#i tend to debate my father on politics a lot#i dont like to as we're on opposite sides of most things#but my dad likes to hear about my thoughts on things and i get very fed up when i hear shit that is just. awful#anyway. we had a decent conversation not that long ago wherein we were discussing trans/human rights etc.#dad gave the normal response along the lines of “they dont need extra rights. we're all human. why do they need more” or something like that#my response was like “i havent researched it. but to my knowledge a big rights thing would be medical based. transitions and meds surgeries”#“oh” my dad goes “i didnt think about it from a medical perspective. that actually makes more sense”#i forget the exact reason why we were having the discussion. but im glad that maybe i got my dad to be a lil more understanding

I mean I know a certain level of projection on fictional characters and situations is inevitable and even healthy, but sometimes you got to step back into the real world to remind yourself that Character X is not your shitty parent/abusive ex/asshole boss/bully from high school, and that people who like Character X are not personally victimizing you.
