Anime Horse Tourney
yes i'm doing this on a whim cuz i just remembered that one tumblr post talking about how wonky some anime horses look lol
Rules:
What it says on the tin. Submit horses from anime and manga.
It can be a gorgeous and majestic steed or the most fucked up creature ever conceived. Only important rule is that it Must be horsey (pegasi & unicorns count. If it's clearly equine, I'll count it, but I won't be accepting creatures like centaur, as they're only half-horse). I will also allow horse-based Pokémon.
A lot of the horses probably won't have names, so you Will be required to link a picture for me.
I won't be requiring propaganda on the form this time 'round, but you can still leave some if you feel inclined!
If I follow the schedule I have planned, the tourney should end on National Horse Day (December 13th)... we'll see how well I am at sticking to it though.
Submissions open until October 18th.

Morally Questionable Anime Milfs Submission Form
No mommy's perfect.
Welcome to the morally questionable anime milfs competition, where we pit hot moms who have made controversial choices against one another.
Fictional characters only please.
The term ‘anime’ is used loosely for simplicity’s sake. Manga, visual novels, manhua, manhwa, donghua, etc. are also allowed. If you have a question about a specific character, just ask. Or go ahead and submit them anyway, and if I don’t feel they fit, I just won’t include them.
Y'all know what milf means. I don't think I need to explain that one. Do feel free to tell me about your milf's sexiest qualities though.
Not limited to biological mothers—as long as the character fills a maternal role, it's fine.
This is NOT the place to submit outright abusive mothers (towards children, at least). The mom must genuinely care about their kid(s)/charge(s) and be someone who is not intentionally malicious. I would say it is alright to submit a 'bad mom with good intentions' who is trying their best, but still messing up, or a character that is a very good mother, but who's moral ambiguity arises from reasons Beyond their parenting. Example being the 'villain who's an excellent parent' trope. Just explain your reasoning to me, and I'll use my own discretion if I feel the character crosses a line.
I have not yet decided the bracket size, and will do so once I see the final submission count.
Some level of horniness in the propaganda is expected, but I will urge you guys try and keep things at a PG-13 level. Here's everyone's advisory notice now: Don't follow this particular competition if this type of content makes you uncomfortable.
Poll propaganda can be submitted through the ask box, replied directly on poll posts, or made as separate posts and then tagged with the blog name. Just be sure to keep things civil.
I'll keep the form open until June 15th. Have at it!

Autistic Anime Boys Side B Round 1 Match 29
Propaganda:
Apollo -
"Not canonically autistic but he has ZERO volume control plus he scripts/repeats stuff (“I’M FINE!!!”), sometimes mimics other people’s speech patterns (like replying “ja” to Klavier), sensitive to loud noises (stayed backstage at a concert cuz it was too loud) and bright lights (complained about the stage lights being too bright at the same concert + screamed when opening the hatch to the bright stage at magic show), and has been really into space since he was a kid, which could definitely be a hyperfixation (not to mention how he read every single one of Phoenix’s old case files back when he admired him). Plus he’s a little TOO normal, to the point where it circles back around to making him the odd one out, which is absolutely what masking feels like for me. Even when he tries to be fun and weird he gets strange looks/made fun of for not being weird in the right way. The list of autism symptoms is just a checklist for him at this point."
Tobio -
"kageyama is this setter (it’s a volleyball anime. means he coordinates plays and helps ppl spike) who at the start of the series is really angry and extremely lonely. but then bc of hinata (mc) and the rest of the team, he learns more about how to interact with other people and how that’s how you can win. he does go way too far with this and ends up not advocating for what he thinks the team should do, but hinata reminds him that if he gets mean again they’ll just tell him that and that he can say what he thinks too. he’s autistic bc i said so. my evidence:
- he started playing volleyball literally as soon as he could (like. when he was five).
- he’s been ostracized multiple times for being too obsessed with volleyball and not having normal interests/level of interest, and for being ‘too good’ at volleyball.
