Ladies and gentlemen
look what AWESOME composer Peter Connelly is preparing for us TRAOD fans

It’s about time I made a start on this, don’t you think :) I released this deleted scene several years ago, for the 10th Anniversary of AoD but it was with basic sound, i.e. VO and Music. I never got to finish it when at Core as it was deleted but I have said since I first released it in 2013 that I would properly craft the audio. What you see here is just the start
 - Peter Connelly, September 2016
Yes, you read well. He was the only one who cared about TRAOD 10th year anniversary and released this amazing FMV of Lara, Werner and Putai, and now he’s finishing it with the proper audio.
Thank you so much, Peter. You’re amazing and it’s awesome you still care for TRAOD and for us its fans, 13 years after, when no one does it anymore :’)

yeah, thank you Crystal Dynamics....
Tumblr media
because you know, using an “attempted” rape in the actual gameplay as a QTE is perfectly fine as long as she’s not using booty shorts.
now go and ask yourself why Laraboot's porn is ALL ABOUT RAPE AND SUBMISSION
“Classic Lara was overly-sexualized and objectified by the male audience, you should be thankful that Crystal got rid of her sex appeal and she’s not a sex object anymore”
*checking out Tomb Raider tags*
*comes across porn pics/gifs featuring reboot Lara*
Soooooo
.. yeah.

making things clear....
 # CLASSIC FANDOM YOU NEED TO TAKE A BREATH
Since @makoraider blocked me even before I could even answer, I can’t reply or reblog his post, but I want to make things clear.
My last reblog about TR2013 was a reaction to this post. I only answer because the OP was addressing the fans DIRECTLY. I NEVER visit or answer back to reboot blogs, NEVER, no matter how much they criticize Classics. I don’t like fan wars and I mind my own business. However, this time I felt alluded :
Tumblr media
I guess by saying “we need to talk” what @raidstombs  really meant was “I talk and you need to agree with me”, since I didn’t get an answer to my reblog (when I wasn’t even rude), and also judging by her reaction and the fact she blocked me too. So what’s the point of asking to talk when you’re going to block the people who answer you? She even mocked at us and said she was not going to censor herself. The irony....
I’m seriously tired of this kind of "all-time fans” that try so hard to look cool and show how better and mature they are. I’m sick of that so-prepared demagogic speech, making sure they don’t show the original answers from people who disagree, so they can manipulate and write whatever they want in their responses (making us look bad more easily in front of their followers). It’s pretty clear they don’t want to talk or debate, they just want social approval.
It’s funny how those who always complain about how “toxic” and ugly TR fandom is, are actually this kind of people who keep starting posts like @raidstombs , and then they blame us. Makes sense.
I can take hate, but I can’t stand so much hypocrisy. At least haters are honest.
So thank you for your piece of advise Makoraider but I didn’t start anything, and we will take a breathe when reboot fans stop making callouts about Classic fans.

Oh yes, so much diversity they used all the mediocre writer prompts and stereotypes: the angry black woman, the smart asian, the funny and sweet fat guy, the nice friendzoned boyfriend, the supportive fatherly figure (because one daddy was not enough for Laraboot), the tough and salty Scottish sailor. And of course, the THREE WHITE MALE characters died to save the damsel in distress, to fill the the heroic white male quota. Bravo.
Full article here: From sex symbol to icon: How Crystal Dynamics saved Lara Croft
I don’t recommend you to read it. It’s a pile of shit. Don’t spoil your day.
@positivelyamazonian did i get this right?  Putai —a shaman based on an actual North-African tribe—is a racist stereotype, but an unnecessarily violent and angry black woman is
 not?

hoopy-hoop replied to your Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett paves a new...
nothing says ‘strong female character’ like a scared girl with daddy issues who only does what she does because her dad did it first

