This is a Guillermo de la Cruz fan playlist- I tried to make it very upbeat and a little cheesy, but desperately romantic with kind of an unhinged undertone. Song list with analysis under the cut
I love the Night- Blue Oyster Cult
This is a straightforward song about falling in love with a vampire and being turned into a vampire. I thought it was an excellent place to start, because it’s where he started- A vampire came to him, and he followed.
Blue Collar man- Styx
This idea made me laugh. It’s also got some good body-disposing montage energy. A song for a little gay man toiling the hours away.
Fool’s Paradise- Oingo Boingo
This is a song about the horrors of capitalism, but in this context serves as an unhinged downward spiral into the realization that it’s very likely that he’s wasting his time, and that this is a stupid line of work.
Barracuda- Heart
Vampire ass-kicking song. Also serves as a great song about an old and frustrated crush.
Cool Blue- Eurythmics
Obsessive crush song! They hate to see a boytoy winning. “How could she fall for a boy like that” indeed
Gold Guns Girls- Metric
In my mind, I have pictured the theatre massacre set to the “more and more” portion of this song. It’s probably my favorite song on the playlist and the biggest nandermo representation on it. It’s about being frustrated, under-appreciated, and hopelessly in love, and wondering if it will ever, ever be enough.
I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)- Hall and Oates
This is funny. Come on, you laughed. A song about putting your foot down and setting your limits, even for someone you love dearly.
When do I Get to Sing ‘My Way’- Sparks
This was the first addition to this playlist, and my favorite Guillermo song. I think it very much ties up the unappreciated, steadily growing more frustrated, stagnant feelings that Guillermo deals with daily- whether it be about becoming a vampire, or about the relationship limbo he finds himself stuck in with Nandor.
