Random Headcanon

Ok, ok, so hear me out. I fully believe that underwater sign language is a main form of communication merfolk use. I know they can speak like in chapter 3, but what if they are just using magic to project their voice through the water? Maybe some don't have as much magic and can't hold that spell as long. Children need a way to communicate (I'm not sure how early magic develops or if it's innate), and in deeper water, they use body language and bioluminescence to communicate. I also really like the idea of Floyd just being done talking, so he signs something to Jade or Azul, and they sign back, or have whole ass conversations and everyone (other than the other merfolks attending NRC) just being like wha-?

No I don't care what you have to say. You will have to pry this headcanon from my cold dead hands.
