types of study breaks for every situation
if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.
if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.
if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

Self love can be getting rid of your smartphone if you notice the constant feeling of being digitally connected and always having to be available is what’s stressing you most. Self love can be quitting that course that is consuming all of your happiness, even though you really wanted to finish it this time. Self love can also be looking for help to actually be able to finish the course - a friend to talk to, a therapist, a tool to help you cope with stress better. Self love can be admitting you’re not doing well and you think you relapsed. Self love can be committing to handing in your tax report on time to reduce the anxiety it causes to finish it last minute, like you usually do. Self love can be getting out of this toxic relationship, finally saying no to your partner and yes to yourself and your wellbeing. Self love is learning to keep your own promises you have to yourself. Self love can be taking a bath and using this fancy bath bomb, yes, but more often it will be steps that are born based on insight, steps that will give you a peace of mind long term, even though in this very moment you don’t feel like taking them. The small steps of self love matter as much as the bigger ones. The bigger ones are in fact often many small steps added up.
Self love is not just temporarily doing what feels nice and what calms your nerves in a specific moment. Ask yourself this one very important question whenever you’re in doubt:
is this step that I’m about to take truly based on love for myself, or am I just temporarily trying to avoid pain/pressure/discomfort? Am I being aware of what I’m doing or am acting led by a pattern that I actually want to overcome? Is this truly good for me and my soul?
Allow yourself to take breaks. Allow yourself to reflect. To feel the emotions that want to be felt. Learn to read the signs and to listen to yourself. Rebuild the trust in your own decision making. It’s totally okay if you need help from someone to learn to listen to yourself again. It’s okay to ask for helping hands, open ears and shoulders to cry on. You got this. I believe in you 100%.

hello! school can be very stressful and pressurizing, and more often that not you’ll be coming home to even more work. i’ve brought together some tips and advice for de stressing after a long day, both metally and physically. here is my advice for relaxing/de-stressing:
sleeping! - sleeping is a great way to look go of everything for a little while. not only are you relaxing your body, but you’re also entering a more peaceful state of mind, so it’s an ideal way to slip out to reality for a while!
exercise! - we all need those endorphins, and the easiest way is to exercise! it doesn’t even have to be anything hardcore, maybe fifty star jumps, or running up and down a flight of stairs for five minutes. my favourite way is dancing! exercise takes your mind off of other things and helps you to focus on what you’re doing at the moment.
doing something you enjoy - whether it’s just listening to music or reading a book, or something more like designing, go ahead and do it! doing something you enjoy will make you happier and more relaxed. i personally like drawing!
drinking tea - especially chamomile tea! it’s extremely calming. warm tea puts my mind into a more calm state - and having a biscuit or two is an added bonus.
pampering yourself - don’t forget to give time to yourself. whether it’s having a bath or painting your nails - so long as it makes you feel better about yourself! self care is so, so important, always remember to love yourself and who you are.
watching a show - i mean, fangirling/boying is like the most fun thing
tips to help you feel less stressed:
get anywork you get done and over with on the same day it is set - you’ll be much more free if you get it done quickly + that’s one less thing to worry about
having a tidy/clean work space - less mess, much more clear mind. your mind will be less stuffy and you’ll have more more space both in your head, and your surroundings
talking with others - i’ve found that being stressed by myself is much more harder compared to when i’m with others. talking everything out with other people will remove some of that burden you may feel, or completely take your mind off of it. i found that studying with my sister before a test was much more fun than stressing by myself, she ended up cracking a lot of jokes and made the atmosphere much more light, whicn was a big help for me (and my brain definitely thanked her too!)
i hope these tips have helped you. remember to always give yourself time and space. your mental health is much more important than your grades. always give credit to yourself, and celebrate your effort. i love you, and i know you’re going to do amazing!
if you have any other tips, please send them in! i’d love to share more ideas!
- mia <3
