I wound up engaging in the duel with the straw hat in the rice patties without any prompting -- no one told me a rumor of man driven to slaughter waiting there placidly between kills for the ghost, no golden bird led me there, I simply found him.

I know that Jin isn't dead, but some of these encounters -- between the deliberate and personally devastating nature of them -- feel almost like you're piloting Jin through circles of Hell; like you are in fact a ghost trying to crawl your way towards the realm of humans one death at a time.