- he has a lot of trouble with social cues and social skills. like a lot. when he has trouble communicating with people/understanding people, he often gets angry.'

Autistic Anime Boys Side B Round 1 Match 11
Propaganda:
Mikey -
"This is a headcanon that didn’t originally occur to me, but then I encountered it in the wild, and something in my brain kinda lit up like ‘!!!’. I couldn’t stop turning the idea over in my head, like a slow roasting marshmallow, getting dangerously close to an open flame. So, here we are. First of all, Mikey is the leader of a biker gang. He has an immense interest in motorcycles (including their parts and repairing/building them), something of which he is able to bond with other delinquents over. He is frequently commented on by others as showcasing ‘childish’ behavior, such as whining when he doesn’t get his way, taking naps on his vice-commander, Draken’s, back or getting upset when he receives a kid’s meal with no flag in it. He often relies on Draken in a caretaker sort of role, such as providing the aforementioned flags to avoid meltdowns, tying his hair up just the right way in the mornings, going to his house to wake him up (all these things appear frequent activities/rituals Mikey relies on), and being “his heart.” Mikey appears to have naturally low empathy. Pretty early on in the series, he and Draken pay a visit to a girl who was put in the hospital by a rival gang, for being affiliated with some of their members. Her parents encounter them and they are furious that anyone involved in gang activity would even dare show their faces, despite Mikey and Draken not being the ones to actually hurt her. He insists they shouldn't apologize to the parents, because it's not their fault and they personally didn't do anything, failing to comprehend the bigger picture, that the lifestyle of delinquency and crime in general and the violence it breeds, not just between those who partake, but innocents caught in the crossfire, is what led to their daughter's assault. And they are feeling grief and anger, thus acting irrationally and lashing out (which, while illogical to Mikey, is a typical emotional reaction to this sort of situation). But he eventually amends his opinion at Draken’s urging—reserving emotional consideration for when his friends are involved primarily. Difficulty regulating emotions, selective listening, and self-centeredness are also all traits that Mikey has exhibited. He often has atypical/repressed facial expressions. He has safe foods—preferring sweet things like dorayaki and taiyaki above all else. He has a comfort item in the form of an old, raggedy towel, which is, in his words “his whole life,” and refuses to give it up even when his family urges him to throw it out. “The tip of his towel” is canonically his “favorite spot”—He is seen stimming with it by rolling it up and kneading it with his hands and fingers. He also prefers to dress for comfort, in loose and baggy clothes whenever he is outside of his gang uniform, and he always wears the same flip-flops, even when it would seem inconvenient. Some other things that don’t necessarily point to autism, but maybe could be considered in the broader picture with everything else?
Routine night motorcycle rides with his brother and childhood friend, which he continues, same time and route, after their deaths, while talking like they are still there with him (though this is more him just honoring their memories and finding comfort in these old actions)
‘Dark impulse’ flare-ups could be interpreted as meltdowns that cross into violent territory? (Like after Sanzu allegedly broke his new toy as a child) But again, dark impulses are a whole other can of worms that could probably be likened to other things better than autism
He is canonically considered a martial arts genius/prodigy, which could be read as some sort of savantism, but also just typical shounen anime shenanigans Despite some of the shakier things to consider, I find myself really liking the idea of autistic Mikey, and I do think there’s a lot in the story in favor of that reading of him. I’d love to see him represented here!"
Yotasuke -
"He has terrible social skills and doesn't filter his words, and although he does not have bad intentions, he often comes off extremely cold or harsh, saying things like "Talking with you irritates me so can you please leave me alone?". He struggles to make friends, especially since he purposefully pushes people away. Yatora, the main character, brings the number of contacts on his phone to a grand total of three. His wardrobe consists of almost exactly the same shirt over and over again. He holds his pencil and chopsticks extremely weird. He loves animals and is often pictured with them, for example cats and rabbits. He was considered extremely talented at art when he was a child, and his art is still amazing but it has messed up the way he interacts with others. He feels as though art is all he has. This causes him to resent Yatora, who appears to have so many skills and career options, as well as a thriving social life. Yotasuke also has a very strained relationship with his mother, who can be quite manipulative at times. He is also very silly if that means anything to you. Everyone should go read Blue Period actually."