Our favorite groundbreaking writer and “male with boobs” hater strikes again!
"Lara Croft and video game writer Rhianna Pratchett share more than a few traits. The hero of the Tomb Raider series and the writer of video game stories are both strong women with “daddy issues,”Pratchett jokes ."
Yes, IF ONLY it were only a joke... No wonder why Laraboot is such as an uninspiring character. She spends half of the article talking about his "daddy". That explains many things.
She jokes about her character being similar to herself, and then she goes and complains about DIVERSITY.
“We’re way behind our audience when it comes to diversity.”
Okey, she complains about diversity and, instead of writing an original and creative character (or even better, just leaving Lara Croft as that ICONIC game-changing female character that shaped the industry and the woman with the most remarkable personality EVER) she prefers to write about a girl-next-door character that resembles herself. THAT’s what I call a progressive and innovative character.  Fuck logic.
"We don’t have the same range of women characters in games as we do of men. We just don’t have that diversity."
You sure?
Of course she’s not. She is able to contradict herself within the same article some lines later.
“I find the deer-killing quite upsetting, too. I find animal-killing in games much more upsetting than human-killing.”
Not even going to comment on that...
“Some people want a linear game. They want to play through a good story, be taken on a journey. They don’t necessarily want lots of branching and a huge time investment.
My dear Rhianna, guess what? You’ve just describe the exactly opposite of what old Tomb Raider fans want! We are not those people your’re talking about (or at least the fandom didn’t used to be). And by the way, your stories are not even good.
She even wanted ROTR to be EVEN MORE about Laraboot’s-aka herself- daddy issues, but “unfortunately” that didn’t make it into the game.
How come this unimaginative and bland writer is paving “a new way for female heroes”? Seriously? The only award she should have won is for the “Most clichĂ©s per minute story”.

