You choke on your own tail, a feast of horrific proportion. Your feeble claws flex and ache, pulling desperately at your jaws. Their arm, their attention, your belonging. It bleeds down back across your wrists, your arms. You are still choking on your own tail.

Your scales are rough, beaten up. Streaks of scars split them into shards across your lithe body, and ichor clots at the edges. Your cuts, your scabs, their kindness. Something screams at you, and you ignore it. Your eyes are bloodshot with endless insomnia, stuck in a pleading cry for an explanation. You are still choking on your own tail.

Your throat is in shreds. A last resort, you would assume, to just die in order to quit the meal. You were mistaken. No matter how many times you try, and no matter how many times you know it won’t work, you keep clawing. You feel your blood seep from the cuts, clotting, and returning to a stringy skin. You hear a scream again, and you cannot dismiss it. You know his voice. You are still choking on your own tail.

His words cut deeper than you could ever cut with your claws. It’s confusing. His words were compliments, signs of appreciation. Belonging. He helped you belong. It still cuts through your scales, into your flesh, and scuffs your bones. As his voice fades, the wounds clot and heal. The stench of ichor and blood makes you sick. You are still choking on your own tail.

You swallow a bite of your tail. More grows in its place. You have tried to eat faster than it can regenerate, but it always outpaces you, no matter the speed. Your legs are pristine, save for the drips and excess of ichor that falls from your body. You cannot reach to clean it. You are too busy. You are still choking on your own tail.

It is painfully apparent that you are alone. The only sounds you can hear are your sobs. Please, what did I do wrong? Please, did you ever care for me? Please, why did you do this? His voice returns again, but what follows are not his own words. You knew him. This isn’t who you knew. You are still choking on your own tail.

I cannot tell you how to break the cycle. His words leave no mark, but it’s like your nerves are being pulled like elastic to the point that they snap. I doubt there is even an end. You know these thoughts are your own. His voice speaks to soften the truth. You are still choking on your own tail.

In celebration of Inanimate Insanity II finally drawing to a close, we hope you'll join us for the Hotel OJ Party this Saturday!
