I've been wondering this for a while but, since personality assignment is such an important part of the game, how would you go about writing a society that operates similar to Tomodachi Life?
Ooo yes, I love this, let's go!
What are the personalities to this society?
Let's look at the information given in the in-game townhall. I think it's interesting that personality is viewed as just as important as the mii's "legal name", date of birth, age, and sex. (Also the "creator" part of the profile certainly holds implications, but we'll get to that later).
Seeing this is information in the town hall, it makes me wonder if personality categories differ from community to community.
This is already kind of true country wise because different versions of the game uses different personality classifications, sometimes outright switching the vibes, descriptions, or color schemes of certain personalities, and sometimes even titles.
For instance, in Japan the personalities are entirely different from the ones in different parts of the world. Overall the personality categories are Outgoing (Energetic in Europe), Easygoing, Confident, and Independent (Reserved in Europe). Yet, the categories in Japan are Fun, Calm, Dry, and Cool. Some of the descriptions still fit and can be linked to descriptions from other versions, while some feel very different, in my opinion.
Still, overall the four categories have the same ideas, one being for individuals more willing to put themselves out there, one for more down to Earth individuals, one for more serious individuals, and one for more asocial individuals.
However, it is difficult to figure out, based on the game, why this personality system would be so significant to this society. But having a "personality chart" as the mayor of your island implies there is some significance to the categorization, it's just a bit unclear what.
After all, things like the compatibility tests aren't really supposed to be taken seriously and don't affect gameplay. Then again, what I've noted before just points to these personalities as classifications, and that a mayor may be worried about ensuring there is diversity within this classification or that the needs of each group are being met. It shows a desire to not only meet a community's physical needs, but their emotional ones as well.
I'd say, as a society, it really is just a classification like any, but one that society itself has decided to put a lot of emphasis on due to reading too much into short personality descriptions. Just the same way that people have assumptions or expectations based on someone's sex.
So, socially, you get things like compatibility tests, stereotyping based on personality, and, if we're reaching outside of what the game shows, I wouldn't be surprised if there's websites and books like "how to date an independent lone wolf", "how to parent an Easygoing Softie", etc. And you can't tell me some parents wouldn't try and gear their children towards certain personality types they see as more desirable. We already have that with zodiacs and MBTI, but in this case it'd be the norm of the society.
Categorization
I personally believe that personality categorization is done on a smaller level, considering you as the mayor are effectively making these decisions. But it'd really be up to interpretation if the personalities used are the same on a large scale, or are different from community to community.
Therefore, if we go with what the gameplay is implying, characters are assigned their personalities upon becoming a resident somewhere, in this case an island but let's say the same is true of towns, cities, etc. by the mayor themselves. The mayor may occasionally check in with residents to see if this assessment is accurate, and change the person's personality categorization accordingly.
If you want to get really dystopian and sci-fi, if one was to write this idea, it could easily be about a world in which the mayor of your town can completely program your personality on a whim and has the ultimate authority to do so. That would explain why character personalities immediately switch the moment you change this classification. And also the whole "creator" thing definitely gives me "robots that can be programed" vibes.
But, taking a more societal approach, peer pressure to fit into certain roles, personalities being a difficult thing to pin down in a classification to begin with, and characters naturally changing through just different experiences throughout their lives could explain the change as well.
Summary
If one is to take most of the game elements at face value, you're looking at one of two stories. One, a story where an all powerful God can decide the personalities of their creations with the drop of a hat, or two, a story where people can be programmed like robots, and in fact are programmed like robots (or are robots) to fit into their specific country's, region's, etc. set of personalities
I believe the latter makes more sense with the way the personality system works.
But, I am personally more interested in the societal side of things, with a society obsessed with personality categories to the point it affects how someone views themselves and others. I also think it being something decided on a community basis is interesting, since someone might end up in a community that doesn't have the right personality type to classify them.
Those were just my thoughts, thanks for the interesting question! It was a lot of fun to answer. /gen

