what is already dead. As Hebron began to panic, swinging every so often in a futile attempt to keep each rodent's soul at bay, Menahem stood up. Still carrying the body he'd been hugging, he raised a single hand. Hebron watched in horror as his little brother's eyes held a sudden green and purple glow to them.
A voice resounded alongside Menahem's, one much more ancient than any that anyone in the room had ever heard. Save for Ale who stood frozen at hearing it, and Lilith whose interest was now thoroughly peeked at this, "Go, and take your revenge little ones!"
With that each Limt soul surrounded Hebron and began to attack him. While their size meant he wouldn't be harmed much at all, Hebron was still shrieking like a banshee in mourning. One might think the critters were devouring him if they couldn't see for themselves what was actually happening. After Hebron had been scratched and bitten many times the critters soon stopped of their own accord. Seemingly satisfied as they all walked back to their little bodies before disappearing entirely.
Menahem's favorite stuck around though, and followed the boy as he approached Lilith, "Mother, can I bury them?"
Lilith waved him off to do so with little thought about it. Not caring what he decided to do. Right now, her mind was hyperfocused on needing to train Menahem's truly powerful talent. Ale meanwhile helped the child gather each body into a basket. She then led him outside of Llildan's lab to find a proper spot to bury them all. Soon Ale found a soft enough place within the dirt, and began digging. Eventually there were eight holes prepared for each Limt to be laid to rest in. Ale let Menahem take his time to gently pet and cuddle each one before placing them in the holes. He hugged the leader one more time upon him being the last one to be buried. Ale joined the little hug gently after ensuring Lilith wasn't watching them. Finally Menahem carefully placed his little friend in the final grave. Each one was then just as carefully refilled by Ale as Menahem watched on. Once each hole was filled up, Menahem placed his hands on the ground in front of them. After a moment more green and purple energy came forth, this time a warmer shade. As it snaked and danced around each grave, holly flowers sprang forth. Eight sprigs in total for each grave, and each was supported by ivy vines that connected them together. Once this was done Menahem sniffled once before flopping onto his side. Ale quickly rushed to him, and was relieved that he was just exhausted. Meanwhile the Limt soul that followed him, licked him one more time before disappearing at last.
Absalom then revealed himself to have been watching and hurried over, "Is he alright?"
"Yes, just exhausted himself I think. He's out like a light." Ale stated calmly whilst stroking his head.
"I'll take him home, and you should probably head to your own too. Lilith's got big plans, and I fear we may not see you again for some time. That said, I want to thank you Ale. For watching over Menahem, and ensuring he'd thrive. I honestly don't know where his sudden power came from, but it definitely helps in regards to Lilith's attentions. So again, thank you and...farewell."
Ale only smiled warmly, "Goodbye Absalom, take care of him as best you can, and of yourself too. I hope...that we'll meet again someday."
Absalom nodded, then walked away as Menahem slept in his arms. Ale watched them for a time before deciding to check the remaining Limts in their pens. They'd noticed the missing group and the ceremony. Ale could tell they'd put two and two together, as they solemnly went about their day. She gave them some pampering to help with their coping. Course she found it helpful to herself as well, distracting her from the pain as she watched Lilith leave for a final time. Taking the children with her once Llildan had ensured they'd all been healed. Lilith turned her gaze to Ale as she stepped outside. Then made her way over for but a moment, carrying Menahem in her arms.
Solemnly he stared at Ale as Lilith told her, "Things started off slow and you did take your time backing off. However, I still owe you some thanks for getting my children this far. As well as for Menahem's sudden power. So I will allow a goodbye of sorts, as I'm sure he will miss you, for a time anyway."
Ale paid no heed to Lilith's jab though, reaching her hand out to Menahem. He followed suit and they remained that way for a brief while before Lilith's patience ran out. She pulled Menahem away and turned around to leave. Menahem however forced himself into a position where he could look back at Ale.
She watched as he gave a little wave and heard a quiet, "Bye bye.", come from him.
He then settled down for Lilith, who had rolled her eyes at his need to actually say goodbye to Ale. Ale returned the wave in turn regardless, maintaining her smile for his sake. Then Lilith opened a portal to her home in Hell and bid each child to step through it. They all did so and Ale felt a pit in her stomach as Menahem disappeared with Lilith through the portal, Absalom following after them. Only then, as the portal closed, did Ale begin to sob. Breaking down as Llildan approached her silently.
As he placed an arm around her, which turned into a hug and thought to himself, "I should've told you instead to not get attached."
Meanwhile Menahem and his siblings would come to be reared up by Lilith. Her magic aging them up quickly as years went by. Which also caused significant growth in their musculature, among other 'gifts' it granted them. As those years passed, Menahem soon grew into a fine specimen of a young man. By Lilith's, and Absalom's standards that is. Never the less, Menahem used this to his advantage as much as his elder siblings did. Yet he also proved to have an adaptive mindset, observing all he could before making most decisions. Whether it was during a battle, or discussing of plans, he was cunning and creative. Eventually this mindset led to the blossoming of the idea to attack the Ravaiim race. An idea he first shared with Lilith, who did nothing but encourage him. Strongly pushing for him to hold nothing back and to do anything it takes for his people. So that his plan would come to fruition when the time came to enact it. As Lilith kept putting pressure on him to go along with his vicious plans for the Ravaiim, she also revealed her own plans. Something put in place in order to ensure the Nephilim's future as a race was secured. With the help of her Maker lover Gulbannan, who'd been secretly fed bits and pieces of information about Ale's pods, she found a way. Gulbannan designed and made what he called a 'revised' version of the pods. These were more mechanical in nature, but did use the same pods as before. Menahem could almost swear that the technology reminded him of Llildan's labs as well. Regardless of what he thought or felt of it, the new pods would be used. Lilith asked all but Menahem himself to contribute their essence to the pods as they saw fit. To create more Nephilim faster, and to ensure strong lines whose genes wouldn't be diluted overtime.
The first of the next generation from Absalom's essence were all quite strong. Almost reaching the levels of the Firstborn by a slim margin. Menahem saw one that struggled as he once did, and took it upon himself to ensure he'd thrive too. Wanting to do what Ale had done for him, even after having his long hair pulled by the infant. Absalom allowed it, if mainly because this act reminded him of Ale, whom he silently missed. Menahem for his part wondered if Ale would be proud of him for this. But he was especially worried if she'd be disappointed at his plans for the Ravaiim, which is all that held him back for that time. Lilith only pushed ever harder, though he tried to hold fast against her. Menahem in the meantime named his current charge Issac, and he proved to be quite inquisitive. Also extremely talkative and almost equally as creative as Menahem was with a sneaky streak. All these things Menahem encouraged in him. Even once catching Issac trying to make his first gun as a preteen. Only for it to explode in the kid's face.
