A LESSON IN HOW TO LOVE, EQUIP & EMPOWER INNER-CITY YOUTH
Tumblr media
Founded in 1997, by former professional golfer Bill Hobbs, URBAN YOUTH IMPACT is the only faith-based organization serving the most at risk inner-city youth in Palm Beach County, primarily through award winning after-school programs.  These children are loved through trusting relationships, equipped with academics to succeed in school and empowered with leadership skills to begin successful careers. Their potential is expanded by discovering artistic and creative talents and they are guided to discover their purpose in life.
Each week, more than 300 inner-city youth are loved, equipped and empowered by this ministry and it’s founding partners through UYI’s signature programs such as THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (TLA) and SMART (SCIENCE MEETS ART).
Tumblr media
The primary focus is in neighborhoods identified by Children’s Services Council as areas with the most at-risk children based on indicators such as poverty levels, school readiness, graduation rates, teen pregnancy and others.  Current focus areas include West Palm Beach’s Tamarind Avenue corridor and sections of Riviera Beach.
After volunteering with UYI, I was greatly touched by their mission to love and empower some of the most at-risk youth right in our own backyard.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: BITSY STONEKING
Sourcing items from around the globe for her online shop; BITSY STONEKING, Katrina Stoneking is fueled by a passion to bring unique finds to her shoppers and a dedication to increase awareness about a rare condition called Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). Stoneking’s discerning eye and colorful sense of style provide a brilliant playground for her shoppers to enjoy!
Tumblr media
A native of the sunshine state, Stoneking grew up in Delray and then attended The University of South Carolina where she received a double major in management and marketing as well as a double minor in fashion merchandising and retail - with an emphasis on global retail. After various roles including time at Miller Brewing company in Milwaukee, Red Bull and Pabst Brewing then Bacardi in Los Angeles, she moved back east to Charlotte to start a family with her husband; Matt and joined a wine and champagne company.  Over 2 years ago, the Stoneking’s decided to move home to south Florida.
It was during this time that Stoneking started having health issues. At 32, she suffered from 3 heart attacks, due to stress and baseline hormones. Stoneking was diagnosed with a rare condition called SPONTANEOUS CORONARY ARTERY DISSECTION  (SCAD for short) and has spent the last three years refocusing her priorities and life.  Thanks to the incredible team at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota - a leading researcher in SCAD- her recovery process began to turn around, in part to some amazing results with clinical trials with stem cells.  For this reason, Stoneking donates 10% of the sales from her site to stem cell research at the Mayo Clinic.  See more on CD34+ stem cell research HERE.
During this time of recovery and reflection, Stoneking began to dream up an online platform where visitors could shop the globe without leaving their homes.  The brands featured on Bitsy Stoneking are sourced from all over the world. Often, the brands are found from the country the Stoneking’s last traveled to and the brands they have had the opportunity to research and talk to the designers and manufacturers.  Bitsy Stoneking’s latest collection is a beautiful capsule from Greece, made of beautiful whites, bright blues and colors that take you directly to the Hellenic Republic and the Ionian and Mediterranean Sea.
Stoneking prides herself in carrying items that are exclusive to the site and limited in production.  Her favorite looks for either staying in or going out are an easy dress to throw on.  The JONES DRESS from Paris, KATHERINE MINI KAFTAN or ANASTACIA KAFTAN from Greece are all lightweight, chic and comfortable.
Tumblr media
Bitsy Stoneking adds new items to the site every month! The next import will arrive from Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand & Haiti.

