I think the reason I dislike popular takes on geto and toji is that they usually disregard the very obvious social commentary behind both characters and either prioritize their victimhood without any accountability for their actions, or solely focus on their crimes along the lines of “they suck bc x character (or I) would never turn into a killer despite going through similar things”.
when it’s just crucial to understand that both of these characters are simultaneously victims AND horrible people because of their very own actions, and that you’re not necessarily supposed to like them - the narrative never justifies their actions or way of thinking either.
however, we also need to discuss victims of systematic abuse and exploitation that didn’t turn out well despite the things they went through. at the end of the day, both of these characters were very powerful people to begin with, groomed in an extremely violent environment where they experienced severe trauma without any psychological support or a teacher who made sure they were okay, yet they also chose to continue the cycle of violence as adults.
it’s true, that there are characters that had similar upbringing or went through the same traumatic experience and didn’t turn out like them. in fact it’s all about you noticing this very similarity and the tragic underlying what if’s.

I should go back to writing sand and snow….
shoutout to the fanfic so fucked up so smutty so particular to canon that it’s impossible to turn into an original novel. when something exists solely for making other fans eat glass. and you can only tell a very particular kind of person at a very particular time in their life about it after reading, creating a unique warrior bond forever

I don’t need therapy. I need my husband (archive of our own) to return from war (the server is currently down) and come home to his devoted wife (an ao3 user who was in the middle of reading a gay sex scene). it’s been almost two years (20 minutes) since he (ao3) has been taken from me

This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
👏 comment 👏 on 👏 old 👏 fics 👏

How to Stop Hating Everything You Write
1. Don't be afraid of making mistakes.
Quit judging yourself for every mistake you make along the way. Whether you're writing fiction, fanfiction, or nonfiction, just write. If you can't correct your errors as you go, that's okay. When I don't have the brainpower to multitask, I focus on the writing stage one step at a time. Just write!
2. Don't aim for perfection.
"It's not ready if it's not perfect." That's a lie. When you're in the process of writing, it's best to concentrate on getting your thoughts on paper.
3. Seek feedback and learn to receive it.
Join lively communities with active writers or forums that host events inviting writers to share their work for critique. Not every critique is constructive; learn to discern which feedback to take on board and which to ignore.
4. Read, read, read.
You can't give what you don't have. You learn a lot from reading similar pieces in your chosen genre. Reading is also a source of inspiration that fuels your writing process.
5. Cut yourself some slack.
Writing is no small feat. It takes talent to formulate a story with your mind and skill to visualize it for others to see. Do you love writing? Then keep doing it because it takes practice.