"Issac, what are you doing?"
Issac's hands were behind his back as he answered timidly, "Uhm...nothing much."
"Now now, give me the truth of it. You know you've nothing to fear from me.", Menahem replied shaking his head.
"Ok...I uhm...I made a gun...", he started nervously whilst showing off what remained. Then as a small piece flew off he continued, "...well sort of."
Menahem observed it briefly before patting the boy's head, "Take it you want some help?"
"Yeah...I wanted to make it all by myself so you'd be proud. But...I guess I need help after all huh?", Issac told him solemnly.
"It's alright Issac, I'm sure you'll nail it on your own someday. For now, how about I show you a few things and give some pointers?"
In time, Issac did master his skills in tinkering whilst Menahem recieved a new ward from Absalom to look after. This time an infant girl with quite the fussy nature about her. She also pulled Menahem's hair, much to his annoyance. He noted how it was a harder tug than Isaac's. Choosing the name Jael for her, and finding overtime as she grew that the fussy nature was only a prelude. Turns out she developed a truly fiery temper on her. Often blowing like a powder keg if provoked too much. Often he had to reprimand her for being too rough, even for Nephilim standards, which heightened over the years.
On one such occasion however, things were different. He found her bruised up as usual and muttering under breath, "Stupid boys telling on me. I'll show em, break their teeth in if I see em again."
Menahem naturally checked on and questioned her immediately, "Jael what happened this time? More simple teasing? I thought I told you to ignore it."
"You also said that if ignoring didn't work then I could use force. They didn't go away and shut up. Just made a game of it."
"I never said that." Menahem told her sternly.
However Issac, now a young teen, hollered over, "Yes you did!"
"Stay out of it Issac!"
"Make me!"
Menahem groaned and shook his head before turning back to Jael, "Ok so I did say that, but did it work?"
"Kind of. They ran away crying, but then one of the adults found me afterwards."
"Woah woah woah, an adult, one of our elders, did all of that to you?"
"Mmhmm."
That was all Menahem needed to know before tracking down the elder sibling that did the deed. It turned out to be one of the twins, and he then gave him the same type of beating Jael had gotten. With the other choosing not to interfere. Menahem didn't stop until he was begged for mercy, only then did he let the fool leave. Jael wasn't bullied nearly as much after that. The final charge Menahem was given would be named Samson. He was a much bigger infant than Issac and Jael had been, and much stronger. Nearly ripping Menahem's hair out when he pulled on it like his elder siblings before him. Through all of this however, Menahem was still hounded by Lilith more and more. It worsened as time drew nearer for the Nephilim to begin their crusade. Lilith had also been feeding them, mainly Absalom, with ideas that they deserved a home. That if the Creator would give them no home, they'd just have to take one by force. Even Menahem believed this, but was still afraid of letting his ideas be known. This stalemate however, was about to reach it's end.

Chapter 5: Losing Innocence
Lilith took over the brunt of the operation from Ale as she'd insinuated previously. Only having Ale around for things like ailments, feeding, and child rearing that didn't involve her teaching them anything. Course Lilith did allow her one piece of leniency. If only because Menahem was taking a bit longer to respond to the pods and Lilith's magics to enhance their aging. Ale made sure not to push the boundaries Lilith placed up, mainly for her Father's sake. However, she wouldn't let up elsewhere in fear Menahem wouldn't thrive. Absalom luckily did get the lad walking easily enough, and talking was only hastened from there. From there Lilith finally allowed a time for her children to interact with each other. Wanting to ensure their bond was strong early on. Each of them being the equivalent of Preschoolers in age. All except Menahem who only got as far as a toddler in age before Lilith gave up using her magic on him. Luckily his closeness to Absalom made bonding with the others a little easier. He was noticeably shy around his sisters; Lazuli, Jadeite, Sio, Onyx, Opal, and Pyrite. Though he was a little curious about Sio. The now older girl did hear him as he approached, but her eyes never developed sight. So blind she had remained, though she did glance his direction. Spotting his smaller outline when compared to her brothers and sisters. After the two acknowledged each other's presence, one of their brothers, Methuselah, stepped over. He surveyed the two silently before sticking around. The three awkwardly observed each other in silence, Sio having the harder time of them, as the others mingled. Lazuli and Jadeite formed a clique with Opal and Onyx quickly. Though much to Ale's concern and Lilith's delight, Lazuli was quick to establish a pecking order. With herself on top, Jadeite following after, then Opal with Onyx on the bottom. At least it started like that before Onyx proved stronger than Opal and Jadeite funnily enough.
The little fight worried Ale, but Lilith raised her hand to stop her, "I won't be needing your kind of interference. If I need any at all, Absalom can break them apart. For now, let them sort it out themselves."
"What if they get hurt?"
"They'll get hurt anyway as adults. Best they learn how to manage it now. The injuries at that age will happen more often, and be much greater. I'd like my little warriors to learn how to take it early on. What good is a warrior who can't handle pain after all?" Lilith chided.
Ale stood back as directed, but truly was at a loss for words. She couldn't begin to imagine the little toddler she'd been caring for becoming so violent. She also observed the two boys that were closest, Cedron and Hebron, laughing together as the girls fought it out. It didn't seem to matter how much Onyx bit and punched Jadeite and Opal before they backed down finally. Not to say Jadeite and Opal weren't vicious themselves. With Jadeite using her environment and Opal using Onyx's body against her. Well as best she could for someone her age anyway. Course when Onyx turned her attention to Lazuli, the blue eyed child had little issue with her. Lazuli zipped around the room they were in, dodging each attack from Onyx and throwing taunts her way. Eventually Onyx was too worn out to continue and begrudgingly conceded with being a lackie to her sister. Lilith's smirk only grew wider as the biggest boy Urias stepped up to test Lazuli. Lazuli at first sicked the still out of breath Onyx at him, only for that to quickly prove a failure. Opal and Jadeite recovered just enough to try helping, again at Lazuli's commands. Urias defeated them just as easily as Onyx. Using his greater strength and fists to great affect against them. Menahem hid behind Sio as Methuselah seemed itching to join in.
Urias then taunted his sister, "Seems all you can do is run away and taunt. You even send minions at me! Too afraid I'll mess up your face sister? Don't have enough strength to fight me?"
"I didn't need it for Onyx, I won't need it for you." Lazuli stated defiantly.
"Ha! Onyx is a weakling compared to me. Why don't you prove you're better than me yourself huh? If you really don't need better strength than me."
Lazuli smirked before circling her brother, "I have nothing to prove. I'm already Mother's favorite, so what are you? If not just a brute who's only good at bashing like a dumb troll. I'll bet even hags like old Black Annis would crush you."
"SHUT UP! You won't be Mama's favorite long if all you can do is be a blabbermouth. Mama wants warriors, not talking and doing nothing!"
