Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
Day 2 trekking. Our host mom made us crepes with honey and sliced pineapple. For lunch we stopped at a local house for ramen soup 😋We're tired and sore but this trip was well worth it.
Day 1 of trekking trip in Sa Pa Valley! After taking the night bus from 10pm - 6am, we arrived at Panorama Hotel, had breakfast, and got to trekking! We covered around 7.2 miles, walked amongst the rice patty fields, met locals and saw their home, joined school children cooling off in the river. Now we're spending the night with our homestay.
Back to where it all began, Hanoi! 😭Our trip has come full circle. We got Bun Cha (smoked noodle meat soup 😋) for lunch with our friend Stephen, whom was our first friend in Hanoi and now lives here.
When an earthquake created this land split in the 2000’s, it made farming land unusable. Now the farmer lets people explore it and try a variety of foods grown on the land and just asks for a donation in return. We were greeted by very friendly locals and recommend stopping by here!
Foods: Roselle wine, roselle tea, nuts, banana chips, roselle jam, tamarind, banana with honey, sweet potato with salt.
On our snorkeling tour with Shipwrecked, we also stopped by Maya Bay where The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed! No Leo sightings, but the scenery made up for it.
During our snorkeling tour day with Shipwrecked, we stopped by Monkey Bay to see the monkeys. Interestingly they like peanuts (while elephants liked bananas 🤔). While standing there, a monkey jumped from a tree onto Caroline's back. We think he liked her hair as he refused to let go and continued hanging off her head for a good while.
