best part about having a boyfriend with a 3D printer is that if I want something like cookie cutters or a yarn ring for knitting, he can whip one up in no time

I wasn’t expecting to face reveal so soon but I recently stumbled on some information that I feel all knitters and crocheters need to know! This video is from my TikTok but I thought I’d crosspost as I know Tumblr has a large community of hand crafters.
Hobbycraft is a UK craft store brand (trusted, don’t worry!) and they have HUNDREDS of free patterns for knitters and crocheters. I believe they can be use worldwide too - I don’t think this is UK exclusive.
Crafting should be accessible to all, no matter your financial situation so if you’re like me and need cheap or free options for patterns, Hobbycraft can help!

Knitting needles, a small sewing kit, a tote bag with some political slogan, SPECIFICALLY MS chocolate milk (Icelandic stuff) and a block of Cathedral City extra mature cheese
If you were a spirit, what 5 items would be required to summon you?
Question stolen from @serpentandthreads because it was fun.

Per my last reblog, I'm gunna rant about shadow work for a second. Not about Runa's post, because I think her post is very helpful <3
I truly loathe the push that deep shadow work gets from some people in the magical community, especially those who push it onto people who are very new or those who say that your magic is somehow lesser if you don't do shadow work.
I have watched my friends get re-traumatized by bullshit shadow work prompts that had no place in their practice but were pushed onto them by "more experienced" practitioners. These prompts triggered repressed memories for them and fucked with their heads. Especially young folks in magic, they don't know better right off the bat that you don't have to do what other witches do in order to succeed in magic.
I have personally broken down due to the pressure of feeling like I had to do shadow work but knowing full well that I am not mentally prepared to do the deeper shit.
Digging into repressed memories without the proper knowledge of how to handle them can re-traumatize you by forcing you to relive traumatic events and ultimately has no purpose other than to fuck you up. You don't need to suffer through your trauma a hundred times over to heal, you've already suffered enough.
You do not need to sacrifice your mental state for magic.
You do not need to do shadow work to be a witch or to be successful in magic.
Your witchcraft or your magic does not need to link to your psychological health at all if you don't want it to.
And if it's possible, go to a therapist! Therapy is a great tool for healing!!!

oh btw just in case nobody ever told you. just because your life looks different than you thought it would doesn't mean that your life is bad or wrong or disappointing or less than. sometimes things aren't good or bad. sometimes they're just different

a lot of folks mourn that witchblr isn't as active, and that's a fair thing to complain about, I think. a lot of stuff is reblogs and the same info being regurgitated, a lot of blogs feel they have to teach.
I think if we want to fix this, though, we need to be kinder to beginners. We need to defend them when someone comes in and picks apart every little thing they do. We need to not have lofty standards and to defend the fact that everyone practices differently!
maybe I've been unlucky, but I've seen a lot of folks try to post original witchy content and get attacked over it. Which is fine if it's purposeful* appropriation or the like, but if a christian witch is posting about using the bible in their magic, it shouldn't be acceptable for a pagan to berate them for that. This just ends up in the original content getting taken down and the blog going quiet.
I'm not good about this by any means. I get anxious about being attacked for not having a perfectly-formed practice I can easily explain. But if we want a lively witchblr, we need to look out for each other and maybe not try to force ourselves to be teaching blogs.
*edit, my wording wasn't great in the first post smh

Having ADHD, depression and ✨some other alphabet diagnoses✨ whilst being a content creator SUCKS.
I will never sit here and say "oh woe be me, content creation is SO HARD! My life is SO DIFFICULT! *fans self dramatically*" because I've worked in healthcare and content creation really ain't that hard.
BUT
The way I am, I put pressure on myself to create and having aforementioned mental illnesses can make that hard so when I'm low, I don't create but because I'm low, I beat myself up more.
I also can't STAND how mean people can be online. I try to make uncontroversial videos and stay out of drama but my TikTok has only got to land on the wrong FYPs and my appearance is being picked apart for days.
I'm trying to get more organised and post more because I truly love making content but wow do I not want to have the negative stuff

Really don’t want to leave home in the UK and go back home to Iceland (confusing I know)
But on the plus side, going back means it’s 2 weeks until we move into my boyfriend’s apartment and I get my own space to bake and craft

Basil Lime Sugar Cookies
This is another recipe for kitchen magic. Basil is super helpful with just about anything- protection, health, joy etc. Mixed with lime I would say these cookies are good for a pick me up and can be charged to be a mood booster.
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of butter (softened)
1 1/2 tsp lime juice (to taste tbh)
1 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
1 3/4 cup of all purpose flour
1 egg
3/4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
Fresh finely chopped basil (I used like 10 leaves)
1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F
Beat together butter and sugar until combined
In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder and salt
To the butter/sugar mixture add egg, lime juice, vanilla extract, basil and salt. Mix
Slowly add dry mixture to the wet mixture and mix until combined. Dough should not be sticky to the touch
Line cookie sheets with parchment paper
My cookies did not spread out too much so you can place them relatively close on the tray. Just roll into a ball and place them wherever (May differ for yours so calculate your own risks)
Bake for 15-17 minutes until slight golden color at the bottoms. The cookie itself should stay pretty light so look for cracks along the top.
Let cookies rest on baking tray for two minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Additional Notes:
With any kind of kitchen magic it is what you make it. I charged all of my ingredients before baking and while mixing thought of the intentions I wanted behind them. They were quite literally made with love.
Merry Yuletide Loves!

Uncle Alabaster's Chicken Dumplings
For @doodle-mochi who is sicky, and who I am unable to cook for cause they're so far away!
INGREDIENTS
Boxed Chicken Broth x4 (We are cooking for left overs)
1 lbs of chicken (bone in or boneless, skin on or skinless) [healing, strength]
Salt to taste [cleansing & purification]
Pepper to taste [banishing, cleansing and purification]
Carrots [grounding]
Celery [grounding, peace]
Scallions (or onion powder) [endurance, healing, prosperity]
Garlic to taste (cloves, minced, dried, or powdered) [banishing, cleansing & purification, healing, prosperity]
Canned Biscuits
INSTRUCTIONS
In a stock pot pour your chicken broth and let it begin to boil. Add salt, pepper, and garlic, then add your chicken.
Once the chicken has fully cooked remove it from the broth and cut it into bite sized pieces before adding it back in.
Add your carrots, celery, and scallions. If they are fresh give them time to boil and soften. Now is also the time to taste test your broth to make sure it is seasoned to your liking.
Once your veggies are nearly soft open your biscuits and begin breaking them and rolling them into little marble sized pieces. Begin adding them to the pot. Place lid on pot and return occasionally to stir the dumplings into the soup. After 15-25 minutes your dumplings should be cooked sufficiently!
Ladle into bowl and enjoy!
Happy Eating!