Lazuli giggled at him, "You're calling her Mama. Mother doesn't like that. If anyone's out of favor it's you Urias. You're throwing a tantrum like you're Menahem's size."
Urias gave the mightiest battle cry a child his age could before charging his sister. Lazuli only giggled again before unleashing a sudden blast of psychic energy at him. Urias hit the wall so hard he wasn't moving much beyond groaning in pain.
Lilith clapped her hands, "Bravo. Very well done indeed. Though it seems you need a new opponent.", she then looked to Cedron and Hebron, "You two haven't done anything yet. So come here and be useful now."
The boys stood side by side in response as they prepared themselves. Not being nearly as confident as before. Lazuli just laughed at them, "What's wrong funny boys? Scared you'll end up like Urias the troll? Splattered against the wall like a bug."
"We're not scared. We just know what you can do Lazuli, and we respect that. I just think if we're gonna show Mother our best, you should give us a fair chance.", Cedron explained cockily.
Hebron nodded, "Yeah what Cedron said. But we should also ask Mother for ideas too. Surely she wants to see what we all can do right? So let's see how she thinks we should do it first."
Lazuli smirked and looked to her Mother eagerly for an answer. Lilith took but a moment consider the boys' offer, finding herself amused but pleased that they deferred to her. Meaning these two would be easier to control. She smiled and told the boys, "I think you're right. Though perhaps Lazuli should take a break. She's shown me so much already. You boys haven't yet, and need a proper chance on top of it."
Methuselah stepped up in response, "I've been waiting for an opportunity Mother. I go at your command."
"I see. Well then you shall have your chance as well Methuselah. But will you fight Cedron and Hebron alone? Or shall I have you partnered with Sio? To make things more..fair to your brothers?"
"But Mother...Sio is blind she'll...AAAAGH!", Methuselah began to say before Lilith grabbed his ear. Her claws tearing it a bit and drawing blood as he screamed in pain.
She then drew close, too close for Ale's comfort and whispered coyly to the boy, "Now now my son, is that any way to speak to me? Just for that, you get no choice. Your sister fights with you at my command. Am I clear?"
The boy froze in her grasp before telling her shakily, "Y-yes Mother...I w-won't question you again."
Lilith's grip only tightened more as she growled quietly this time, "I can't hear you child."
"YES MOTHER! I won't question you again!", Methuselah screamed at her in fear.
Only then did Lilith release him, and looked over at the two remaining children. Sio had just the same fearful look on her face, before being dragged to her brother's side by her now impatient Mother. Menahem glared and growled quietly at Lilith, getting a bemused snicker in response from the woman, "You will have your chance little one. For now, it's your brother and sister's turn."
Menahem about charged her before Absalom grabbed him, "At ease little one. In time you'll understand how it goes with Mother. Keep your anger in check, save it for when you need it most. She may set you up against Lazuli if you're not mindful." The toddler then glanced at Lazuli who smirked at him eagerly, frightening him. Absalom made sure to hide his reaction with his body and stared Lazuli down so she'd keep quiet. He knew she would through the suddenly fearful expression, "Good. She knows her place under me as well."
Absalom predicted Methuselah and Sio wouldn't do as well as the self-decided twins. Though he did hope they'd at least satisfy Lilith well enough. The brutality wasn't nearly as bad as Lazuli's breed of it, but it was still or terrible thing to witness. Sio was taunted with her blindness by the boys effortlessly, having no clear idea how to fight physically to begin with. Even when using magic she wasn't accurate enough to hit her much faster, and more accurate brothers. Methuselah faired only slightly better than Sio. Absalom could only guess he'd have done much better if the boy didn't focus on being protective of Sio. This allowed the twins to have more openings against him. By the end of it, Sio was bruised severely with only the occasional cut thanks to Methuselah's protection. Unfortunately he himself had taken on the brunt for his chosen role. Being full on cut and sliced alongside his own bruises. His leg was also broken, which ended his ability to continue fighting that day. Sio would've kept going despite her condition from what Absalom saw as the girl kept fighting to stay standing. Only for both brothers to use a shared cord to choke her until she nearly passed out. Lilith only stopped the fight then, seemingly out of boredom more than anything else.
Her only words for both children were, "Worthless. The both of you.", Then her attention settled on the twins, "Now you two WILL face each other next. The one who loses this fight, will fight Menahem next. He is small, so he's not yet worthy of fighting you at your best."
Menahem growled again before Absalom hushed him once more. He then watched as the brothers finally hesitated. Looking at each other in apprehension, before holding their ears shut as Lilith slid her nails across a metal pipe nearby. Absalom, Ale, and the others also held their ears at that. After the reminder of their weaker brother's fate was given to them, the twins finally separated. Cedron was the stronger twin physically, where as Hebron was the more intelligent one. The fight was more evenly matched than expected however, and lasted quite a while. Yet in the end, Hebron could only plan so far and so well. When he concocted a tactic that would've ended things at last, he hesitated on a blow that could've been fatal had he continued. Not wanting to hurt his twin brother. This gave Cedron the upper hand he needed to wrestle Hebron into a hold he couldn't escape. Hebron was only released at Lilith's request, just as bones began to crack. Hebron was given no time for rest or reprieve however as Lilith forced him to his feet.
She then looked at Absalom, "I know he's behind you, now send him over. My patience wears thin."
"Go on Menahem, just do your best for Mother. I know you are capable of beating him. All you need to do is resort to the tactics I have shown you. As well as the others your caregivers have shown you. And finally in order to protect yourself even more so, use your instincts. Even if you abhor them, your life may depend on it. Hebron may not be so keen to hold back for you as he did for Cedron. He might take his inner rage out on you. Use what you've been saving to throw it right back at him in return.", Absalom told him calmly before letting an annoyed Lilith know, "Felt he should be given a slight bit of advice before this fight, due to his size."
Lilith narrowed her eyes before dismissively yet coyly saying, "Very well, I will accept that. I was left little choice to begin with. You and I will..discuss it later Absalom. For now, we have the final fight. Ready yourselves my warriors, and we shall see if little Menahem can prove his worth, or if Hebron redeems himself of his failure. Absalom looked very much uncomfortable to Ale now. She couldn't tell whether it was because of Lilith's tone, or because of the fight to come.

Chapter 4: Growing Up Fast
Ale worked extra hard to aid in the growth of the infants. The others grew into toddlers within months, and Ale of course wanted to let them explore the world more at this time. Absalom being ever loyal however, asked Lilith about the matter. She agreed upon it, but only so that she didn't have to teach them the basics.
Lilith did give one condition though, "Ale will not teach them to walk or speak. I'll only entrust this important task to you. As their growth is becoming faster each day, I'll need to prepare for when they're big enough for training to begin."
"Of course Mother, but..when will they be 'big enough' as you say?", Absalom inquired.
