u.s. election season

just a couple small things now that trump is basically the official GOP nominee:

bernie might stay in the race for a little while now, esp after his big upset in indiana, but he can’t win. some people will say he should drop out, others will say he should stay in, but keep in mind that this is all ideological, symbolic stuff. hillary will be the nominee. 

you can criticize clinton all you want after november (i know i will), but if this is your first election, keep in mind that the rules are different for the next few months. you have to compromise your ideals in order to get behind a candidate. you aren’t allowed to give fodder to the other side. it sucks. 

even if it looks like hillary will definitely get the win, criticism is heightened into vitriol in an election season, and if the GOP manages to poison enough people against hillary before she’s even in office, we’re going to see four years of intense DC gridlock. 

the GOP is flat out racist, and that’s one of the main reasons obama faced such disproportionate push back. they are also incredibly sexist, and they will not respect clinton as a president and they will fuck with her and stop her from getting shit through unless you also vote for your state’s democratic senate/house of rep candidates. 

there are 34 senate elections this november, and 24 of those are for republican controlled seats. the senate is just as important as the presidency in a lot of ways. most states are voting, but this website can give you more information. currently, it’s a republican controlled senate, which means even if clinton wins she’ll be facing an uphill climb once in office. there will also be house elections…same problem, same solution.

do not trust election polls. they are pointless. they are very bad at predicting shit. look for long, boring articles that cite hard numbers. 

florida is just as important this year as it is in every election year

once again! and i cannot stress this enough!! register to vote, even if your state is not a swing state, because you will also be voting for members of the congressional branch!!!!! very important!!

the media is gonna push a narrative of uncertainty. they are going to make it sound like trump and clinton are neck and neck, like trump has a very good chance of winning. the media is a business, and they’re going to do what makes money. 

it’s extremely unlikely that this election will be neck and neck. clinton is probably going to win by a large margin. 

trump’s rhetoric is probably going to lead to a rise in hate crimes against a number of people, mainly muslim and latinx americans but probably other groups as well. protect yourself, and protect your friends.