Family Ties: The Lovely Ladies of Pioneer Linens
In these unprecedented times, it is upon all of us to continue to provide support for our local small businesses, our families and most importantly, each other. We’ve been overwhelmed by the strength, love and unprecedented steps our local businesses have taken to support our community at large. The family behind Pioneer Linens has exemplified what it means to be a “Pillar of the Community” since first opening their doors in 1912. In between filling orders for their online shop and sending out deliveries, we grabbed a few moments to interview the lovely ladies running the luxury linens and goods store, Penny Murphy, and her two daughters, Marissa Murphy and Camille Kubicek. Scroll down to read the full Family Ties feature.
Tumblr media
TSG: What is your favorite aspect about owning a business in the Palm Beaches?
Penny: My grandfather started the store here 108 years ago. He and my father made it a point to give back to the community. My daughters and I feel honored that we get to continue that legacy.
TSG: What were your professional backgrounds before opening the store?
Camille: Our mother (Penny) was a kindergarten teacher and administrative assistant at St. Ann’s Catholic School in West Palm Beach. Marissa lived “the outdoor life”, working as a ski instructor and river guide in Colorado. I spent some time in the financial industry working as a Marketing Intern at Allen & Company Investments.
TSG: What roles do each of you play at the store?
Penny: Marissa manages our e-commerce platform and operations. Camille is our buyer, overseeing our merchandising practice and media. And I’m the President… The buck stops here!
Tumblr media
TSG: What items/brands in the store are you LOVING right now?
Marissa: We LOVE our new private label, called “Pioneer Linens Signature Collection” designed by Camille and custom made in Italy.
TSG: Describe Penny in two sentences or less.
Camille & Marissa: Our mother is patient, very fair and understanding. She is our role model, hardworking and a great listener!
TSG: Describe Marissa in two sentences or less. (For Penny + Camille)
Penny & Camille: Marissa is the queen of customer service and rarely seen without her favorite accessory – her dog Siena. She’s always ready to take on a challenge and learn new skills. Even as a young child, she was very logical. Marissa is beyond kind and thoughtful to her family and friends.
TSG: Describe Camille in three sentences or less.
Penny & Marissa: Camille has always been the comic relief in our family. She has great taste and an eye for spotting new and interesting designs. She’s such a visual person and so creative!
Favorite lunch spot?
Penny: The Palm Beach Yacht Club… and my office!
Marissa: Poolside at The Colony Hotel
Camille: The Honor Bar at The Royal Poinciana Plaza
 Favorite cup of coffee?
Penny: I’m a tea drinker. Stash is my favorite spot.
Marissa: Another Royal Poinciana Plaza staple, Sant Ambroeus
Camille: I’m also a fan of Sant Ambroeus.
 Favorite Florida Activity?
Penny: Playing croquet, which I only have time for on our off season…the summer.
Marissa: Walking the Lake Trail on Palm Beach with my pup.
Camille: Croquet and cocktails at the Summer Croquet League at the National Croquet Center in West Palm!
In the wake of COVID-19, Pioneer Linens is taking 30% off all in-stock inventory. The store is operating with a small staff under regular business hours for assistance. During this time, they are offering complimentary Facetime home consultations with their design specialist, complimentary home deliveries, curbside pickup and free shipping

Q + A with Jill Botnik of Squeeze Pilates
We’re taking a momentary break from the news today to catch up with one of our favorite leading local ladies, Jill Botnick of Squeeze Pilates located in The Royal Poinciana Plaza. Jill was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedules answer a few of our questions for our “Healthy Living Series.”
Tumblr media
TSG: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? How long have you been practicing and teaching Pilates?
Jill: I have been practicing and teaching Pilates since having my fifth child, 24 years ago. I never thought I would have abdominal muscles again, but Pilates toned and strengthened my core, flattened my abdomen and helped me become stronger than ever before.
TSG: What originally attracted you to Palm Beach? And, what are your favorite parts about the community?
Jill: My parents and I began visiting Palm Beach when I was child. After Hurricane Katrina flooded my family’s home in New Orleans in 2005, we relocated here permanently.
I love how amiable the community is in Palm Beach, especially all of our fabulous clients here at Squeeze Pilates.
TSG: What makes the Squeeze Pilates experience distinctive?
Jill: Squeeze Pilates is a very unique studio, offering a variety of classes on state-of-the-art equipment. We offer group classes, small classes for up to 4 people, as well as private and semi-private classes. The studio can accommodate up to 9 clients on Balanced Body Pilates Equipment and we provide in-home training as well. All of our instructors are certified in a variety of disciplines and specialities, including: Personal Training, Pilates for Golfers, Dancers, Tennis Players and Equestrians. Additional specialities include, Pilates for Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke Recovery, Knee/Hip replacements and cancer patients.
TSG: Fitness and overall health are very important to us here in Palm Beach. Can you tell us about some of the health benefits when doing Pilates?
Jill: Pilates develops the core of the body between the hip bones and the rib cage. A strong core results in flat abdominal muscles and strong, supported back muscles, which allows our organs to function at a higher capacity. Pilates also increases flexibility and mobility, promotes balance and stability, and helps alleviate aches and pains in the joints and lower back by strengthening supporting muscles. Pilates can help athletes enhance their performance in a variety of sports, including: Tennis, golf, polo, dressage, running, football, basketball and dance.
TSG: What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had working with a client?
Jill: I take great joy in seeing our clients improve their strength and flexibility, increase their activity level, find joy in they incredible results they experience. Seeing clients alleviate their pain, increase their muscle mass, improve their range of motion, and lose weight through Pilates is truly rewarding.
TSG: Anything else you’d like to tell us about Squeeze Pilates?
Jill: Pilates is excellent for everyone! Whether you are an elite athlete, recovering from injuries or have never worked out before, you can experience the incredible benefits of Pilates. Pilates lengthens, strengthens, tightens and tones the body in a safe, gentle, and effective way. All of our instructors are highly skilled and deeply passionate about transforming the lives of each individual client. We are committed to personalizing each session to meet the unique physical needs of everyone that walks through our door. We hope you give Pilates a try and experience the incredible life-changing and rewarding results of honoring our bodies.