"Don't worry my child, time is moving fast for them and us. They will be ready soon. Though admittedly I'm surprised the littlest one is still alive. Much more that you keep trying despite the much slower progress he's making."
Absalom stood up from his seat, "Ale has said to keep up faith in him. It's hard sure, but I have seen progress. That's good enough reason to keep trying for now."
Lilith snickered, "Ehehmhmhmhmhm. Be at ease now, I could never cause you grief."
Nodding, Absalom headed away to see how Ale was managing things. She already had Menahem out for the day and was trying to encourage him to crawl around. He was mainly interested in the Limts sniffing at him though.
Absalom nearly pulled out his axe upon seeing them before Ale raised a gentle hand, "Steady now. These Limts won't hurt him. They're just little rodents is all, besides there's no dragon crystals around for them to eat and go feral over."
"What?"
"Oh nothing. Just know Menahem is safe and fine. I've been trying to teach him to crawl, but he's been wanting to say hi to the Limts." Ale assured him.
Absalom looked down at the diminutive creatures, "Very...fluffy. Though, why are they here?"
"My kin and I make our clothes from their fur. To obtain it we keep domestic groups and sheer them when it's appropriate. Their fur grows back quickly too, so there's nothing for them to worry about in the cold climate here."
"Uhm...well...I see. May I try coaxing him to crawl?"
"Of course. Just bare in mind he's a little slow to respond. Wondering if maybe it's a sensory overload." Ale tells him.
"Well..we'll just have to work on that then."
Absalom then crouched down and tried getting Menahem's attention. Snapping his fingers when speaking didn't work much. Ale cocked her head at his impatience but let him keep trying as best he could. Eventually he waved his hand in front of Menahem's face. Finally the child looked toward his older brother curiously. After a nervous few moments Menahem finally slowly made his way to Absalom. Crawling slowly but steadily as he moved forward.
Absalom scooped him up once he finally made it to his hands, "There we are, not so hard now is it?"
Menahem only cooed in response before yawning. Absalom just shrugged and handed him to Ale. She giggled, then stood up to return Menahem to his pod to sleep. From there she worked on getting his pod and the others into tip top shape. Absalom helped where he could, having been taught to by Ale.
Once Menahem was put into his pod though, Absalom warned Ale, "Be careful how long you keep them out for. She is..watching very closely you know."
"I know, but I truly feel it's been helping. At least with Menahem anyway. I'll admit I'm a little excited about teaching him things like walking."
"Actually Ale....Lilith has asked me to handle teaching them to walk and talk. She doesn't want you involved in that process."
Ale's eyes quickly widened in shock before they settled just as fast. Ale knew Lilith already didn't like her much. Her spending all this time around the little ones likely wasn't helping things either. Whilst she could understand Lilith's reasons and that Absalom would likely do fine enough, she was still a bit upset. Her ears barely drooping as Ale fought to force them to stay perked as she gave the same smile she always had, "I see...well I'll still attend to my duties as needed. Even if I'll be missing out on an important milestone. But I understand Lilith's...concerns, and thus I shall abide by her wishes. I was commissioned after all, and as the provider of service I'd best do as was promised."
Absalom was certain she was hiding something, but couldn't be sure. He ultimately chose to speak to Llildan about it. The old rabbit only sighed heavily upon being informed of the situation. Approaching Ale later that day whilst she was caring for the Limts outside. Feeding and grooming them all for their excess fluff. She didn't trim them this time, only brushed them thoroughly.
She was on the final Limt as Llildan came up, "I warned you to not look too useful."
"And I have abided by that much. Lilith just isn't fond of me, though that is putting it lightly I'm sure."
Llildan's eyes narrowed, their red glow intensifying a slight, "I've no doubt she'll kill you one day if you keep going above and beyond as you are now."
Ale's eyes glanced his way, "I'm remaining alert."
"Not nearly enough girl. Not if she's continued to notice you and is simmering over it. I'm serious Ale, you're overdoing it. And you're really REALLY pushing your luck."
"I'll be fine. I'm aware she doesn't want me teaching them to talk or walk, probably other basics too. And I intend to follow her wishes. I just know the smallest one needs the most attention as of this time. Hence why I bring him out often, to ensure he's doing well and growing as best he can. Is that truly so wrong if I have proof it's helped him?"
"Atari I beg you please, reconsider this."
"Don't worry Ceiser, I'll be as mindful as possible. That said I still have a task at hand." Ale expressed as she let the little critter on her lap down.
Llildan sighed as she walked away, but ultimately returned to his own work at his main console inside. He tried working without worry, but overtime things became overwhelming. His hand instinctively moved for the dial on his head, but paused halfway in hesitation. The hand shook as he tried to force things, but in the end gave up. After a moment of quiet, yet heavy breathing; Llildan glanced at a hole on the console's rim. It was shaped as a crystal, and he knew for what crystal specifically. Sighing under his breath, he looked throughout the room before finding it. A plain, clear crystal with not a single chip or imperfection upon it. He held it to his chest for but a moment before seemingly reconsidering his current choice. Yet again he hesitated in placing it back down, but his heart won once more. He brought the crystal to the hole and placed it carefully within. Upon that placement, the console whirred to life before displaying a projection of his memories. This crystal in particular holding the ones of his wife, Shel and Ale as a little girl. He watched each image and passing memory silently, as what emotions he seemingly had left began flooding in. Llildan didn't know when the tears had started, but was unamused at finally noticing them. His hand once again went to his dial, stopping just short of it.
This time Llildan whispered to himself as he saw Shel's face appear in the final memory he had of her, "I often wonder moya lyubov', if perhaps she grew up too quickly...like you had to. I can only hope...that she doesn't meet the same end as you too."
With that he turned the dial a slight bit clockwise. Upon doing so, the tears that had been flowing so freely ceased just as quickly as they seemingly came. At least from Llildan's perspective on the matter. He then heard someone coming, and grabbed a towel to appear as though he was wiping sweat away instead of tears. Almost furiously rubbing them away before grabbing a bottle of vodka. He about poured himself a glass, but decided not to. Instead popping it's cork and drinking it straight. Though he did also think to turn off the crystal's projection. Just in time too, as Lilith came into the room.
"My my, there a special occasion? Or are you just in desperate need of a distraction?"
Llildan actually gave off a slight growl, "I just like it's taste, and it's hardness."
Lilith propped herself beside him against the counter, "Ah yes. The cold, chilling bite as it travels down the throat. The near pure and perfect alcoholic aftertaste after the smooth and creamy texture soothes the chill. Hitting you with a mix of flavors depending on the make and brand. Definitely among my favorite alcohols, though I've always...always felt it needed more than being drank straight."
