what the andi mack characters are doing during quarantine

andi: she’s using this time to be making crafts and is giving out masks to her friends and family. she’s also making another project about racial stereotypes because of this virus

buffy: she says she’s not scared but is actually TERRIFIED and just wants to go outside

cyrus: in major panic mode. he will not stop washing his hands and is basically wearing a full on hazmat suit. he really misses his friends and is constantly wearing a hoodie of TJ’s

jonah: he is using this time to connect with his emotions and is learning more about himself and what he loves. he and his family have been watching old home videos to keep them sane and happy

cece: she is going HARDCORE! if anyone knocks on her door, she automatically sprays them with disinfectant and is also wearing what’s basically a hazmat suit

bex and bowie: they keep trying to make fun activities like themed dinners and mini living room concerts. they’ve also watched everything on netflix and disney+

TJ: he’s trying to convince cyrus to break quarantine because he really wants to cuddle and have a date but cyrus will not budge.

amber: she’s still working but wears a mask and gloves. she’s been quarantined with her toxic family which is really hard but she’s been using this time to try and get her parents to get along better, it’s not going too well but anything’s worth a shot

marty: i’m pretty sure he has the virus but won’t admit to it. he’s also breaking quarantine because i feel like he’s the type of person to do that.

So back in the middle of s3, there was this analysis of the muffin story line and the symbolism of it in regards to the Tyrus story line. If you’ve never read it or haven’t read it in a while, it’s right here. I couldn’t find other examples, but I vaguely remember people theorizing that it would play into how Cyrus and TJ ultimately getting together. Basically, the idea was that Cyrus would take TJ’s advice for just going for it but in regards to them getting into a relationship.

Now that we’ve seen how it went down, we can see that wasn’t the case. Cyrus seemingly resigned himself to the fact that TJ didn’t like him romantically. And TJ was the one who ultimately made the first move. But looking back at the dialogue from 2x08: 

T: Walk to the muffin like you already own it. C: Then what do I do? T: Take the muffin. C: That’s it? T: Just don’t let anyone stand in your way.

In the case of their relationship, Kira was standing in their way. And she was primarily blocking TJ by manipulating him. But once he was able to stand up to her, he was able to start a relationship with Cyrus. And like how he encouraged Cyrus to reach out a grab a muffin, he had to work up the courage to take Cyrus’ hand.

In the end, TJ had to take his own advice and that’s what it took for Tyrus to happen.

Andi’s birthdays:

They always try to surprise her but fail miserably. Once, Andi even beat everyone to her own surprise party.

Because Andi gets them crafty things so often, they make their own crafts to give to her (although they also have other presents because those crafts usually fail).

Since Cece used to be super anti-junk food of any kind, they would always splurge on junk food for Andi’s birthday until they felt sick (then Cece would always later say, “I told you so.”). 

Pillow Forts are a must.

They always have a sleepover on Andi’s birthday and stay up as late as possible watching cheesy TV comedy shows that Andi adores. Cyrus is always the first to fall asleep while Buffy and Andi stay up playing Truth or Dare which usually involves drawing on Cyrus. 

Also, Buffy and Cyrus get up early to decorate Andi’s locker at school. Even though it’s not very artistic, she still appreciates it. 

Buffy’s birthdays:

Buffy always says she doesn’t want them to make a fuss out of her birthday, but she really does a little bit. Of course, Andi and Cyrus know this, so they always make sure to make her day special once school is over.

One year, Andi and Cyrus surprise her with tickets to a basket-ball game, but it ends with Cyrus getting smacked in the face with a rogue ball somehow and Andi eating a bad hotdog. After that incident, they all make a pact to never go to a sports event together for Buffy’s birthday. 

Usually, they’ll still do something that’s somewhat athletic. For instance, they once went to the trampoline park and then another time they went to play laser tag. 

She hates it when people sing happy birthday to her, so Andi and Cyrus try to get around it by singing things like “For (s)he’s a jolly good fellow.” Buffy tries to tune it out but always fails. 

Buffy appreciates really sentimental, meaningful gifts (which both of them are good at giving). She would rather have a stupid, homemade drawing of when they first met than a t-shirt. 

A lot of years, Andi and Cyrus had to comfort Buffy because her Mom wasn’t able to be there for her birthday. One time, they arranged a video call on her birthday as a surprise which to this day Buffy claims is the best birthday present she’s ever received. 

Cyrus’s birthdays:

Cyrus always hints at wanting surprise parties not so subtly. (”You know, I love surprises when they’re good surprises. Good surprises are so fun.”) 

Despite these hints, Cyrus still manages to actually be surprised whenever Andi and Buffy throw him a surprise party. Like, so surprised that he jumps into the air and yelps. 

Although Cyrus likes new things, he also likes to do the same things for his birthday. For instance, the three of them always go to the Shadyside museum for his birthday followed by an early dinner of baby taters at The Spoon. 

Cyrus loves and cherishes any gifts, but he especially loves cheesy gifts like a dinosaur pun shirt or a scrapbook of memories. 

He spends his actual birthday with his step-mother and father, the next day with his step-father and mother, and the day before his actual birthday is dedicated to spending it with his friends; therefore, he always calls his birthday a Triple Threat. 

They learn the hard way not to put candles on top of Cyrus’s cake when a small fire gets started in the kitchen.
