posting for Visibility. I’ve had similar experiences, including in the workplace. The thing I’ve noticed throughout my transition is some people don’t change the way they treat you until they’re reprimanded in some way socially. It’s like they need first-hand experience to be burned into their mind in order to care.
straight cis people complain about lgbtq+ people shoving it in their faces all the time, but here’s the thing: we have to.
like. i’m trans. i have a trans pin on my jacket and a pretty clear HE pin as well (and I know it’s not about how easy the pin is to read: my old one was even more clear and the same stuff happened. every. day.). Yet, every time I go somewhere, I’m called a girl. People use she/her for me. They refer to a group with me in it as “ladies.” Even though I’ve clearly shown what pronouns to use.
I introduce myself as James and people call me Jane or comment on how ‘that’s an unusual name’ (with the extremely obvious for a girl going unspoken most of the time), and continue to use she/her for me. Sometimes, they ask me how to spell it (they ask me how to spell James.) because they can’t believe a ‘girl’ would have that name.
If I want somebody to stop misgendering me, I have to say out loud that I’m trans, use he/him pronouns for me. I have to remind them every day, every time they misgender me, until they stop. And they never do stop completely. Even if they met me after I came out and have therefore always known me as a guy.
If you want us to stop ‘shoving it in your face’ maybe pay attention to our signals first.

Hello everyone! This is resource I wanted to tell you all about! It’s an app called “Voice Pitch Analyzer”. It has you read a passage a full minute, and then tells you if the range may be perceived as more masculine, feminine, or androgynous. (Disclaimer: Obviously peoples voices vary from person to person. There are women with very low voices and men with very high ones. This does not mean they aren’t “real” men and women. This is simply a post for those with voice dysphoria or who would just like to sound more masculine, feminine, or androgynous to those around them). Please don’t be discouraged if you voice does not land in the range you want it to! It takes practice, and practice is just what this app is for. It allows you to practice speaking in the range you want to be percieved as. Admittedly, it can be a little disheartening having to strain my voice just to get in the upper androgynous range, so a major dysphoria trigger warning to anyone considering downloading it, but, with practice I am getting better and able to talk in that low voice for longer periods of time.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT
For Male-at-birth Bigender Folks
Here’s a link to a person who got vaginoplasty while keeping their penis
Because no matter what gender binarists say, atypical dysphoria exists, and more of us are comfortable coming out and starting our journey transitioning.
Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope. Medically transitioning is long and expensive, but we will get there.