Llildan ignored Lilith as much as possible. For with each word she began letting more of her true nature arise. The lustful, sex addicted freak of a succubus that would kill you either before, during, or after. All depending on her mood and whether or not she favored you as a 'toy'. He'd heard all the stories, he knew full well what she wanted right now. Her body language, her tone, even the blatant yet somehow still tasteful removal of things like a strap here, or her belt there. He turned the dial again, if only to ensure his emotional response was deadened enough to escape the dreaded musk. The stories of how it brought just about all men to her beck and call was enough to warrant the dial being moved again in his opinion.
He then looked at the bottle in his hand again before just putting it down a bit forcefully, "I've had enough."
"Oh? But you've only just started on the bottle. Imagine what it'll be like once you've finally drank it dry." Lilith complained with a very faint pout.
"It already is dry for me, perhaps it was too dry to begin with anyway. If you want a 'drinking' partner, go pester someone else. I've more important matters to attend to, not to mention a need for a rest."
Lilith hanged her head backward in annoyance, "Uuuugh, no wonder it tasted too dry. You're just as dry down there I'll bet."
Llildan shook his head, "Try harder Demonness, I know better than to lose my nerve so easily."
He then tightened his grip on the crystal before leaving the room in silence. Lilith just drank the bottle's remnants, of which there was plenty, in a mix of barely contained fury and sexual frustration. Growling and muttering to herself in the now darkened room.

Here it is, Ale's Lullaby. A staple of her kin, sung to children. When sung to a son, the word Atan(son) is used. For a daughter one would replace the word with Atari(daughter). Course one could use both words if more than one kid exists.
*The only thing left noting is the verse where blindness is mentioned. Ale has not been blinded yet in the fic, but eventually she will be. We just haven't written that in the redo yet. Just pointing that out to avoid confusion. :)

Darksiders: Origins
Chapter 3: Names and Heirarchy
Ale remained watchful of the infant from then on. She continued her work with the other embryos now infants themselves as well. With this one however, she felt a strong connection to. Which may have been strengthened by the infant's constant need for attention and help. Nothing Ale didn't know about infants to be sure. Yet she still felt the bond all the same. Ale noticed the infant would have trouble staying in his sleep state alongside the others. During which time, Ale would bring him back out to lull the little one back into sleep. Whilst the machine connected to the pods did provide the appropriate nutrients for them, the infant began refusing it. Absalom noticed this first and asked Ale to fix the problem. No matter what though, the child refused to take to the vines that worked as hollow tubes for his food.  Eventually Ale took another risk and started bringing him out more often. Giving the little one a bottle whilst holding him gently. Whilst this did slow his progress when compared to the other infants, there was little choice in Ale's mind. Lilith heard of each moment from Absalom naturally, leading to her jealousy manifesting more. Llildan tried his best to distract her of course, but warned Ale to not pull out the child so frequently. Ale couldn't stop in her mind, so she attempted to quell Lilith's rage against her by inquiring about names for them.
Lilith growled quietly in response before turning her head in exacerbation, "I've little time for such things. However as someone refuses to do her job as expected; it seems I've got no choice now. For now, leave the room. You will only come back when I ask for you. Absalom and I will handle the naming ourselves."
"But if the little one gets hungry he won't eat from the vines. I need to keep an eye on him if he's to make it." Ale protested.
Lilith's familiar twisted grin appeared, "I am his Mother. Therefore, I will handle it as I see fit. Be lucky I need you alive for my childrens' sake."
Ale backed down at this, but still worried herself sick over the child's fate. Llildan tried to keep her at ease, and ultimately began to regret his choice to ask for her help. Meanwhile Lilith and Absalom observed the children around them. She then gave Absalom reign over naming the males, whilst she named the females. Believing herself more qualified to name the female children. Absalom was annoyed at this, but did his task all the same. There was more girls than boys, which made sense to Absalom. He himself was male, so six girls versus five males was a perfect ratio.
He went on to the biggest ones first, "For the largest one here, Urias. The leaner one next to him shall be Methuselah."
Lilith in the meantime spotted a particularly beautiful little girl among the females. Thinking nothing of it, she took the little baby out of her pod to examine her beauty more. Just then the child opened her eyes, revealing a brilliant deep blue color. Within that deep blue, were specs of pale gold with a white limbal ring around her iris. Creating a truly stunning glow around the area. Her name was easy to think up from there, "Lazuli, no other name fits such a beauty. I can scarcely wait to see her fully grown." She then returned Lazuli to her pod with little thought to the child's cries. However it began to annoy her somewhat, so before closing the pod Lilith began her own lullaby. If one could even call it such, with how aggressive she sounded.
"Envy of the angels, beauty above demons,
hush now and return to rest in silence.
One day when you're grown and ready,
you will aid me in complete compliance.
You needn't empty those deep blue oceans,
with such wasteful tears and cries.
Such energy is better saved and used,
for a later time when our fires blaze the skies.
Envy of the angels, beauty above demons,
rest and dream of screaming demon tyrants.
One day when you're grown and ready,
your voice and battle cries should rival sirens.
Close up those deep blue gems within,
quiet down for your cries I gave no license.
some day you and the others will be ready,
and go through creation in righteous violence."
Surprisingly, the child did quiet down and sleep. Though Absalom guessed in his head that she'd likely not stay asleep long. Lilith noted his skeptical look and chided him, "Now now my child, you know what's to come. It seems there's much left to teach you yet. For now though, we have work to continue."
Absalom simply nodded, and went back to naming the rest of the boys, "Only three left, and two of them look...pretty close. Not even in the same pod and already trying to reach each other. Hmm, Cedron and Hebron will be your names then. Which leaves this tiny little thing here. You really should be bigger though, hopefully you'll catch up in time. Maybe having a name will help, so I'll think a bit harder on this one."
As Absalom did so, Lilith simply finished naming the other girls. Using their eyes to determine it as she took each child out to see them. Placing them all on a cushioned table next to each other. Like their 'sister' Lazuli, each one had gemstone like colors to their eyes. Lazuli was just the only one 'blessed' with more than one color in her eyes.
Lilith sighed at this, "Disappointing, but at least my new favorite daughter can be another leader. All in due time as some might say. Now then let us see..."