Autistic Anime Girls Finale
SUBMISSION PROPAGANDA:
Asa -
"one of the first things that shows up when you search up 'asa mitaka' on google is 'autistic' which is a good start.
some notable traits is applying herself to rules when it's not needed, when she waited to walk the street at a red light even when there was absolutely no cars, she doesn't fit in well with her peers, notoriously awkward (and a bit of a klutz), she doesn't seem to have an acknowledgment of her own tone or volume when talking to people (she feels okay just yelling out loud to her devil hallucination in public..), and of course.. her idea of a date is setting up a timed-out plan, with her telling many sea creature facts without pause. she does NOT wanna deviate from this plan. She very much bores her date, but she thought it would win him over instantly.
all in all Asa is a very relatable character to a lot of autistic people, especially autistic girls and autistic teenagers. a lot of her character and arc is centered around social isolation and trying to connect with people, and how that also interacts with self worth. personally i think she should win."
Izutsumi -
"Izutsumi is a picky eater and she has sensory touch issues as well plus as a catgirl she automatically gets autism because all cats have autism by human standards."
Richeh -
"her life's purpose is to live her life according to her own rules, regardless of society's rules that don't make sense to her. and she does that by wholeheartedly embracing her special interests of making delicate magic of crystally stuff and shiny ribbons! she's also prone to making lil puns with her name and the names of the other witches in her atelier, and nobody really gets them aside from the people in her found family <3
also (CONTAINS SPOILERS) her brother once told her that he loved her magic just as it was and that he hoped she never stopped making it and being herself (paraphrased cuz i don't remember the actual quote!) and she took that literally to mean that she shouldn't make magic that wasn't the kind of magic that was hers- i.e. shiny, small, ornate, and detailed magic. Being forced to change how she made her magic in order to "do things the proper way" during her original apprenticeship caused her intense distress, and she'd often refuse to do so and would instead think up her own magic to solve problems instead of doing things by the book. Doing that subjected her to harassment and abuse from her original professor, leading to her eventually needing to leave her 'traditional' witch apprenticeship and get her apprenticeship done at Qifrey's atelier, a place far removed from the main witch cities that accommodates her and allows her to grow the way she wants to."

PROPAGANDA
ASUNA (SWORD ART ONLINE) (CW: Sexual Assault, Sexual Harassment, Tentacles)
1.) So the sins with Asuna really become outright in the second arc, Alfheim, where she goes from being an active, main character to being in a coma in the real world and locked away in a literal cage so that finding/rescuing her could be her boyfriend/virtual husband and protagonist Kirito’s motivation for the season. On top of that, the guy who’s trapping her (his name is Sugou) has dressed her in a revealing outfit and is constantly being creepy toward her and then literally sexually assaults her. Have I mentioned that she’s a teenager and he’s an adult? When she tries to escape, she’s also captured by these monsters with tentacles (who are actually just employees who look like tentacle monsters) and held up upsidedown by their tentacles, and there is a whole scene of her talking with these guys with her held like this, and there are multiple shots that are very objectifying. And then at the end of the scene, one of the dudes leaves to do something and goes “hey, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do while I’m gone” and then the other dude tries to sexually assault her with his tentacles, and it is very much drawn in a titilating manner, like the show looks like it’s about to turn into tentacle hentai, with close up shots of tentacles wrapping around parts of her body (e.g. stomach, thighs) and then panning down her whole body as the tentacles are rippling over her. There’s even a shot of the lower half of her face (not her whole face, that might convey too much personhood) where the tentacle moves toward her mouth in a very “oh god, this is a scene from hentai” way as part of the, y'know sexual assault, and, while it doesn’t go in her mouth because she bites it in self-defense and fends the assault off first, it still gets that far. Why is this here? What does it add to the plot or her character? Nothing. It adds nothing; it’s just there for titilization. Similarly, the scene where her captor sexually assaults her includes shots like a close up of him dragging his finger up her bare stomach, and there is no reason for it to be shot like that unless it is for “fan service”, for lack of a better term. Hell, he tears off her shirt, and the shot after he does isn’t her face but Kirito’s, and she spends the rest of the scene shirtless but with strands of her hair covering her nipples. He forcefully kisses her (for a while too, although at least we don’t see that in detail) and tears one of her skirts, and it is horrific, but the focus of the scene is how evil Sugou is and how it upsets Kirito, and we get very little from Asuna. The person who gets an interior monologue about the situation is Kirito. The person who gains the ability to fight on via scene in his mind is Kirito. It transitions into a fight scene, and Asuna is just kind of hanging there off screen, and when it ends, the person who cries is Kirito, and the one who does the comforting is Asuna, and it is INSANE, like WHAT???
