Okay so Klaus definitely became a ghost story

Like, you’re in Vietnam, and it’s already super weird, and nobody wants to be here, so you don’t immediately notice this pale skinny guy who starts hanging around with Dave.  If anyone asks, you’re not sure when he shipped in, or who he came in with, or where he was before

like, he was probably drafted?  he definitely isn’t excited to be here, not that anyone is, but also it seems like he skipped basic training because he has pretty much no idea what he’s doing

Does he even have a serial number?  He doesn’t have dog tags.  Did he lose them or something?  He’s not on any of the official duty rosters or anything, either

He talks to people who aren’t there, which is pretty normal, everyone has their own coping methods, whatever, except sometimes he knows things that he couldn’t possibly have learned, like where Johnny hid his stash before he got killed, or what you told Charlie ten months ago, before he ever showed up, even though you know he and Charlie never met.  He always knows when people are dead, long before the reports come in

And then one day he just? vanishes?  As mysteriously as he arrived?  He’s just gone now?  And he’s in pictures and stuff but there’s no official record and according to the brass he never existed

(and then decades later in the wake of vanya’s book you see some “where are they now” retrospective with pics of all the Umbrella kids as adults and what the actual- )