Adam and Vox: Compatibility
I am going to start making compatibility posts, and who better to start with then my beloved boys? This is specifically based on my versions of them in my AU, so keep this in mind.
Confident Adventurer + Independent Lone Wolf
Communication💬
Adam and Vox have very different ways of expressing their ideas, which can cause confusion and conflict.
Lone Wolves may struggle to express themselves in ways that are direct, which Adventurers can find annoying and difficult to parse through. Meanwhile, Adventurers can be so simple and blunt that Lone Wolves find it difficult to have an emotional conversation with them. Think poetry versus a casual text.
In the same vein, but reversed, because Lone Wolves don't always show their emotions outwardly, Adventurers sometimes feel like, during emotionally charged conversations, they're talking to an unexpressive wall.
It is important for both parties to understand the other's communication style, but also be willing to bend a little to reach a good in between.
Similarities/Differences✨
These types do have some similarities. Both are interested in doing their own thing rather than following the crowd and, as a result, can struggle with stubbornness.
However, these types have more differences than similarities. Adventurers are all about outward action, while Lone Wolves focus on navigating and organizing their internal thoughts.
These things combined can cause Adventurers and Lone Wolves to go in entirely different directions without realizing it, and lead to misunderstandings or arguments.
Relationship Potential💞
Mentor: They both have the potential to serve as a mentor to each other. As an Adventurer, Adam can help Vox develop the confidence to be more risk taking and trust in his own instincts. As a Lone Wolf, Vox can help show Adam how important thinking before acting can be.
Friends: As friends, Adam would bring a lot of excitement and energy to the relationship, while Vox would bring thoughtfulness and perspective. They'd both need to be open to the others' personality quirks. Adam would need to be open to the fact that, sometimes, Vox takes longer to process things and needs his alone time. Vox would need to be open to the fact that Adam follows his whims and hates feeling too constrained.
Lovers: As lovers, Adam would be adventurous and willing to try new things, while Vox would take the time to deeply understand and appreciate Adam. However, Adam may need to learn to slow down at times so as not to overwhelm Vox or make him feel left behind. Vox may need a little encouragement and reminders to make his internal thoughts external to keep Adam in the loop as well.

As I write and develop my AU more, I actually want to go back on how I typed these two entirely. I write and view both of them with different complexities that change my sorting of them. I'll start with Vox, then move on to Adam (always the easier of the two to sort lol).
There is still plenty of truth when it comes to Vox being an Artist or Free Spirit. Vox's entire arc is about rebellion, but neither the description for Artist or Free Spirit properly reflect how he interacts with the world.
For one, Vox can be quite pessimistic and, even if he is quite good at seeing the unique beauty in others, it isn't an overall worldview. Furthermore, his drive to create isn't driven by this and is, rather, driven by the desire to survive and succeed. Vox secretly roots for the underdog because he's been there, but that doesn't mean he sees everything as beautiful, its quite the opposite. As for Free Spirit, Vox is not laid back in the least, and does not go with the flow by any stretch of the imagination.
Rather, Vox is rebellious because he can be so calculated and notice or see things that others wouldn't. Still, I stand by my perspective that he fits somewhere in the Independent category.
This means Vox would most likely either be a Thinker or a Lone Wolf. So let's look at both, shall we?
Thinker:
Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box. Thoughtful and introspective. Great at thinking things all the way through and analyzing issues from every angle.
This description could very well fit Vox. He sees solutions or perspectives that others do not, and he can sometimes get lost in his own thoughts or become paralyzed unless he feels properly prepared.
Introspective may be a stretch, though he can be thoughtful in his own unique ways. However, he can get so caught up in his own perspective that he struggles to completely or properly analyze a situation (even if he thinks he has). He also is known for being rash when he's upset.
Lone Wolf:
Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box. Self-sufficient and highly individual. Doesn't show a lot of outward emotion, but has a lot going on deep down.
I believe that Lone Wolf fits Vox best. Vox's main traits in the AU are being unique, independent, and more complex than he appears on the surface. Throughout the AU, he has to learn how to rely on others and open up more to those around him.
Moving on, Adam's is the easiest, but it's also the most interesting because he is jumping from the Outgoing category to the Confident category. Here is my reasoning for this:
Adam's biggest flaw is that he struggles socially. Yes, he is open, blunt, and he says exactly how he feels. Yet, this often makes others see him as harsh and hard to connect to. Which brings me to my next point, socially connecting to others isn't really Adam's goal. Rather, Adam wants things to be done right and he will speak up if they are not being done right. Yet, he also tends to be so focused on his own point of view that he sees his way as the right way. Adam can come off as a downer in that way, even if he means well.
Thus, I would type AU Adam as a Confident Adventurer:
Organized, motivated, focused. Tackles any challenge head-on, and has great faith in their own abilities. Risk taking and ambitious. Full of energy, and does almost everything on a whim. Once started, nobody can stop them!
At his best, Adam reaches for the stars and takes risk. He is most definitely full of energy and does seem to follow his whims more often than not. He is stubborn and it is difficult to talk him out of any course of action he's decided to take.
From your own AU (@leedollop) what would Adam and Vox's personality be then? Or which personality fits how they are both displayed?
Oooo! I'll admit, this is a bit of a tricky one, especially for Vox who is slowly coming into his more genuine self. But I'll do my best!
Starting with Adam, I will return to my original comment made on this post. The Outgoing personality Adam falls under the best can depend on the circumstance and the person he's with. That being said, I think the Leader personality represents a very assertive role. However, within the AU, Adam fluctuates more between an assertive and passive role, especially with Vox, when the situation calls for either. I believe what best fits that is Outgoing Entertainer:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Bold and captivating. Able to light up a room with their wit and charm. There's never a dull moment when they're around.
Adam brings his charm, energy, and optimism to every situation and crisis he encounters. He helps others let loose and have fun, and he isn't afraid to let his confidence show or gain the admiration of others.
As for Vox, my first instinct is, within the AU, Vox shows himself to have an Independent personality constantly trying to peek through:
Creative, self-reliant, somewhat reserved. Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box.
Not only can Vox be quite creative, but he prefers to rely on himself and can be a bit more than "somewhat reserved" when it comes to aspects of himself or around people he doesn't know very well. Though Vox being such a good speaker can disguise this, his inner thoughts showcase his true feelings. At his best, Vox thinks outside of the box compared to others and enjoys doing his own thing over following the trends that used to rule his life.
There's two personalities within this category I believe could suit him: Artist and Free Spirit. So let's look at them both individually and go into the reasons why both might fit. Staring with the Artist...
Imaginative and inspired. Happiest when creating something. Able to find beauty in everyone and everything around them.
As I said earlier, not only is Vox a creative person, but he also is happiest when creating something or having something to occupy his brain with. A large part of his character in the AU is also that he finds unique beauty in others, sometimes to his detriment but also to his great benefit.
Next is Free Spirit...
Unique, carefree, and creative. Laid back and does things their own way. Self-reliant and always thinking way outside the box.
I have to take away points for the description "laid back". Vox can certainly be laid back about some things, but I wouldn't consider it his default setting. That being said, I appreciate the second emphasis on self reliant because it is such a major part of AU Vox's character. Vox prefers to do things his way over following the status quo or other's expectations, and his main struggle within the AU is accepting that part of himself and the benefits of his own unique qualities.
Because of this, I think Free Spirit fits best. Vox's main arc is giving into his free spirited energy, so it just feels fitting.