2.) She is sexually harrassed frequently. Then she gets abducted, so her love interest can be all “"cool”“ and ”“heroic”“ saving her.
Most infamously, though, she is sexually assaulted, on screen, for the sake of manpain and titillation. She is 17 when this happens btw.
Also I’m pretty sure every female character in this series qualifies, but (for what I think are obvious reasons) I don’t really go here.
3.) Kirito took all of her brain cells and replaced it with two. Actually, , I take it back. King Oberon absorbed all of her brain cells. It will take Asuna a thousand years to regain all of her brain cells.
MISA AMANE (DEATH NOTE) (CW: Imprisonment, Torture)
1.) Misa is treated so phenomenally poorly by the writers of Death Note. She is devoted enough to Kira’s cause to sacrifice half her lifespan for the additional power to see people’s names just by seeing their faces (you need a face and a name to kill someone with the Death Note), and she takes the time to understand everything about it. She, a random civilian, is able to find Kira all by herself by being clever, and she’s very devoted to Kira and Kira’s cause. You would think this would earn her some respect and make her a force in the narrative in opposition both to L’s lawfulness and Light’s god complex (because Misa is a true believer, while Light is some dude with a god complex and a willingness to commit mass murder to further it), but no, the moment she meets Light she falls hopelessly in love with him (not just Kira according to her), pledges her loyalty to him, and agrees to mindlessly follow him, with her sole condition being that he can’t date other girls (and if he tried to, she’d kill the other girl; note how this is not a threat on LIGHT’S life) and has to date her and at least pretend to love her. You would think, again, that these would become problems that potentially fuck Light over, but they are mild inconveniences at best. And, despite her ability to find Kira and only get found out by bullshit trace DNA and pollen nonsense that she, again as a random civilian with no knowledge of forensics that honestly sound SO FAKE (really, trace pollen from something that is super rare and exists near her apartment but few other places? Trace pollen that got in the shit she put together INDOORS? Come on, that’s SUCH bullshit, and SO contrived), had no way of knowing existing. Because she DID circumvent all the ways she’d incriminate herself that a normal person would know about, but because they got her on the SMALLEST SHIT, they’re like “oh, she’s an idiot.” And it’s not in a “oh, look at these guys, underestimating her” way, it’s in an “oh yeah, they’re 100% right, she’s an idiot” way.