She observed the eyes of each girl vigorously. The first one in line from the left had eyes of jade in color, and seemed normal enough to Lilith. This one Lilith named Jadeite, as Jade would be too obvious she thought. That and jadeite was a category of the light green jade anyway; which Lilith felt was accurate to this child. The second one next to her ended up having rose quartz colored eyes, but acted off. Lilith noticed how she seemed to not see when she waved her hand above the little one's head. Lilith could only assume from there that this was blindness, and clicked her tongue in annoyance. The child reacted to it though, and reached out towards her general direction. Lilith glanced around her and toward a thinking Absalom before clicking a few more times in a rhythm. She grinned again as the child finally seemed to figure out where she was. Lilith thus rewarded her with being held a bit longer and chose her name as being Sio. Which was similar to the chemical formula of Rose Quartz, SiO₂. Lilith did do enough tinkering with science to know this much at least. The third girl had black eyes with barely any glow to them at all. What hair she currently had matched her eyes with the same dullness. Lilith barely acknowledged this one from there, but did remember to name her. Thus the child was swiftly named Onyx with little thought put in at all. The fourth child had white opalescent eyes, and a surprisingly lively attitude. That part annoyed Lilith a tad, so she didn't think much else of her. At least the child had lovely eyes, and would hopefully be more beautiful later on as well. Lilith named this one Opal and moved on from there. Finally there was the final 'daughter' to name. Her eyes were completely pale gold, alongside her small bits of hair. Despite reminding her of Onyx, at least she had some glowing going on. This pleased Lilith enough to at least indulge the child's neediness. Tickling the little one with a manicured, yet still clawed finger. While doing so, she named her Pyrite as her eyes and hair weren't a true gold. Lilith then returned everyone to their pods, and left Absalom to name the final male child.
Absalom finally indeed chose a name to the runt of children. Scooping him up once he's sure Lilith isn't watching, "Menahem, this shall be your name."
As he kept holding Menahem, Ale surprised him, "Absalom."
"Hrah! Oh it's you Ale. I've just named him, the runt I mean."
"He won't stay a runt, not if I have a say in it. Though I'd like to hear the name you've picked out." Ale expressed to him.
"His name is Menahem."
Ale smiled warmly, "You know, I think it sounds good for him."
Absalom then handed Menahem off to Ale, knowing she could get him back to sleep easily enough. Naturally she sang her lullaby as per usual to him,
"Mi Atan les daw aud bea a pere,

Darksiders: Origins
Chapter 2: A little Faith
Ale's task turned out to be simple enough. Tending to the garden of pods as one would for any plant life. Llildan's machine made watering them, and giving other nutrients far faster. Ale still had to collect the water, nutrients, extra soil, and more of course. Luckily it didn't matter to her in the end. What did matter to her, was watching her Father get increasingly uncomfortable and angry around Lilith. Llildan would shut down any attempts on him, but was also trying his best to keep her away from Ale as well. Even going as far as to tell Ale not to appear too useful during her work. Llildan for his part made himself look inconvenient. Which was easy when he could program the technology to look extremely complicated, while in reality he knew his tech no matter how it seemed. Aside from the nuisance Lilith was proving to be, Ale had her own watchful eyes. Absalom would occasionally look over her shoulder in minor curiosity. A bit skeptical as to how all this gardening was meant to get what Lilith wanted. Aside from gardening however, Ale had to place the embryos in the pods herself. Once done she also had to watch and record their progress. From growth rate, to any abilities that may manifest. Course Absalom didn't seem to be around for those tasks. Ale would soon get her chance to prove herself however. One day she came across a pod suffering from a rot problem. Upon realizing it had gone as far as inside the pod with the now infant, she knew they had to be examined outside of it.
Absalom was nervous about it though, "Is this truly necessary?"
"We have little choice I'm afraid. I have to be sure the rot hasn't reached the little one. It's already on the inside of the pod. So it's already too close for comfort."
"Are you sure it's rot though? I've seen it before on a few dead demons in my Mother's home. They didn't look this way while rotting."
Ale tilted her head a small bit with a warm smile, "Yes I suppose rotting plantlife would look strange. Especially to one who's only seen it on people. Plants and people don't exactly rot the same way, if anything plants wither faster. Unless it's something truly massive, like a tree for instance. A dead tree can stand tall for several more years before its trunk rots enough to topple over. The pods are made up of massive leaves, thus they will rot in a similar fashion. Have you seen rotted leaves before?"
Absalom shrugged, "Cannot say I have, no."
Ale then picked a single small leaf from another pod. And after reassuring Absalom no harm would be done to the other pod at all over one leaf, held it up for him to see. Absalom watched almost eagerly as Ale demonstrated how leaves rotted using magic to achieve the effect at a faster rate.
Ale for her part ensured she explained each step, "Leaves you see, fall once Autumn arrives. As it is the plants' ways of preparing for Winter. They start off the same color of green as always, and they are green due to cells inside them that are colored green and thus green light passes through it for our eyes to pick up on."
"The leaf is simply green to you?" Absalom asked confused.
"Yes, it is. Why?"
"My eyes see many shades of green in that leaf. I don't know how to explain it, but I've always been able to see more colors than anyone else. Mother was the first to notice and pointed it out to me when she did."
Ale's eyes widened, "Really? Hmm, I think there's a term for it. I don't recall it, but if you inform my Father he could tell you more, no doubt. Shall I continue on? Green is but the first color of leaves in this cycle."
"Yes of course, pardon my interruption."
"No need to worry, I can appreciate a curious mind. Asking questions after all is how we learn isn't it?" Ale replied with another smile.
"A...fair point, a-actually."
Ale nodded before continuing the explanation, "Now watch closely for this next part. Once the leaf hits the ground, decomposition begins. As the cells in the leaf all die, the color changes, and that next color comes after green fades completely without the cells to give that color. Sometimes it becomes yellow, sometimes orange. That part depends on the plant itself, and the natural colors of their leaves."
"So yellow and orange are the natural colors of leaves? The cells in them just hide them?" Absalom inquires extremely confused.
"They do, so when the cells die, the true colors are free to show themselves. The next color is red; which I don't have much to say on, beyond that it is red, and the second to last color in the cycle."
Absalom squints a bit at this, "Well again, I see more shades of each color. What looks like it's a single color to you, looks covered in many different shades of it for me. If anything, it's like staring at many gemstones in a chest."
"Hmm, well you're pretty insightful for a warrior. Then again you'd think I'd know not to judge them. Given my Mother was one herself." Ale revealed.
"Really? What was she like?"
Ale raised her hand gently, "Unfortunately I was very young when she died. Thus my memories are few, especially of her battles. As I wasn't allowed on them at that age. Though again, my Father would know more. That subject pains him deeply however, it's why he's become what he is now. Wouldn't recommend asking him about her."
"Shame, I actually wouldn't mind hearing of her. Given how you turned out..uh no offense."
"None taken. Ready for the last color? Or shades I guess?"
"I am."
Ale then looked to the leaf a final time as it turned dark brown. The luster and bravado of the previous colors being replaced with a dryness Absalom definitely recognized as Ale spoke, "This is what a dead leaf looks like. With that the cycle completes itself, and the trees and other plants will regrow and replace their lost leaves come Spring."
Absalom couldn't help feeling mildly disturbed at the leaf disintegrating once she finished. Though he'd seen much worse in Lilith's home to be sure. Cautiously he asked Ale, "Is that what's happening to the pod as well?"