8 TIPS TO REFRESH YOUR HOME FOR SPRING FROM KRISTA WATTERWORTH ALTERMAN OF KRISTA + HOME
By the time “The Season” wraps up around April, like most Palm Beachers, we’re absolutely exhausted and in need of a project that puts some pep in our step! There’s nothing quite as rejuvenating than making a few updates to refresh your home décor for Spring. Luckily, we have the award-winning interior designer, Krista Watterworth Alterman of KRISTA + HOME, on-hand with tips on adding a little bit of her signature style, The New Palm Beach™, to every home.
Tumblr media
1. Add a bit of vacationing spirit to your space. Add accessories and artwork that represent your favorite places to visit. In my own home, the table in dining room reminds me of the 6 months I spent in the English countryside in Bath! It is English barn wood.
2. Happy snaps of color – Even if you love neutrals in your home, try adding snaps of bright colors as reminders of happy bright joyful tropical florals. You can do this with throw pillows, vases, books, rugs or throws. My personal favorite “happy snap” is fuchsia!
Tumblr media
3. Classic details – Think about adding a new built-in or furniture piece with some classic soft lines. I love a mix of modern and classic, it really warms up a space.
4. Declutter. Everyone loves hotel rooms because they have that blank slate/feng shui feel. I try to mimic this in my own bedroom. It feels so good to get rid of stuff you don’t need. You don’t have to go full-Kondo on it, but you can donate a few bags of stuff for an instant dose of positivity.
Tumblr media
5. Add some texture! Rattan, rope, seagrass…I love it all. These materials can work inside or outside. I am slightly obsessed with oversized lanterns by Amanda Lindroth and have used them in many of my homes.
6. Statement Backsplash. The easiest and quickest way to refresh a kitchen or bathroom! Choose a tile that is bold and fun, make a statement. It will totally transform the space.
Tumblr media
7. Spruce up your outdoor entrance. First impressions and curb appeal are everything and I love to switch things up periodically. Try painting your door a bold color, think about adding a chair or a small table and fabulous sconces. I recently found this service called Knock Knock where you can subscribe to have seasonal plant trays arranged stylishly and delivered to your door on a regular basis.
8. Light it Up! Switching out a chandelier or lamps can change a whole room. I think of light fixtures as works of art and love to switch things up.

Tumblr media
MEET THE ARTIST
Always drawn to the beauty of the sea and nature, Boston-born Susan Lister Locke mastered metalsmithing in schools and workshops in the States and Italy. She channels her passion, combined with inspiration drawn from Art Deco, Van Gogh, Klimt and Cartier, to craft the most exquisite jewelry pieces worn by celebrities, public figures and others worldwide.
Susan, who was voted the coveted Best Jeweler on Nantucket in 2017, 2018 and 2019, designs her breathtaking pieces as works of art; beautiful, unique and timeless. She works with 18 karat gold and other precious metals, some encrusted with handpicked, vibrant gemstones scouted from across the globe. She exhibits her artistry at The Susan Lister Locke Gallery on Nantucket and at Mary Mahoney in Palm Beach, Florida, as well as on 1stdibs.com and, of course, susanlisterlocke.com.
Tumblr media
FEATURED PIECES Susan’s love of nature is reflected in her patterns and designs. Her latest piece titled Stella Marina (Star of the Sea) is a museum quality, heirloom-inspired bib necklace. This 18k gold piece shimmers with diamonds and other gifts from the sea. A large, diamond encrusted starfish is the focal point, surrounded by sand dollars, smaller starfish, a turtle, a seahorse and gold coins aka, her signature “sea”quins, and finished with a finely detailed sand dollar clasp.
Stella Marina is the pièce de résistance of The Seaquin Collection, which features pieces also crafted in 18k gold and inspired by sea treasures including oyster and scallop shells, treasured doubloons and gemstones that reflect the colors of summer including Paraiba Tourmaline, multi-colored Sapphires, Australian and Mexican Opals, Tanzanite and Diamonds.

ABOUT CAMERON SILVER
King of Vintage + Decades Found and Author + Fashion Director of H Halston & H by Halston
Since fashion philanthropist Cameron Silver opened the doors of Decades in 1997, the dress code in Los Angeles has irrevocably changed due – in large part – to Silver exhorting his frequently-photographed, trendsetting clientele to “dress up!” He is widely recognized for his impact on runway trends from fashion’s new generation of designers in New York and Paris to the way a constellation of Hollywood’s brightest appear on the red carpet. “I think of fashion, of dressing, as art. I’m not about disposable shopping. Even my day wear is glamour,” stated Silver.