In the AU, how do you think Vox and Adam play off each other on a personality level?
Ooooo! Thank you so much, this is a fun one!
So, Outgoing Entertainer versus Independent Freespirit. Personality wise they're not exact opposites, but the way they showcase these personalities certainly makes it feel that way.
As an Entertainer, Adam is extremely outgoing, loving to meet new people. He is confident in his own awesomeness and doesn't feel the need to suppress it, seeing being himself as spreading hope and joy. Adam keeps things simple, he is focused on the high of the moment and enjoying life to its fullest!
As a Freespirit, Vox prefers his select group of friends and partners, and is slow to meet new people. Vox isn't as confident in himself because his unique nature causes others to view him as a troublemaker or unpleasant. Vox is seen as an enigma because he doesn't really follow one train of thought when it comes to himself, enjoying jumping from a variety of interests and roles.
Therefore, Adam is often confused by Vox's lack of confidence, and Vox is confused by some of the social rules Adam understands that Vox does not. Adam sometimes struggles to understand Vox due to his complexities, and Vox sometimes overcomplicates Adam despite Adam keeping things simple.
Their goals in any situation are also ultimately different. Adam wants to have a good time and for those around them to have a good time, Vox wants to be able to comfortably express himself and encourage others to do the same. The two goals can certainly go hand in hand, though can occasionally come into conflict when Adam doesn't understand Vox's unique version of fun.

Since you're spreading out to Miitopia personalities, what would the personality be for Vox, Adam, Lee, and Lizzy?
Additionally, what class or role would they play?
They're technically called quirks, I've just learned, and there's only seven of them, which can make it easier to sort some characters and harder to sort others. But, I'll do my best!
Vox is tricky, but I'd probably pick the quirk stubborn. He gets back up and doesn't give in until he's done, it's one of his best qualities. His job would of course be imp, it just fits him so well lol.
Cool would be Adam's without a doubt, from not being affected from certain statuses to successfully targeting enemies. The best job for him would also be pop star, considering he uses his guitar to fight.
Lee's quirk would probably be kind. He finds some of the enemies cute and wants to spare them, along with helping his friends. His job would be mage. It's always been what suits him best.