"Yes, hence why I must get the infant out." Ale informed him.
Absalom glanced at the pod, and indeed saw the same dull brown shades on it's side. He then looked inside, and saw much the same. Course what he didn't mention, was that he could see the heat coming off of it as well. Due to the side of the pod rotting away slowly. He could see it because his eyes also had infrared vision. But this part was more random, as he was the first of Lilith's 'children' after all. There was bound to be some kinks, like Absalom not having perfect control of what vision he viewed the world in yet. Realizing what was happening regardless, he hurried off to find Lilith and tell her what had to be done. Ale thusly waited patiently for them both to arrive, despite her ever growing concerns with each passing moment. Lilith wasn't entirely keen on the idea despite Absalom telling her what they needed to do.
She felt she knew best, and thus went to prove as much, "You have magic specific to nature do you not?"
"I do, but it's nothing that can reverse rot. I'll need to call in a friend for that. Regardless, this child must be taken outside the pod. For their own safety.", Ale insisted.
"What of your Father? Does he not have the technology to examine the infant whilst it stays inside?"
Ale only shook her head, "He cannot, the pod is highly resistant to x-rays. Even if one x-ray won't hurt anyone, the pod doesn't notice that. All it knows is harmful rays are directed at its charge, thus it will prevent the x-rays from looking through it. I cannot control whether they do this or not either."
Lilith growled a slight bit in her growing anger before finally telling Ale in a sudden, dangerous sounding calm, "Very well, if we TRULY must do this, then you may. But know this little rabbit..if anything goes wrong afterward, it will be on your head."
With that Lilith finally backed off, but asked Absalom to watch her closely. He did so keenly as Ale carefully allowed the pod to open up. Absalom felt a twinge of fear at seeing the grey skinned infant within. Ale however carefully lifted the infant from the pod, wrapping it within a swaddle for the time being. Ale then handed it off to Absalom to watch over as she used her communication crystal to call up that friend. The clear crystal glowed gently and pulsated before the glow steadied out. Once it did, Absalom heard another female voice.
"Hello Ale."
Ale smiled at the reply, "Hello Aspen, so have you been told by my clan...?"
"I was yes, and I do not like it one bit. I hope you know what you're doing Ale. That woman is FAR from trustworthy."
Ale glanced at Absalom nervously before telling Aspen, "I know your opinions but keep them in for now. I'm being watched right now. I just need your help with something. Even just teaching me a spell will do."
Both beings heard her sigh deeply before she inquired as gently as she could muster, "What is it then Ale?"
"One of the pods I'm tending to has a rot problem. I need your advice on how to fix it completely."
Aspen thought to herself for a moment before saying, "I can send you moonfruit seeds. These can reverse rot when grown over decayed or decaying plants. And given the nature of your task, it should be beneficial to each of the...'children'. I do this for your sake Ale, just please...be mindful around Lilith. I mean it."
"Of course Aspen, and thank you so much. I'll keep in touch if it helps ease you."
"It very well may, but don't do so in front of her. That would likely...prove regrettable to us both. Farewell my friend."
"Good day Aspen."
Ale recieved the seeds within minutes of the call's end. From there she planted each one and as Aspen promised they reversed the rot. Ale then took the time to examine the little infant. Both her and Absalom share a sigh of relief as the infant showed life. Giving Ale the peace of mind to return the infant back into the pod.
Absalom then left to inform Lilith of the resolution, and told Ale, "You have my thanks, but be more vigilant. This could've been worse."
"Believe me I know, but for now let's be glad he was safe in the end. And that they will all be safe from potential future rot."
"He?"
"Yes, he. I noticed the infant was male during my examination.", Ale explained simply.
Absalom nodded at this before going to Lilith. She was pleased to know things were still going fine, "Excellent. What of the infant?"
"As I said Mother, he is well. He is grey skinned now, but very much healthy from what Ale stated."
"Oh? Hmm...feel free to keep trying on it with her if you so wish. But I shall....reserve my faith in the child. The grey skin may mean something else. Only time will tell."
Absalom was slightly stung by Lilith's coldness, but brushed it off all the same. After all Lilith was like this most days with most things. Even he recieved this treatment from time to time. He was practically used to recieving it now. But for her to show this to a Firstborn as an infant was quite telling to him. Regardless, he held out a cautious faith for the infant's continued growth. Intent on letting him keep fighting to survive with Ale's help.

Darksiders: Origins
Chapter 1: How Things Start
Ale had begun things as always that day. Doing her work as Elder of her clan around their village. By midday however, the woods around her sang within her mind. Informing her of a coming visitor, who upon hearing the name of him Ale was quite apprehensive. Nevertheless she went on to greet the man who would be making his arrival. He stuck out against the natural beauty around him, clanking softly with his gait. He was already tall to begin with, his mechanical enhancements made him taller still. One rabbit ear was chopped in half, and barely twitched as the other remained intact. The intact ear twitched far better, but still held a sort of semiring around it. A small crystal on the ring's end was centered at his ear canal, which Ale recognized as his way of communicating long distance when away from his own clan. The rest of his body held a thin balance of his organic body and the mechanical 'enhancements' to it. The most well known of those, being his red eyes. They had originally been a different color, but Ale couldn't recall it anymore. They were red as currants, whilst any time his 'pupils' dilated or constricted they appeared like the apeture of a camera. Which very few races in creation had truly mastered by this time in history.
In this way and more, Llildan was a true reflection of his clan and ideals. He believed in achieving progress to become the best of one's self was the best path in life. His expansion however, was coming at the cost of his sanity. He even had a dial on the right side of his head that would switch off some of his emotions. Which he only did when in battle to make it easier on his psyche supposedly. So for now it was switched on, and he could feel some semblance of emotion. At least that's how it always seemed to Ale. Llildan could tell that much as he gazed upon his daughter. Her white kinked hair was worn down as she preferred it. Reminding him of her Mother in the moment. Her clothing was also made from natural material, from Limt fur gained from Limts Ale would shear during summer months. Ale also differed from her Father in ideals. Being a pacifist in nature, Ale always believed in trying to find peaceful resolutions first. That violence shouldn't be a first choice, and thus always the last resort. But most of all she didn't believe in her Father's choice to attach a dial to his brain and head that could turn off his emotions. As Ale always believed very deeply that emotions were something to let out when needed and not to keep bottled up or caged in. These conflicting ideologies often caused the two to come to arguments at times, and there certainly was a tension in this moment.
One could feel it easily between both scrutinizing gazes, though both just as quickly softened after a moment.
"Ceiser.", Ale greeted him.
Llildan nodded simply, "Atari."
Cocking her head Ale inquired, "I'm assuming this isn't a social call? Due to our past encounters and such."
