April 23rd is celebrated since 1927 as #ChildrensDay in Turkey. The Declaration of the #Rights of the #Child is an international document promoting child rights, drafted by Eglantyne Jebb (the woman who founded Save The Children) and adopted by the League of Nations (first version of United Nations) in 1924. For 100 years we have been working on improving children's lives. BUT this is not successful in many places. In End-2020, An estimated 35 million (42%) of the 82.4 million forcibly #displaced #people are children below 18 years of age in the world. Between 2018 and 2020, an average of between 290,000 and 340,000 #children were born into a #refugee life per year. Source: UNHCR Far too many refugee boys and girls are living in conditions not suitable for children, with limited access to education and healthcare, no freedom of movement, and almost entirely dependent on aid. Happy Children's Day to all children in the world. Whether rich or poor, living in developed or developing countries, educated or illiterate, healthy or sick, all children deserve to be cherished, nurtured, and protected. For 100 years we have been working on improving children's lives. BUT this is not successful in many places. #Children around the world are routinely engaged in paid and unpaid forms of work that are not harmful to them. However, they are classified as child labourers when they are either too young to work, or are involved in hazardous activities that may compromise their physical, mental, social or educational development. In the least developed countries, slightly more than one in four children (ages 5 to 17) are engaged in labour that is considered detrimental to their health and development. Africa ranks highest among regions both in the percentage of children in child labour — one-fifth — and the absolute number of children in #child #labour — 72 million. Asia and the Pacific ranks second highest in both these measures — 7% of all children and 62 million in absolute terms are in child labour in this region. The Africa and the Asia and the Pacific regions together account for almost nine out of every ten children in child labour worldwide. The remaining child labour population is divided among the Americas (11 million), Europe and Central Asia (6 million), and the Arab States (1 million). In terms of incidence, 5% of children are in child labour in the Americas, 4% in Europe and Central Asia, and 3% in the Arab States. Source: International Labour Organization Photo by GMB Akash @gmbakash // Children work at a brick factory in Fatullah near #Dakka in #Bangladesh. For each thousand bricks they carry, they earn the equivalent of 0.9 USD. The average a child labourer earns between 400 to 700 taka (1 USD = 70 taka) per month. #ParallelUniversesOfChildren📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CcpZN3NoIPi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Right now more than 870 million people in the world do not have enough to #eat. The vast majority of these people (98 percent) live in developing countries. Women make up just over half of the world’s population, but account for over 60% of the world’s hungry. Under-nutrition at an early age can have long term effects on a child’s development – currently one in four of the world’s children (173 million) have been left stunted due to lack of appropriate nutrition in early life. Undernutrition is an underlying factor in 45% of deaths of children under age five. Source: @worldvision Around the world, we're seeing a huge number of devastating conflicts affecting millions of #children and #families. Wars in areas like #BurkinaFaso, #NorthEastNigeria, #Syria, and #Yemen are pushing people into #famine. As conflicts increase, children will continue to be disproportionally affected by hunger. Research shows that hunger and conflict are hugely intertwined. More than 60% of the people most at risk from hunger live in conflict zones, and 10 of the world’s 13 worst food crises are driven by conflict. It is a growing problem – major conflicts have tripled since 2010. In 2019, 77 million people in 22 countries experienced hunger due to armed violence and insecurity. Photo by Ed Ram @edr4m // In this aerial view, the bodies of six giraffes lie on the outskirts of Eyrib village in Sabuli Wildlife Conservancy on December 10, 2021 in Wajir County, Kenya. The giraffes, weak from lack of food and water, died after they got stuck in mud as they tried to drink from a nearly dried-up reservoir nearby. They were moved to this location to prevent contamination of the reservoir water. A prolonged drought in the country's north east has created food and water shortages, pushing pastoralist communities and their livestock to the brink. The area has received less than a third of normal rainfall since September. #ParallelUniversesWarPeace 📷 #BackWindowOfInstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CZMFIf2gcY4/?utm_medium=tumblr

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas militants came into effect early on Friday, May 21, following international efforts to negotiate an unconditional deal. The Israeli aerial and artillery campaign killed more than 232 people, including 65 children, in Gaza, many of them civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry, and badly damaged the impoverished territory’s infrastructure, including the fresh water and sewer systems, the electrical grid, hospitals, schools, and roads. More than 4,000 rockets had been fired by the Hamas at Israel from Gaza since May 10, killing 12 people, including 2 children, mostly civilians. #ParallelUniversesWarPeace 📷 https://www.instagram.com/p/CYHGizuIB_Y/?utm_medium=tumblr