Can you elaborate what you mean by the "darker side" of each category?
Sure! I personally believe each category can either display itself in a very positive light, something in between, or a very negative light depending on the character. As some examples...
Outgoing types can be so much so that they never have any true friends, just fleeing from one new person to the next. Or they may over extend themselves. A friend to all is a friend to none, as they say.
Easygoing types could also be too relaxed about things that they never dedicate themselves to a task or let themselves be treated poorly.
Confident types could showcase this through having too big of an ego that shuts them out from new ideas.
Independent types could be completely asocial to the point they have no real connections, or so independent that they take on the brunt of everything.
So, essentially, every category, and I'd argue every type, has its shadow.

Can I get the personalities of Vox, Adam, and Angel Dust from HH?
Angel Dust has technically already been sorted and you can find that post here. I still agree with that assessment, though as the series goes on I can see him fitting into a more Charmer role over Entertainer, seeing as the Entertainer side of him is a part of his persona. But, as for the others...
For Vox, I am going to give you two answers. One that fits what we've mostly seen thus far in canon and one that fits what I believe Vox's actual personality is like based on the hints we've seen of it.
The very obvious answer for the first is Outgoing Trendsetter:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Radiant and always on form. Has an effortless style that is admired by all. Able to easily adapt to new situations.
Vox is not only extremely good at charming others, but he is the one people follow when it comes to the latest trends in technology, and Vox tries to pretend to adore the attention. He is also able to make decisions in the moment that best benefit him, though it is clear he has to put in the effort when it comes to his PR mask.
However, behind the persona, we see Vox's personality is far more sardonic and sometimes blunt to the point it can be off putting to others. He's more asocial than he looks, though still craves interaction and approval from others, which would make me say Vox without the persona is a Confident Designer:
Tackles any challenge head-on, and has great faith in their own abilities. Diligent, productive, and highly efficient. A master at coming up with a plan and putting that plan into action.
Vox's ability to manipulate others, even himself, comes from his ability to think ahead, and he always seems to be working in one way or another, even if it isn't always obvious. Yet, Vox's scheming can have a damper put on it when he feeds into the darker side of the Confident category. This being allowing his rage or frustration to make him become cocky and, in the case of Stayed Gone, he ends up showing way too many of his cards.
Adam is a bit tricky because most of the outgoing personalities fit him quite well in one way or another. We could argue he's an Outgoing Trendsetter because not only is it difficult to fluster Adam because he goes with the flow, Adam also clearly enjoys others admiring or emulating him. His love of fun could very easily make him an Outgoing Entertainer, absolutely lighting up any room he's in and becoming the center of attention. His positive attitude and sociability could also make him an Outgoing Charmer. Finally, he also fits the role of an Outgoing Leader because he is assertive, has a lot of respect within Heaven, and follows his own instincts and beliefs.
I think Adam is the perfect example of a character that plays within a category more than he does a personality. Sort of like how character archetypes can have different facets to them, Adam imbodies the personalities in the outgoing category depending on the situation or even the individual who he's with.
That being said, I think, overall, Outgoing Entertainer and Leader fit Adam the best on a more personal level. Adam has the confidence to want to be in the spotlight and he tries to make things more entertaining or fun by doing so. At the same time, and when situations are more serious, he takes on the role of an Outgoing Leader, demanding respect and being unafraid to put his foot down when his instincts are telling him something is not a good idea.
Personally, considering the other characters that fit into the role Entertainer, I believe Outgoing Leader in a more lighthearted sense would fit Adam:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Assertive and highly regarded. Has great faith in their own instincts, and has no trouble commanding the respect of others.
Not only does Adam effortlessly take charge when the situation calls for it, but he's also the one often commanding the energy of a room or pushing other's headfirst into fun. When Adam's instincts tell him something, he has no issues following those instincts, and his self confidence empowers him to demand respect from others.