EVERYONE in universe regards her as an idiot, both when she’s just known as the Second Kira and once her identity has been found out. The creators in a bonus book rank her knowledge at 3/10 and her creativity at 4/10, which is SUCH bullshit when all of her plans (the few ones they let her have) make creative use of her powers and talents. Like, she sent a video into a tv station that contained a journal entry that had multiple dates on it, with one being clear bait for the police to approach, one being irrelevant, and one containing information that only someone with a Death Note would understand, and she uses this to indicate a time and place they should meet. Except she doesn’t meet him there, she dresses up in a plain outfit and wig that look NOTHING like her and sits and watches the crowd, waiting for someone to walk by who is missing the date of their death above their head (an indicator that that person has a Death Note), and then goes home and researches him online. That is objectively clever! Even if the cops were there, which they were, they would never notice her (and they didn’t) or figure out that she got the information she needed. HOW is that not creative? HOW does that support her being an idiot? Light tricked a woman (Naomi Misora, who deserves her own entry) into giving her his name one time in a way that almost gave him away, and that was regarded as sooooo clever, but this is stupid? Ohba, explain. Matsuda, who I love dearly but also who has never a plan half as clever or interesting as hers, gets knowledge at 4/10 and creativity at 5/10. It’s misogyny, there’s no other reason that makes sense.
And when her anonymous videos that she used to draw out Kira mention the shinigami and notebooks very subtly, in a way the police wouldn’t understand, Light is like “Second Kira, you IDIOT”, but meanwhile, when Light had a victim mention shinigami in a note written before they died for the sole purpose of fucking with L, the narrative is like “Oh, look at him, he’s so clever mentioning shinigami when L has no way of knowing how important and real they are.” The double standard of it all!
Also, ok, so, the reason L dies is because Misa’s shinigami Rem fell in love with her and wants to protect her, even if it results in Rem’s death (which it does because a shinigami dies if they kill someone for the purpose of saving someone else). However, Misa is not involved AT ALL in getting Rem to go through with this. Light manipulates Rem into doing it, and the fact that this also doesn’t bite him in the ass, even though Misa and Rem were friends, is INSANE. Their logic is clearly that obviously Misa would never rebel against Light because it’s not like she has an internal life and feelings outside of devotion to Light, and if she did, she couldn’t do anything because she’s an idiot, so it’s not worth exploring. God forbid she have agency and be a force in the narrative, even though it would make the story more interesting and complex. She doesn’t even need to be super smart for that! The creators THEMSELVES rank her social skills, charm, and initiative at 10/10, and she gets to use them all of one (1) time. They just keep not letting her do things, and it’s at the expense of their story EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Also, after this, she’s gives up her Death Note (which means she loses her memories involved with being a Death Note user) when Light tells her to, and then she’s just written out of the story, with the exception of her looking sexy, being a jealous girlfriend, and being implied to die, even though TWO shinigami died for her and thus gave her their lifespans. Yeah, she halved one of those, gained the other, then halved that again, but she should have gained more than a total of, like, eight years from that! But no, Light’s story is done, so why would Misa survive when he didn’t?
That’s not to mention the weird fetish-y way she was tied up when imprisoned. She wasn’t in her normal clothes that she had been apprehended in, no, she was put in this raggedy, white straightjacket-looking thing, with a blindfold and her arms crossed over her and fastened behind her back. She was kept on some slab and set upright for FIFTY DAYS. Like, look at this shit:
Meanwhile, Light, who was also imprisoned, kept his regular clothes and only had his arms tied behind his back normally. The only difference in the powers they were assumed to have is that she could kill with just a face. So why the weird outfit, huh, Ohba, Obata? And, like, they sell FIGURES OF IT in the real world, people can BUY her in this outfit and DISPLAY it, and it is CLEARLY because they think some Death Note fans would find it arousing. And if the whole show was just fetish shit in all directions, then, sure, fine, go for it, but it is JUST her in this moment! And, like, if it was supposed to show something about L and how he’s kinda fucked up like that, you would think it would, like, come up again or something but it gets a fleeting mention ONCE and then THAT IS IT. Why do this, literally why??? Like, how high did they get off their own misogyny to come up with this?
