I've seen a lot of ff writers apologize for their fic being "self-indulgent" which baffles me cause like is that not the entire concept of fanfiction?????

I only hate certain types of fic the same way I hate mosquitos and ticks. Like get these nasty little buggers away from me but also I respect their place in the ecosystem.

ugh, fuck myself. chihiro and touka should totally hate fuck and it should do nothing to get their relationship better but i so know it would make their obsession of being better/more worth it than the other of being by misaka's side bigger.

i'll try to finish this very self indulgent fic and post it soon, i am almost getting closer to the part i actually want to write (⁠´⁠-⁠﹏⁠-⁠`⁠；⁠)

putting it here because i don't trust myself and i fear i will not finish this for greenflame week but i want to share this wip anyway:

The presence behind him was familiar and comforting, something that he knew existed since he was a kid. The shuffling of the clothes was the same as before, however the brief clangs of metal was a new sound added to the moment; after all, children weren’t allowed to be walking with armor and swords even if they were squires. The distance between them was almost the same ― where before the older boy was closer, a hand away, so it was easier to stop the prince in case there was a need, now it grew to an arm’s length. Not much was between them, though it seemed to his soft heart there was a much larger space in the middle.  All that is to say: Kai was always one step behind him.

it just weirdly compels me?? like i can see both sides. touka is obsessed with misaka since odaiba counteroffensive — she got a role after that day, she has someone she can be besides, but she knows her place isn't secure. she is anxious about it, and it seems she isn't lucky with having people stay with her before entering misaka's legion (forgot how to write the name). while i do side eye how much touka cares about others, i do know she feels strongly about misaka to be completely selfish about it, so she will keep herself by her side, she has misaka permission for it damn it.

meanwhile chihiro was replaced — she feels like she was, so it's the truth for her. someone is where she used to be, and she barely feels human again, she is lost as fuck and she has no purpose at the moment (i dunno if she finds one after the stage play, so i'm not commenting on it). chihiro wanted to die when she realizes everything that she did while a little out of her mind, that is how much she feels remorse over her actions towards those she held dear and how much grief she feels over all the friends/family she lost after the others hanas died. she wants a guiding light, and misaka is this for her; always has been.

so of course they will compare themselves with each other and start fighting over misaka's attention and trying to one up each other. misaka will be delighted — her legion, her family !!, is finally complete. she can ask for nothing more. but these two? full on fighting over who will be misaka only one. they don't seem to care that misaka has two hands, they want both of these beautiful and wonderful hands holding their face, fuck the other.

and i find this so funny — and compelling, and interesting, and, and. oh my they're definitely the duo that end up dating in case misaka dies because nobody will ever be as obsessed and unwell about misaka dying than each other. they will fill misaka hole in their hearts with a toxic relationship with the other just to still have a piece of misaka with them. oh boy . fuck fuck fuck

anyway !!!! assault lily girlies are eating a part of my mind and i'm not sorry about it, only talking this once with my irl friend wasn't enough, i need to "immortalize" it on a tumblr post xD

I do have a piece of writing advice, actually.

See, the first time I grew parsnips, I fucked it up good. I hadn't seen parsnips sprouting before, right, and in my eagerness I was keeping a close eye on the row. And every time I saw some intruding grass coming up, I twitched it right out, and went back to anticipating the germination of my parsnips.

But it turns out parsnips take a bit longer than anything else I'd ever grown to distinguish themselves visually. It's just the two little split leaves, almost identical to a newly seeded bit of kentucky bluegrass when they first come up, and they take a good bit to establish themselves and spread out flat before the main stem with its first distinctive scallopy leaf gets going.

I didn't get any parsnips, not that year, because I'd weeded them all out as soon as they showed their faces, with my 'ugh no that's grass' twitchy horticulture finger.

The next year, having in retrospect come to suspect what had happened, I left the row alone and didn't weed anything until all the sprouts coming up had all had a bit to set in and show their colors, and I've grown lots of parsnips since. They're kind of a slow crop, not a huge return, but I like them and watching them grow and digging them up, and their papery little seeds in the second year, if you don't harvest one either on purpose or because you misjudged the frost, so it's worth it.

Anyway, whenever I see someone stuck and struggling with their writing who's gotten into that frustration loop of typing a few words, rejecting them, backspacing, and starting again, I find myself thinking, you gotta stop weeding your parsnips, man.
