would it be possible to join some kind of discord server related to the series? It's been way too long since I read TUC to contribute something meaningful/lore accurate .. but I still want to interact with this project
The project discord is going to be limited to the contributors as it will be the main source of communication between everyone involved in the project.
However, there are discord servers dedicated to TuC! This is one that a few of our mods are part of. We'd love to have you join in there :
If you change your mind about joining the zine, please apply. We'd love to get you caught up to speed and part of a team of contributors.

YESSSSS I'm so glad I found this before the artist application deadline! I just submitted mine! I'm so excited for this zine, even if I don't end up chosen as an artist!
Question! Is there/are you going to make a Discord server for the project?
@rainbow-squirrels-7
We're glad to have you join the quest! Yes, we do have a discord already set up and the mods have been busy working on making it a fun hub for creation.
We will be sending out info on how to get into the discord to contributors on November 20th by email! (or messenger bat, whichever is faster).
Thanks for the question!

Hello!! I'm interested in being a writer but I'm curious, what is the expected word count for contributions? Is there a minimum/maximum length you have in mind?
@blanketed-in-stars
That's a great question! We aren't too limited with word count, since the zine will be digital. We would like our writers to aim for around 3-10k, but that's only a ballpark. If you are comfortable writing/editing more than that in the scheduled time, that's fine. We just don't want people to bite off more than they can chew and have an unfinished piece by the deadline.
As far as minimum, we aren't too worried there either. Some of our applicants have indicated that they'd be interested in writing poetry or a prophecy, so we understand that those may not be as long as prose.
For this first zine we are going to stay very flexible with what people are wanting to contribute and support them in any way we can. In the future if we look into printing/selling, we may have to limit or be selective, but for now we're enjoying the freedom.
Thanks for the question!

Applications are due THIS WEEKEND! Please consider joining us- we still have plenty of space available and are really excited to have as many contributors as possible.
For those that have not contributed to a zine before, it's as easy as making fanart/fiction with a bit of extra communication. It's simple and fun and you'll get to meet a ton of great people who like the same things as you do!
We'd be happy to talk if you have any questions!

Thank you to everyone who filled out the interest check or mod application. We so appreciate the feedback and are excited to see that there is a near even amount of people wanting to contribute writing vs art, which should give us an even number of teams.
The mod application emails have been sent out, so if you applied, make sure you are checking your email (and spam folders!)
If you applied and haven't heard from us ([email protected]), please message us and we'll see where that pesky messenger bat went.
The next leg of our quest is getting the contributor applications perfected and ready for Oct 13th! Keep an eye on the horizon for bats with more news on that soon.
Run like the River,

Some of the feedback we've gotten shows us that there are some people who are new to the world of zines. Welcome! Let's go over a few basic definitions for the words we've been throwing around.
---------
Zine: The term was first used in the 1940s. Short for magazine or fanzine. Usually small-batch & self-published work for a variety of purposes. Zines have a long history in lgbtqia+, art, activism & fandom spaces.
This zine will be digital and distributed in PDF format, meaning that we can keep any printing/shipping costs at an absolute zero.
---------
Mod: Short for moderator. This is basically a team captain and someone who will work as part of the leadership group for the zine. They will make sure the contributors are turning in their project updates on time, helping to keep everything organized, promoting the zine and working to make everything successful.
---------
Contributor: Someone who is creating work for the zine. Artists, Writers, Betas, Merch Artists etc.
---------
Interest Check: a google form that we'll open to try and capture the scope of the project. How many people are wanting to contribute and what type of media were they wanting to create. This will help us understand the amount of work to plan for and help us set up our word count limits etc.
---------
Send us a message if you've got any questions!
Fly you High :)

me again with more questions !! who is the most morally grey character in the series
Might not be the hot take that people want, but I always saw Vikus as morally grey. I think it might just be my religious trauma lens, but it didn’t sit well with me how he was so calmly accepting of the fact that he was sending children to their uncertain doom all because his god (Sandwich) told him it was inevitable.
However, I don’t think he was morally grey on purpose (as in pretending to be nice and good, then intentionally manipulating people left and right- looking at you, Dumbledore). He was led astray by his religion and (like many hyper religious people) he allowed many horrible things to occur in the name of “the righteous path”.

Hi there! First off: this looks super cool and I’m very excited to follow the progress on it! I’m a mod in the bigger of the two TUC Discord servers (the two that I know of anyway?) and wanted to invite y’all to advertise there! I can send an invite link or pass a message on, whichever is your preference!
I’m also wondering roughly what you expect the workload/time commitment to be for mods. I’ve done some organization for fandom events in the past, but I’ve never worked on a zine. I think I’d likely be a good fit for the social media mod position, I use Canva ALL THE TIME and I’ve done some graphic design coursework in the past, but I have a full time job and I know I’ll be mostly unavailable for 2 weeks in October, so I want to have an idea of what I’m getting into before I apply for the position. Totally okay if the answer is “there’ll be more info when mod applications open”, I’ve just been thinking about this all morning.
🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for reaching out! We’re excited too, especially seeing the interest in a little over 24 hours. We are still in our planning phase, so things may change but I can give you an estimate.
I have been an intern mod and an assistant art mod for a couple of other zines. I have a fairly extensive checklist planned out with which mod tasks are assigned to, with their due dates. Some dates are very set in stone (heh) but some are flexible. If there’s a busier time of year for you, all you would need to do is communicate that with the team so someone can take over your role for a bit while you’re busy. That’s honestly the lovely part about modding for this kind of project, since there’s a timeline and a set end date. As far as expected amount of time per week, I think it may depend on the person and their availability. It will also depend on the number of contributors. For instance one of the Social Media Mod’s roles is to compile contributor bios and get those ready to post. If we have 5 contributors, it’s going to take a significant less amount of time than if we have 40. For the bigger zines, I think the expected hours/week is 5-10. Since this is a smaller first-time zine without the difficulties of navigating publishing, I am estimating a commitment of way less than 5 hours/week.
We are also very flexible as far as picking up tasks that aren’t technically under the Writer and Art mod heading. We were originally going to do all the modding ourselves, but we figured we could delegate if others wanted mod experience. We would LOVE to join the discord- I had no idea there even were any. If you don’t mind messaging or commenting a link, we’d be happy to be a part of that community. Thanks again for your question- you made us think :)