I just. I can’t with how they treat Misa, I CANNOT. Like, I know they love to jerk off Light and talk about he’s sooooo smart and clever and charming, but this goes beyond putting her down because they want to lift him up. They put her in to cause some chaos a couple of times, pull some fetish shit, provide the method for killing L (but not do it herself or even play any active role at all in it), and then they’re done with her. She’s a convenient tool to the writers, not a character, unlike most of the male characters whose emotional reactions to Light’s bullshit come back to haunt him. For example: the way his responsibility for his father’s death and his dismissal of his father during his big confession lead Matsuda, who had liked Light but had a stronger emotional connection to his dad, to shoot him in a way that stops Light from using his Death Note scrap to get out of being surrounded after being definitively revealed to be Kira. And like, I love that moment for Matsuda, it’s great, my favorite scene in the whole show, but why don’t Misa’s emotions and bonds get to drive her to action in a way that is inconvenient to Light? Fine, she has unending devotion, why not have THAT do anything either? And it’s because this is the same type of treatment all the female characters in Death Note get (although Misa gets it worse by a country mile), being a POTENTIAL to MILD problem for Light and/or a person to use the Death Note in his place but little else, or someone to get kidnapped, it makes it clear that Misa’s treatment here is due to misogyny that infects the whole text, and it just. It rankles.
2.) Despite having the potential to be an interesting character (unhinged death note who doesn’t have excuses for killing people like Light does, actual connection to her Shinigami), she just gets reduced to Light’s plaything and fangirl, literally keeling over backwards for him. She ends up having nothing to do in the story, being reduced to this hollow shell of what she could have been, with her only personality trait being that she’s obsessed with Light, even after he routinely ignores her and even cheats on her. Every woman in Death Note gets put on the sidelines so the male characters can take the spotlight, but Misa easily has the biggest wasted potential of any of them.
3.) Left as flat, annoying, and obsessed with a guy who treats her badly the entire series. Could have had a lot more development but she just gets treated like an idiot at every turn despite HER INTRODUCTION including a pretty clever plan actually. As the series goes on it feels like they make her less and less intelligent just to justify why she’s keeping the exact same dynamic with light. Honestly the more i think about it the weirder that gets.
I don’t think it’s a problem in itself to have a character who isn’t especially intelligent or is easily manipulated or is an obsessive fan, and you can make really interesting stories using characters with those traits. But DN just did not do that, and honestly I think if Misa was written a bit smarter (not necessarily super detective chess nonsense smart, just having actual fucking agency and being able to come up with plans of her own) the series would be way better for it. You get a whole new dimension to the conflicts and scheming if she’s acting on her own terms, or trying to help and doing something unexpected, or just generally having another character with a death note and complicated ties to the main characters and actual human agency. Like even STAYING obsessed with Light she could have been so much more and the specifics of her motivations could be explored in more interesting detail than just making her a rabid fangirl even having spent enough time with the object of her obsession that the dynamic should have evolved.
She’s in a classic of the “so misogynistic it turned out gay” genre and like good for the gays i guess but holy shit she got done so dirty. She deserved better and DN would have been not only better in the “don’t be a jerk towards entire groups of people” sense but also probably better as a drama intrigue situation if the authors had a crumb of respect for her.
Also due to the story events she’s set to die pretty young and this is barely addressed? It’s a sidenote really and a lot of people die but Rem is the only one who gives a shit and their reaction is not focused on for long. I will not start about her and Rem because that will make this much much longer and is relevant more to why i like Misa than to why she got fucked over. (But hey it’s kinda fucked that she definitely did have people who supported and cared for her and they all got stripped away and it’s not even played as fucked up that this woman has no support network save for one guy who would kill her in a heartbeat if he thought it would help him and also that Misa can’t fully see the people who do care about her until it’s too late and this is never played as dark and serious in a series that thrives on being dark)
It’s just really really obvious that the authors do not see or write her as a person.
tl;dr SHE’S THE SECOND FUCKING KIRA and she gets treated like a PROP for most of the story. gets downgraded to scenery actually later in the story
actual tl;dr: introduced with an interesting plan and motivations worth exploring, slowly has her undeveloped personality steamrollered further and is treated like a tool and a prop for the rest of the series.