"I'm afraid you're right..", Llildan sighed before continuing, "I've been commissioned by a being that I'm....less than thrilled to work with. But what she offers is...useful to me. More so than you may think."
Ale's head cocked the other way, "And that is what exactly?"
"Access to Arkaddian technology. They're among the most advanced in such things, if not THE most advanced. Their work could benefit the clan, our research, my advancements, and more."
"What is the price then? Who is it that you choose to work with despite not being keen without such bribery?" Ale chided.
"Lilith, the Mother of Monsters herself."
Ale froze a moment at Llildan's serious tone, and quietly gasped at the name he told her, "Ceiser....are you sure..that this is wise? Why would you..even consider it? What if she's just using you? She's known for such things."
Llildan raised his hand dismissively, "Yes I know, you needn't remind me girl. I am fully aware she may go back on her bargain, but I found a possible way to ensure she can't. Regardless I will work with her as commissioned to, and thus you will not be dealing with her much. If at all."
Ale's eyes widened, "You've told her I'd help you with whatever she wants?"
"No. What I told her, was that it was possible, yet unlikely given how strained things are between us. I'll not force your hand in this, due to the risks involved. I will say this however, she wants quick, efficient results. Through your magic, and the healing biopods the forest grants you with, we could make things go much more smoothly. The sooner it finishes, the sooner she's out of our hair after all. Am I not correct?"
Sighing Ale responded after some thought, "Very well Ceiser. Just know I do this NOT for that twisted Demonness, but because despite all our troubles you are still my Father. Losing Mother was hard enough, helping you now may prevent the same happening to you next."
Llildan nods before letting her return home for a time. So that she may sort out her affairs and leave someone in charge in her stead. But leaving herself open to being asked for anything her clan may need. Llildan handled things with his clan similarly, so he wouldn't judge or criticize this choice. Instead he waited patiently on his daughter. Once she was finally ready, the two used a teleportation spell to return to Llildan's clan territory in the Fae Realm's version of what would become Russia for humanity so many eons later. At this time however, Llildan led Ale further on to his home. Which was now a mix of the natural mountains and metals of various kinds humming with tech. Ale could even compare it to High Elven architecture in places. Even she could admit it was a beautiful if delicate balance of the two, though she wasn't in the mood to do so aloud. Instead she continued on after her Father in silence. That is until 'she' greeted the two.
A sultry, tempting voice rose up from the silence, "Welcome back Grand Elder Llildan."
Ale watched as the Demonness stepped forward. Lilith could only be described as the very concept of Lust given form, then twisted together with doses of the femme fatale and survivor archetypes respectively. Her mere presence alone would intimidate and turn on the Drow Elves' queen in Ale's eyes. Her voice and choice of words held a tender yet terrifying mix of authority and eroticism. Her body language captivated and enticed all who viewed her with deadly efficiency. Ale was suddenly caught off guard by Lilith being right in front of her.
Jolted from her thoughts with one sentence alone, "Oh my, she really is a spitting image of her Mother isn't she? Seems shorter than her though."
"You are inaccurate in that. Her Mother while taller was...closer to Ale's height than you may think. I just make....made it easy to miss with my own height." Llildan replied, forcing back the pain that rose up from mentioning his wife. As well as stepping between Ale and Lilith. Like her, Llildan wasn't keen on losing another family member.
"Oh? Ohohoho....well my mistake then." Lilith said as her hand, which had cupped Ale's chin a bit, slid away. Ale couldn't quite explain it, but the lingering feeling of longing washed over her as Lilith released her. Though it quickly passed as she witnessed the Demonness approach her Father next, "And it seems you are right...about your height hiding your wife and daughter's I mean."
Llildan grabbed the wrist of the hand attempting to touch him. His own hand forming a vice grip that he tenced in silence as he stared her down. The clearest of warnings he'd be giving the Demonness. Lilith chuckled before apologizing, giving Llildan reason enough to release her wrist. From there he told her, "If you're quite finished with...THAT..we have work to do yes?"
Lilith sighed in mild annoyance, "Well you're no fun. No matter though, I've plenty of toys waiting for me at home. In regards to our business, we need a private room. One that only the four of us can and should enter."
"Four of us?", Ale questioned with yet another slight head cock.
Lilith turned around a bit more annoyed before suddenly calming in realization, "Oh yes, that's right. You've not met him yet, the fruit of my recent labors. Which I intend to duplicate with your help. Absalom!"
Ale glanced towards a door that then opened, revealing a truly large man. As tall as Llildan was with enhancements added on, but far larger than him in terms of sheer mass. His body may as well have been pure muscle, though he clearly some fat to him as well. Just enough to still be fit, but it was in fact there. He lumbered towards Llildan and Ale slowly, and with authority to rival Lilith's own. A gruff, commanding voice came from his lips, "So, this small rabbit is the 'extra help' you mentioned?"
"She is needed my child, and therefore I expect you to show some kind of respect. Am I clear?" Lilith ordered him.
"Transparently, Mother. I shall hold my tongue, for now."
Llildan then ushered everyone to another room in silence, this time a more annoyed variant of it. Lilith went around it in seemingly pure bliss, clearly enjoying the space. Though she did briefly grimace at the structure in the middle, "Though this could've been...thinner I guess?"
"It is what the pods shall be connected to. Your...'children' will be grown in them, and this structure is necessary to that goal. I assure you of that much Lilith.", Llildan told her in his annoyance, however minor it was.
Lilith glanced his way with little care, "Oh is that so? Well then pardon me. I'll be more..considerate of your knowledge about the technology you possess. Just know you may find the Arkaddian technology I have to be more...convenient. In more ways than one at that."
With all said and done, Llildan pushed a button that revealed sliding doors in the floor that opened up. Each one leading to a patch of dirt as big as each door, and being deep enough to accommodate for the roots of each pod. Upon receiving a nod from her Father, Ale began planting the seeds of each pod into the patches. Llildan then started up his machine as Ale used her magic to get each pod to grow quickly. Once they were the size of the average person Ale stopped, but Lilith insisted she continue longer. Looking to her Father briefly, she received another nod and thus continued. Only when Lilith asked for her to stop did she do so. These were the longest, and biggest pods Ale had ever grown. Ale could barely make out Lilith's reasoning behind needing their exaggerated size. Luckily Llildan explained it once he had her laying down. In short, Lilith intended for each 'child' to grow into adulthood. However, she wanted them as 'unimpeded' as possible. Having stressed that vehemently to Llildan earlier on in their correspondence up to this point. Ale was to be the pods' caretaker, as she did grow the pods. Thus by proxy, she was to care for the 'children'. A sort of midwife type job as Lilith apparently put it. Ale agreed to the task, but reminded Llildan of her reason for aiding him with Lilith's machinations at all. He understood of course, and finally let her rest before continuing his own part of the task. Maintaining the machinical components of this whole thing.
