Controversial tranny take time. So there's this phenomenon of TME people like mythologizing their own genders as more inherently complex and nuanced than trans women who they say have "binary privilege." Many tgirls on here have pushed back on this by rightfully pointing out how any expression of nonbinary identity is punished among trans women very harshly by revoking our status as women even among other queers and that we are not afforded the same room to express such "nuance" in our genders. This is very true and should be stated, but in combating this condescending attitude from TME people, I think its only a half measure. Instead I think we should recognize the fact that even the most basic bitch of a tgirl—those girls who's only goal is to look like their mother and who's only measure of success in transition is cuntiness—has an infinitely more nuanced understanding of the gender binary and her place within it (or rather, her exclusion from it) and more complexity in her gender presentation than any "my gender is fagdyke/butch/inanimate object" TME person accusing her of "binary privilege" could ever have simply because of the fact that she is subjected to and expected to navigate transmisogyny

i hadn’t looked too hard into the michfest thing, but i’m just now doing my research and reflecting on alison bechdel’s relation w trans people and she honestly strikes me as a massive coward 😭. wrote a comic critizing michfest for its transphobic policies, continued to go. said some vaguely trans positive things in interviews and some comics, does some base level trans activism these days, but doesn’t seem to have done any deep dive on her own transmisogyny. i guess, and i’m asking this genuinely, is terf an accurate word for her if she’s just a fucking coward? is terf a good word for someone who reposted something supporting trans youth just a couple months ago? like (today) she’s more supportive of trans people than the average person but the bar is fucking on the floor. trying to figure out this things for myself cause idk if there’s an easy answer. but yeah michfest was fucking awful i can’t believe i didn’t know more about it sooner. thanks for having generally good opinions and sorry people are harassing you

people have let the idea of the word terf simmer down into like, Only Completely Rabid Crazy Bigots Who Are Totally Blatant About It, like JK Rowling etc.

the truth is, the word terf was literally coined to describe the people who attended Michfest specifically. that is literally what it was meant to describe, always. i don't think it's cowardice for Bechdel to play nice with a bunch of transmisogynists and terfs, not at all -- what is she afraid of? the consensus is totally behind her and her ilk. she doesn't challenge it because even though she thinks that trans people deserve to be treated politely/kindly, she does not value trans women's perspectives as women and sees us to be male socialised. you can support trans youth, read trans books, promote trans artists all you want, if you believe terf rhetoric you are a terf.

I think book 4 of the Masquerade series will be titled The Butcher Baru Cormorant. Here is my reasoning:

Every book title so far follows the same format of a name with strongly negative connotations: Traitor, Monster, Tyrant

“Butcher” in politics and history usually connotes excessive and shocking violence. However, book 3 uses it differently, in the question “How do you butcher an empire?” Meaning, how do you render it down into usable component parts? That is, how do you destroy an unjust system and use the pieces to nourish something better, rather than creating chaos and rot?

Part of Baru’s scheme for overthrowing Falcrest’s regime involves an alliance marriage which -- for complex cultural gender-politics reasons -- requires her to adopt a more masculine presentation: that is, she literally has to become butch-er