"she is a 14 year old girl. she may have been a 14 year old girl for centuries. she's a walking metaphor for what the patriarchy does to girls and especially to abuse victims AND just a teenage girl at the same time. she's a weirdo who keeps snails in her pencil case. she's in pain all the time, she finds it very funny to put another girl in situations (and maybe it's a warning, but it's also a prank), she's in love and it's terrible, she's quite opaque to the audience as she is to the other characters (and the audience, like the other characters, often seems to project their own thoughts and ideas onto her) but we get glimpses here and there. Autistic Anime Girls Group 3 Round 4 Match 1
SUBMISSION PROPAGANDA:
Hikari -
"Hikari is student of Seisho Music Academy, she's training to be a stage actress. She does so to one day realize the promise she made with her best friend when she was 5, of performing together on a stage. At first she seems mysterious and secretive, but the more you learn about her, the more you realize she's just autistic. She has the same comfort mascot since she was a baby. She hates some food based on its texture. She won't get your social cues. She will leave without a word if she's not vibing with a place/people. She won't make a facial expression, any. She will stare at Jellyfish for hours on end. She walks around with her suitcase all the time."
Nafra -
"She's everything to me. A tiny demon on the student council who almost always wears a magical cloak to hide her natural appearance, which seems to be a comfort item, as she's nervous without it. Other students are repelled by her scent and 'odd' behavior and it's left her a bit of a loner. People have trouble understanding her cuz she doesn't talk like everyone else and prefers to make gestures and little sounds. Best girl <3."

She needs to divorce the loveless lavender marriage she’s in
What is there to say, even? The OG Threat to my 90s anime brain, the only woman I've ever hated with such a passion she made me turn away from the color pink. I used to write fics with my friend where she got left behind on purpose so our OCs could join the Naruto and Sasuke team instead. I loathed this bitch until I was 16 and realized the author simply couldnt write women and decided it was time to make peace with Sakura. It is not her fault she's vaguely written and obsessive over Sasuke. She deserves better. Sasuke and Naruto still should be together and Sakura shouldnt be with Sasuke but I no longer believe this because I hate Sakura, it is because I love her. She deserves a spouse who will actually put in the time to treat her like the hero she is.
Misa Amane
she gets treated in-canon the way fandoms treat female characters that Threaten an m/m ship. it's like, "oh why don't you go sit in the corner and be pretty, misa, while the Men have intelligent conversation and pretend they aren't ten seconds from fucking each other, doesn't that sound nice?" it's infuriating. and MAYBE it's better now but i remember her getting treated the same way in fanfiction too, like we all need to do just as badly by our female secondary characters as fucking tsugumi ohba, but with the added insult of making her be alternately oblivious of the relationship between light and L or actively trying to sabotage it—incompetently, of course, because god forbid misa be allowed dignity or moments of cleverness.
she's one of the first characters I think of when I consider old school fandom misogyny. The annoying bitch and clingy crazy gf allegations were AFTER HER ASS. She's also a lot more intelligent than people gave her credit for, but most seem inclined to take the Very Biased word of our unreliable, narcissistic narrator and his homoerotic arch nemesis and claim that just because she's bubbly and into romance that she's also a complete moron. Which is blatantly untrue. Everyone was afraid of Misa girlbossing too hard. Killing people and devoting yourself to the deranged twink of your dreams even though you know he'll never love you back??? Having a hardcore goth aesthetic and being so Hot even literal Death Gods are into you?? God forbid women do ANYTHING!
Not only is she the victim of yaoi culture, she is the victim of early 2000s misogyny by an author that wanted to introduce a girl character because he knew his male rivals were getting too homoerotic. She is a goth bimbo icon who portrays what I think is one of the few callouts for stan culture and what parasocial relationships can do to both the stan and the idol. The fact that she is a toxic fan of Kira and also hot, funny, sociable is tragic in its own way, which I think the author did try to touch on but was too misogynistic too really get through. Of course, she was reduced to villain status by the fandom and anime alike because she got in the way of the supposed romance in their psychological horror anime