Our Pink Paradise Launch Party Recap!
OMG! It’s hard to believe nearly a month has passed by since we launched The Scout Guide Palm Beach, Volume 8! We're so excited to share some photos of the night, but also wanted to give a BIG shoutout to a few AMAZING people and vendors who made our Pink Paradise party such a hit!
We’ll kick this off by thanking our gracious host, The Colony Palm Beach, for not only providing us with their gorgeous outdoor space and delicious nibbles, but also for providing us with all of the #PinkParadise inspo! The creative genius, Bruce Sutka of Sutka Visual Design, WOWED us by making all of our pink dreams come true! From the oversized paper florals, to the pink carpet, to balloon garland, not a detail was missed! Our stunning florals were courtesy of another local visionary, Tom Mathieu. A special thanks to JM Event Group for giving us light!
As you’re well aware, no one captures TSG PB content quite like Nick Mele, so we were so happy to have him behind the lens! We also had Kent Anderson of Kilo Content filming the feat. Be sure to check out the fabulous video he put together in the Launch Party highlight on our Insta page!
We were so lucky to have the multi-talented Erica Dunhill on-site personalizing our attendees’ Scout Guides with her beautiful calligraphy. It wouldn’t have been a party without Palm Beach’s favorite, DJ Adam Lipson, spinning his signature tunes! Our guests stayed hydrated with signature *pink* cocktails, thanks to our alcohol sponsors, Steel Tie Spirits and Out East Wines.
The Royal Poinciana Plaza graciously lent us their, you guessed it, PINK Moke to shepherd in copies of Volume 8 for the big reveal. Ooh! And we can’t forget about the baby monkeys, yes, baby monkeys!
And, last, but certainly not least, THANK YOU to all of our partners and the Palm Beach community at large for your enthusiasm and support!!

Q+A with Christy Hamilton of Hydra Wellness
Today we’re chatting with Christy Hamilton, the entrepreneur behind the island’s latest luxury health & wellness stop, Hydrá Wellness, located at 114 N. County Road in Palm Beach.
Tumblr media
TSG: As Hydra Wellness the first of its kind in Palm Beach, do you mind telling us a little bit more about IV Therapy?
Christy: IV Therapy is a proactive treatment for obtaining optimal health and wellness. It can give you that extra boost if you’re already feeling like you’re at the top of your game or it can be used as a support tool if you’re fatigued or a bit under the weather.  Using an IV is a safe and effective way to get hydrated very quickly by giving key vitamins and nutrients direct access to your bloodstream. As much as 50% of what we intake orally can fail to be absorbed, while vitamins and nutrients delivered via IV are 100% absorbed.
TSG: What are the health benefits of IV Therapy?
Christy: According to our clients, IV Therapy can help with: Hydration, Beautification, Counteract fatigue or travel, Immunity, Used as a ‘Hangover cure’, Athletic + Executive Performance, Mental Acuity and Anti-aging
TSG: Tell us a little bit about the operation. What services do you offer?
Christy: Hydra offers a curated menu of IV blends all created by our Medical Director, Dr. Tina Discepola, who specializes in functional medicine. We also offer optional ‘boosts’ of additional ingredients that may be added to the IV. All services are administered by one of our experienced Registered Nurses.
We also offer mobile services, where we’ll administer our services in the convenience of your home or hotel room. We’ve also seen a trend in having IV Therapy stations at large events, such as birthdays or bridal parties.
TSG: Why did you decide to open in Palm Beach?
Christy: I’m a Florida native, having grown-up in nearby Vero Beach, so I have many friends and family living in the area. I also went to the University of Florida and am a proud Florida Gator! I also noticed the local market was surprisingly a little slow to adopt the treatment. South Florida, in particular, Palm Beach, is a place where residents and visitors are tuned-in to the benefits of an active lifestyle and taking care of yourself is part of the day-to-day routine. It felt like Palm Beach was really ready for the next wave of alternative wellness options.
TSG: What’s your background? What led you to IV Therapy?
Christy: I’ve worked for health and wellness companies for over 10 years and was a regular IV customer before opening Hydrá Wellness. I was traveling a lot and looking for ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle when I was very busy and not always able to keep up with my regular routine ‘on the road’. I found IV therapy as a way to boost my immune system and maintain hydration despite having a crazy schedule.
TSG: What’s your favorite drip and why?
Personally, I love “The Glow”, which contains Biotin, vitamins and minerals to help you ‘glow from the inside out’. It contains my favorite ingredient, Glutathione, a fantastic antioxidant to help detox you at the cellular level. I honestly feel as though my face is glowing for couple of days each time I get the treatment!
TSG: We’re in the midst of flu season. Do you have any tips to fight it off?
Christy: All of the basics ring true! Hand washing, sleep, proper nutrition and drinking plenty of fluids can help. It’s also an ideal time of year to start a vitamins or supplement routine if you don’t already have one. Not surprisingly, our Immune Boost IV full of Vitamin C and Zinc is very popular this time of year!
