🌈I’m excited and proud to announce the new gift set inspired by Chinese cooking! It includes a cotton apron, a cotton tea towel, and two postcards with the same designs. The gift set has a limited number of 100, and they are available to order at 👉 tinyeyesgifts.com
✨THE STORY
To some people, cooking is a ritual to connect with their roots. To others, cooking opens the door to a different culture. To me, cooking is a way to share joy and love. It’s part of my identity that stays consistent amid all changes in my life. Different places, same dishes. The smell of soy sauce and vinegar opens a sensory tunnel leading to where I came from. The sound of the spatula hitting the iron wok brings me back to that small kitchen where I saw the hunchback of my grandma. I always wanted to weave this warm memory of Chinese cooking into my creation, making it tangible so that I can carry it with me when I travel and share it with others. That’s why I created an apron printed with Chinese sauces and a tea towel filled with commonly used kitchenware.
💝A GIFT THAT GIVES BACK
For each gift set sold, I’m donating €5 to @heartofdinner , who combats food insecurity and isolation by delivering care packages of hot lunches and fresh produce to NYC’s elderly East Asian American community.(check them out!)

An everyday example of passing from one stereotype to another: a female Ph.D must be dull, boring and unsuitable for marriage, while a good-looking woman is probably superficial, empty inside, and rely on her appearance to acquire a leading role. The good news is an increasing number women are breaking these stereotypes with their stories and actions. Happy Women’s Day! 🙌
P.S. In Chinese, the expression “花瓶”(vase) is used as a derogatory term to describe women who are good-looking but unintelligent.

Today is the 15th day of the Spring Festival, also known as 元宵节—the Lantern Festival. On this day, it’s a tradition to eat tangyuan ”汤圆“ (Southern China) or yuanxiao ”元宵” (Northern China), which is a glutinous rice ball with sweet fillings, such as red bean paste, sesame paste, or peanut butter. I also think it’s a perfect occasion to learn the Chinese expression 露馅(lòu xiàn), which means "revealing the filling/stuffing". It’s used to describe the act of revealing secret information by mistake, similar to the English expression "to let the cat out of the bag". 元宵节快乐! https://www.instagram.com/p/CLwWxEYjTPz/?igshid=f5avp0kxs8ft

Chinese lesson for the 🐂 year. Do you know any of them? ;) Note: The Chinese term translated here as ox is in Chinese 牛(niú), a word generally referring to cows, bulls, or other types of the bovine family. It may be male, female, neuter, and either singular or plural. So when we translate "Happy New Year of the Ox" from Chinese(牛年大吉)to English, we also translate the word from a general one to a specific one. #learnchinese #chineseculture #chineselanguage #chinesefood #chinesefoodlover #chinesewords #learnchineseonline #chinesecomics #chinesenewyear2021 #牛年 #春节 #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/CLb3jTPjFx3/?igshid=1r8a57qnoartm

If you were born in the year of the ox, 2021 is your animal year. In Chinese, we call it “本命年”. (běn mìng nián), or zodiac year of birth. Wearing red during one’s animal year is a tradition to keep away the evil spirit. Who’s getting red underwear this year? 👀 #chinesenewyear2021 #yearoftheox2021 #benmingnian #yearoftheox #wearred #chinesezodiacsign #chineseculture #learnchinese #sliceoflife #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/CLMX049D9mi/?igshid=qcpvh8nkd1se

I’m very excited- and honored to hold my first Instagram live with the incredible @fuchsiadunlop . Fuchsia is an English writer and cook who specializes in Chinese cuisine, especially that of Sichuan. Her work has inspired me to see Chinese cuisine in ways that I’ve never thought of before, and her recipes is the shortest way home whenever I feel homesick. We want to take this opportunity to talk about her unique perspectives on Chinese cuisine, to share our cross-cultural experience, and to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year together with you. There’ll be a Q&A session at the end of our conversation. If there are any questions you want to ask Fuchsia, please let me know by commenting on the post or by DM. Also, feel free to tag anyone who might be interested in the topic! See you on Monday, Feb 8th at 18:00 GMT on Instagram live✨😋 #tinyeyescomics #fuchsiadunlop #chinesenewyear2021

Every year, I design a new print to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This year, I picked the Chinese expression “蒸蒸日上”, which means thriving or flourishing in life and work. The four characters literally mean “steam steam day up”. Every time I see this word, I see an image of hot steam coming out from a bamboo steamer full of baos, warm and lively. I hope it keeps your spirit up in difficult times! ✨

There are people that make you forget about your differences: age, gender, nationality or social position. Paul was one of them. We learnt together,
exchanged ideas freely, and cheered for each other’s growth—the best friendship one could wish for.
Who’s that friend you cherish?

I discovered this expression yesterday and couldn’t help visualizing it on the paper. What expressions do you use to describe delicious food? 😋 #chinesefood #shanghainese #shanghaidialect #chineseculture #learnchinese #studychinese #deliciousfood #sliceoflife #tinyeyescomics https://www.instagram.com/p/CKTvJu9DuZA/?igshid=o2gy4e1w1vlx
