I saw a post about a trobed playlist by @trobedison I'm currently listening to it right now, and that made me want to share the one that I made as well, so here I am!

It started out as me imaginating a mixtape they would litteraly create but as I went on it basically became a mix of like the canon chronology of the series + some movies ost & music I assume they would like to listen to + some popular headcanons about them + some meta references (I mean it makes sense in my head but it's very confusing as I'm writing this lol)

annie likes jeff who likes britta who likes troy who likes abed who likes movies and tv. it’s tv, it’s comfort, it’s a friend you’ve known so well and for so long you just let it be with you. i love you. i know. maybe all relationships are made up of logical inspectors and emotional constables, and we need both to make space and time a better place. she can make babies for me. and i can’t? what if abed wants to replace me? it makes me so angry and sad all at the same time. it has to be ok for it to have a bad day or phone in a day. i’m not even your sidekick, i’m your underkick. you’re never going to find another friend because nobody else will ever have my patience with you. if you have to make a decision, i say go with what makes you the happiest. i would face my fears to help you. make me proud, troy, be the first black man to make it to the end. for the first time in my long history of being locked inside things, i knew someone would come. troy will hold on until he is broken emotionally. fortunately, this will not be hard. you were out there somewhere and you weren’t looking for me? i don’t think the lava is here because you’re leaving, i think it’s here because i won’t let go. and it has to be ok for it to get on a boat with levar burton and never come back. because eventually, it all will.

Something about Abed saying “it’s embarrassing” in Geothermal Escapism when he tells Troy he’s seeing real lava really gets to me. Because like, up to this point we have never once seen Abed be embarrassed or ashamed about who he is and how he interacts with the world around him. I’m sure he’s felt shame before, but we never see it because we only see him when he’s with the group, and they’re the people who accept him the most.

So when he admits to Troy that he’s embarrassed, it’s honestly jarring. Danny Pudi is so impressive for that scene because you can literally pinpoint the exact instant the whole facade disappears, and it’s just Abed. His first and only best friend and love of his life is leaving him and he can’t cope with it to the point that he’s seeing actual lava everywhere, and he’s embarrassed.

Idk this scene just really sticks out to me because it’s the most vulnerable we ever see Abed in the entire show. Most of the time we only ever see him as the magical elf-like man who uses movies and TV to connect to the world, and he is that. But he’s also a human being, and human beings can’t be magical and elf-like all the time. Some people perceive Abed as an emotionless robot, when in reality he has very strong emotions but is just very good at controling them. This is one of the few times where we see that control slip away.