Gifts each type would like for Valentine's Day?
I am super late to this, but... (I attempted to keep it vague whether the gift is romantic or platonic).
Outgoing Trendsetter: Something that's uniquely striking, but still fashionable, like chocolates in a unique shape or a very eye catching type of flower they can brag about and make everyone want!
Outgoing Entertainer: A funny gag gift like a silly looking stuffed animal.
Outgoing Charmer: Something the person noticed the Charmer secretly wanted, being used to pleasing others so much.
Outgoing Leader: A gift that is given in appreciation for all they do, or someone following by their example.
Easygoing Softie: Something cute like a stuffed animal or that gives them comfort during these times.
Easygoing Optimist: They'd be pretty pumped to get just about anything, so long as it comes from the heart!
Easygoing Buddy: Something that is meaningful to the sender in regards to how they feel about the Buddy.
Easygoing Dreamer: Something that is a really sweet but sort of out of this world gesture, like a huge bouquet of flowers or them being invited out somewhere special.
Independent Free Spirit: Probably nothing. I can't see them being too into the holiday, and they would happily receive or give gifts to show their affection for lovers or friends during any holiday or season.
Independent Artist: Something the person made. Even if it's not good per say, to them it's the beautiful effort that counts.
Independent Lone Wolf: Something that shows the other person truly knows who they are deep down.
Independent Thinker: I can't see them being big fans of the holiday either, but well thought out gifts would still touch their hearts. I could see them enjoying more practical gifts, like a new kitchen appliance to help them make the treats associated with the holiday.

@mrslitmus For my OC Felicia Harbor:
She's a bit pessimistic and playful, sharp and clever, but good hearted all the same.
Based off this information, I'd type here as an Independent Artist:
Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box. Imaginative and inspired. Happiest when creating something. Able to find beauty in everyone and everything around them.
She has the sharpness and independence of an Independent type, but the kind heart of an Artist.

Sorry it took me so long, but I'd say he's an Outgoing Entertainer because he likes to put on a show:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily.
Bold and captivating. Able to light up a room with their wit and charm. There's never a dull moment when they're around.
I wanna type more characters, so. Give me the name of your F/O, their source, a description, and even a picture if you want, and I'll tell you want Tomodachi Life personality they fit best.

I believe she'd be an Outgoing Charmer based on your description:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Outgoing and extremely pleasant to be around. Able to make friends easily and turn almost any problem into a positive situation.
She seems to enjoy bolstering others up, along with making friends with those around her using her sweet and upbeat personality.
I wanna type more characters, so. Give me the name of your F/O, their source, a description, and even a picture if you want, and I'll tell you want Tomodachi Life personality they fit best.

Which personalities do you think would fit these types of F/Os:
The strong type with a secret heart of gold.
The adorable and energetic goofball.
The stern but damaged type.
The flirtatious and confident type.
Independent Lone Wolf, since they can hide their true feelings deep down:
Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box. Self-sufficient and highly individual. Doesn't show a lot of outward emotion, but has a lot going on deep down.
Probably Outgoing Entertainer, since they want to make those around them happy:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Bold and captivating. Able to light up a room with their wit and charm. There's never a dull moment when they're around.
Independent Thinker would probably be the closest to this for a specific type, but any Independent type might do:
Comfortable doing their own thing and thinking outside the box. Great at thinking things all the way through and analyzing issues from every angle.
Outgoing Trendsetter takes me as confident, flirty, and fun:
Comfortable in almost any situation, and makes new connections easily. Radiant and always on form. Has an effortless style that is admired by all. Able to easily adapt to new situations.

What would Atlas say about the personalities of his main workers and Mitzi?
Mordecai Heller Independent Lone Wolf
Not only does he hide his true feelings from others, but he hides them from himself as well. Though he pretends to have confidence, it is the one trait he truly lacks.
Silver Independent Artist
An optimist in a pessimist's clothing. He sees the beauty in everyone, but refuses to admit it due to how vulnerable that would make him appear.
Viktor Vasko Independent Lone Wolf
He and Mordecai are more similar than they think, hiding from their true emotions and desires. He only speaks in vague terms when he can manage.
Rocky Rickaby Independent Free Spirit
A social butterfly who truly just wants some peace. His desperate search for love and approval only leaves him yearning constantly.
Mitzi May Confident Go-Getter
On the outside she is a mere charmer with a good personality. On the inside, she has a bite so poisonous just ready to be deployed.
Ivy Pepper Outgoing Trendsetter
A young woman with true and genuine spunk. Though she has plenty of insecurities she is hiding as well.
Dorian Zibowski Easygoing Buddy
Underneath the depressing act, he cares for others more than he'd ever admit. Their perceived wrong doings are ones he takes responsibility for.
Horatio Bruno Easygoing Softie
Gentle and mild mannered, his lack of a judgmental attitude helps him continue to see the sympathetic in those around him, despite his career.
