Back in the ‘yak…
I had the day off today and enjoyed a solo trip to a small nearby lake.
More of this, Lord…

Two or three years ago, I was praying nearly every day for a canoe that Luke and I could enjoy together.
When I was younger, I enjoyed the experience of canoeing with my brother on the inner coastal waterway. When I was in my 20s and 30s I occasionally enjoyed competing with friends or by myself. So I thought a canoe would be just the thing for me and my boy. But it turns out that, nowadays, kayaking is more popular and enjoyable.
So a little over a year ago, I started searching for used kayaks.I eventually found a ten-footer for me and a six-footer for Luke and we were able to enjoy one outing at the end of last summer.
When this spring arrived, Luke and I went kayaking again, but I saw that he would soon be outgrowing that smaller kayak.
God has shown me that, while Maggie and I bonded over guitar and concerts, Luke and I will bond over the outdoors: camping, hiking, stargazing, fishing and... kayaking.
I told my Mom this and she agreed that this was probably true. I told her about Luke outgrowing his kayak and she has now given me money to pay for a ten-footer I found on sale at Wal-mart.
So... answered prayer.
I started praying for a boat nearly three years ago and we now have three kayaks in our garage. 🙂

I’ve wanted this for years. Today, I cleaned out the winter ashes and finally set up my fireplace candelabra.

Luke’s last Trick or Treat, 2019
He’s twelve and we feel that he’s outgrown trick or treating, so tonight we went on one last mini-walk around the neighborhood. He visited a dozen homes for candy and decided he was done and preferred to go on home and be the candy giver rather than the candy getter.

We spent the weekend with our friends, David and Patty, in Sneed’s Ferry, NC (near Topsail Island). While Maggie and I recorded music with David, Luke enjoyed time on the beach a went swimming. 🙂