I agree with @positivelyamazonian reblogs, but I also want to talk about this.
“the fandom has become an ugly place with fans of the classic games pitted against those who enjoy the rebooted canon”
WRONG. We are NOT against the fans or anyone who enjoys the reboot, we are against THE GAMES themselves and the direction the franchise is taking. Sadly I can’t say the same about reboot fans as I’m tired of hateful anons and callouts .
“just because I like the classic games doesn’t mean I’m blind to the very obvious problems they had involving race and misogyny”. “their depiction of other cultures and races was ludicrously insensitive, childish, and just all around disgusting”
I don’t recall Lara being racist or insesitive to any culture or any race in particular. She would take care of anyone and everything no matter the race or even if they were human or not. I don’t see any difference between London/Venice/ or any western levels and China/South Pacific/South America/Epgyt levels...if you were in her way she would just kill you anyways. However, if it happens to be as you say, as a cinema nerd you claim to be, you should be able to know not every fictional character has to be a good person to be a good character (then villains wouldn’t exist). Lara was never intended to be morally right, she’s not a heroine, she’s a TOMB RAIDER. As @positivelyamazonian says, it seems like when a male character like Nathan Drake or Indiana Jones (one of the most sexist and racists character and series to have ever existed) acts like an anti-hero is more understandable than when a woman does....
“Lara’s sexuality was marketed solely for the pleasure of men under the guise of supposed empowerment. The male gaze is very apparent in the handling of Croft’s character - and it’s nauseating.“
As a feminist ME TOCA LOS HUEVOS when people talk about Classic Lara sexual objectification or think LaraBoot is more feminist-friendly. I could take it if you were not a fan, but reading “I’m grateful that she’s no longer a piece of fuckmeat just for male consumption” written by a person who PLAYED those games is totally insane.
Should we talk about “male gaze” ? Because Crystal Dynamics were the ones who decided to let THE PLAYER choose Lara’s clothes, so you could play the actual game with LAUra dressed in a BIKINI (YES, IN A IN-GAME MISSION) just for the players pleasure. Also, what do you think about using a “fake” raped-attend in a Commercial Teaser? And did you know some players have to turn the volume down while playing TR2013 or Rise so people wouldn’t think they were watching porn because of Laraboot constant moaning? Did you notice all Reboot-related porn is about Laraboot being RAPE? It might be shocking for you, but a submissive, vulnerable or ,as CRYSTAL DYNAMICS STATED, “a girl players would want to protect “ fits much more the most common male fantasies.
I can admit Classic TR advertising was quite sexual but it was only for commercial purposes. However the character we played with in Core Design games had nothing to do with that and Lara was NEVER objectified or in any sexist situation IN-GAME. That’s the difference between Core and Crystal Sexualization.
I can’t see how a strong, independent, self-confident, witty, fierce, intelligent badass woman is more misogynistic than a vulnerable and dependent girl whose only purpose is following another man steps (father), just because the size of her breast of the length of her shorts.
“I’m grateful that a woman is writing Lara’s story and transforming her into more than she was everintended to be.”
Don’t make me talk about Rhianna, just don’t.
It's totally fine if you prefer Crystal Dynamics games, but using and taking advantage of a PROTO concept that has nothing to do with the final version to spread shit about Core games and its fans it's quite nasty and unfair
Tumblr media
Prototype Concept & Game Design – 20th March 1995, Core Design.
“Lara Cruz [Croft] is a modern day adventurer and procurer of rare artefacts, which she relieves from Johnny foreigner with the gay abandon of a five year old stealing mars bars from the local cornershop. She then sells the heritage of these countries for profit, and perverse xenophobic pleasure. “
Tomb Raider fans, we need to talk about this.
Over the past several years, the fandom has become an ugly place with fans of the classic games pitted against those who enjoy the rebooted canon. I’ve been a fan of the series since it launched back in 1996 and I’ve enjoyed pretty much every iteration of Lara (barring TR: AOD.)
However, just because I like the classic games doesn’t mean I’m blind to the very obvious problems they had involving race and misogyny. As a cinema nerd, I love “Gone with the Wind” — but holy shit, it’s problematic as hell. It’s possible to love something and be critical of it. I believe that’s something the TR fandom needs to understand and embrace.
CORE did a lot of great things. Without them, the series wouldn’t exist. HOWEVER, their depiction of other cultures and races was ludicrously insensitive, childish, and just all around disgusting. In addition to that, their wanton sexualization of Lara – as a grown woman AND as a child – is beyond gross. There’s nothing wrong with a character being attractive and sexual; but Lara’s sexuality was marketed solely for the pleasure of men under the guise of supposed empowerment. The male gaze is very apparent in the handling of Croft’s character - and it’s nauseating.
The above pitch shows that Lara was a character conceived with a xenophobic bent. CORE felt this was not only an awesome trait to work into their games; but one that was admirable and put front and center in their attempts to sell their game. She’s xenophobic; but she’s such a scamp! Haha.
 Ew.
Listen – it comes down to this. If you love the CORE games, then awesome! But DON’T YOU DARE try to claim that Classic!Lara was perfect and that CORE could do not wrong.
I’m personally grateful to Crystal Dynamics for rebooting the character as a scholar with a genuine love and respect for other peoples and their culture. I’m grateful that she’s no longer a piece of fuckmeat just for male consumption. I’m grateful that they took the best parts of Classic!Lara and made her into a fleshed out, rounded character with flaws and strengths. I’m grateful that studios like CORE are gone and more thoughtful companies have risen in their place.
I’m grateful that a woman is writing Lara’s story and transforming her into more than she was ever intended to be.

I know you aren't keen on remasters and the like, but it would be nice if AOD was on the PS store as a PS2 Classic of sorts. Then again it's not very likely anyway since they only do the well received video games. *Stares at the stack of under-rated games that are collecting dust*
Hii nonnie!
I don’t think I fully understand what you mean. TRAOD is already a PS2 game, and also it’s still on sale in different digital game stores. In fact, it sold more than 500k copies on Steam. Considering it’s a 13 years old game that has been trashed by the critics and even by the new owners of the franchise, it’s a pretty impressive achievement ^_^
Of course I’d love TRAOD would get the recognition it deserves, but after 13 years dealing with the same shit you unfortunately get used to see it’s the easy target of criticism.
And that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m glad TRAOD fans are still passionate about this game, so we’re keeping it alive
