An aquarium in Japan was closed for renovations, and their resident sunfish got depressed not seeing visitors. So the staff put some uniforms with printed faces against the tank, and it immediately recovered.

Dumb science fiction concept: the bomb that makes ghosts.
It doesn’t actually kill anyone, but its guts of clockwork crystal and brass release a burst of psychokinetic energy that resonates with any death that’s ever happened within the blast radius. If anything above the spectral weight of a dandelion has died in the past year in that area, its soul is pulled screaming back into the world of the living. The ghosts of ants. The ghosts of rats. The ghosts of birds and cats and dogs and neighbours, pulled into howling, shrieking unnatural undeath.
The practical application of this has yet to be determined.

Good trope: Character yelling, "It's not what it looks like!" while doing exactly what it looks like.
Great trope: Character yelling, "It's not what it looks like!" while doing something so unfathomable that the person who interrupted them can't even begin to attempt to figure out what the hell it is they're seeing.

When Mina is doomed to turn into the very thing that harmed Jonathan, become the thing that he hates most, and yet he pledges he shall present his neck for her to drink her fill from, and share her fate in dark matrimony. When she asks him to read her the burial service because she is dead and he must bury her and he obeys and he becomes her chief mourner. When she thus gives him the freedom to let go, and he acknowledges it and says I see what you're doing but I choose to take care of you and I always be armed to protect you from monster or man. When she chooses to face her fate on her own terms by going to the Castle, separated from him. When he tells her to do as she wills, and offers her his own gun so she can have control of her destiny once she arrives to the gates of hell. When Jonathan and Mina Harker.

YEAH THAT SUCKS.
Star Trek - or at least live action Modern Star Trek because Strange New Worlds and Picard did as well - has this weird fucking thing about bio-essentialism that irritates me to no end. Spock is not going to suddenly become Less Like That if you somehow removed his Vulcan DNA. His friends and co-workers aren't gonna suddenly be Space Racist against him if they magically had 100% Vulcan DNA.
I agree the tardigrade DNA would absolutely be a factor. We have medical histories that people can have *extremely* radical personality changes after a head injury, let alone the millions and millions of people who take pills to alter their brain chemistries to make them less depressed or other mental stuff. And Paul had both, with his brain chemistry and his cells of his nervous system changing and the - I think they called it "scar tissue" on his brain?, the white matter intensities in his brain concentrated on the frontotemporal lobe - the man had all of it.
Even if we leave out the part where "Paul is likeable enough to be in a long term relationship that has had lots of periods of long distance" because maybe Hugh's type is "complete asshole," Paul also managed to at least co-lead a lab in the queer luxury communism future where people do not have to put up with shitty jobs the vast majority of the time, and having a shitty boss would absolutely make most people bounce to somewhere else.
From the "Charecter Ask Game = shooting star emoji =" list:
"Least favorite canon thing about this character?" and Paul Stamets.
oh boy. Thank you!!!
I really don't like that it's canon that his personality change was 100% because of the Tardigrade DNA. I just think it's more interesting if it's a factor but not the whole story
