My Pixie 💜 & Mika 😿

💜 Pixie is home & doing well! But Mika is sick right now though 😿 I just cannot catch a break right now! I am so sorry, I was unable to post a Pixie update yesterday. Pixie came home yesterday afternoon and has been set up in my bedroom. They said Pixies’s hernia tear was pretty much in the same spot but a little longer this time. She has 11 or 12 staples that will come out in two weeks. She also has, “The Cone of Courage” to keep her from messing with her incision and staples. The cone is on her when I’m not in the bedroom with her or sleeping at night. If I’m in there or feeding her, I take the cone off so she does get big breaks from wearing it. She’s been a bit more down today but I think the 3rd day after surgery is the most rough. I’m hoping her perks up more tomorrow and wants to eat more. She’s also on the Cerenia nausea med & Mirtazapine appetite stimulant to help with all of that. 😿 Mika, I didn’t get to post about him yet because I was hoping it was just an upset stomach for a day or so. Mika has been not feeling well not wanting to eat and having pretty bad diarrhea since Sunday. Monday when I was at the vet with Pixie they prescribed me medication’s for Mika and he has been on those meds since then. Metronidazole antibiotic, Cerenia for nausea, Mirtazapine for appetite stimulant, proviable probiotics, Nutracal when he hasn’t eaten enough that day. This morning he seemed more dehydrated and was still having diarrhea pretty bad and not wanting to eat. So I took him to my vet this morning. His bloodwork was great it only showed inflammation which makes sense with all the gastrointestinal upset he is having. His fecal was negative. So they gave him subq fluids because he was a little dehydrated. I am also now also giving him Prednislone once a day. She thinks he either has Gastroenteritis or IBD. ❤️ I hope they both start to feel better soon! I’ve been using the Max Pill Reminder app to keep track of all the kitties meds. I’ve been using it for a while but with all these meds for 2 sick cats & then everyone else’s meds snd supplements too it has been overwhelming to deal and that app has been a huge help for me. This has been very stressful for all of us. I just want them to be all better soon! I will keep you posted when I can about how they are both doing. My Sweet Pixie 💜

💜 Pixie had hernia surgery today 💜 We rushed her to the Veterinary Surgery Service Inc. in Fort Walton Beach, FL ( about an hour and a half from my house ) since they had an opening today. Pixie has another abdominal hernia and her bladder has again slipped through the tear. She had surgery today to put her bladder back where it belongs and fix the abdominal tear too. I noticed she was not feeling well Friday night and had not eaten very much and then saw the lump of her bladder on her belly. I took her to the vet Saturday morning, and they did bloodwork, urinalysis, and fecal. Her blood work was OK. She just had a elevated white cells. Her urinalysis and fecal were both OK too. They did an abdominal ultrasound and saw that that lump is her bladder again not where it belongs. I secluded her to my bedroom and set her up in there with the water litter box so I could keep an eye on how much she was eating and drinking and making sure she was still able to urinate. She has been on Cerenia for nausea, buprenorphine for pain, mirtazapine for appetite, stimulant, and probiotics for her diarrhea. I took her to my regular vet first thing Monday morning, and they confirmed the hernia and were able to get us an appointment today for surgery. So we hurried here to Fort Walton, and she will be having surgery with the same doctor that performed it last time, Dr Wight. He said that he’s not sure why this has happened again. She could just have a very weak abdominal wall or it could be a congenital defect. They called and said she did great through the surgery. She’s resting comfortably and has good pain meds. We should be able to pick her up tomorrow afternoon. The surgery is expensive and the two vet visits she already had, then she will have at least one or two follow up visits at my regular vet. So I will be putting up a Pixie’s Surgery / New Years Sale on my website for my Fantasy Cat Art & Gifts soon. I will make another post and let you know once everything on my website is on sale. I just can’t believe this has happen to sweet little Pixie again. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to keep up with the comments on her right now. I have a lot going on right now and it’s all been pretty overwhelming ❤️

😻 Our New Kittens! 🤎 Miko & Milo 🩶 🍁 Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️

We Have Kittens! 😻 Meet Miko and Milo! 🍁 Happy Thanksgiving! Miko and Milo were found all alone by my dad’s workshop in my parent’s backyard in early October. So I went to their house and caught them. They were about 5-6 weeks old at that time. My daughter, Angel & I have been taking care of them and we are keeping them. They were a little sickly when we first caught them, icky eyes, upper respiratory infection, worms, a little underweight too. They were on eye meds, antibiotics, gas drops, dewormer and nutracal for a little while and are much healthier now. They are so adorable and loving! They purr so loud and play so hard! We will be introducing them to the other cats soon. They all know there are kittens in Angel’s room. We have let them see each other through the open door. I will be posting a lot more pictures and some videos all over soon! Miko (pronounced Mee koh) My daughter Angel named them & they are her babies and I am their Nina! 🥰

Kazu Diabetes Update - Thank you so much for the well wishes for Kazu! ❤️ Kazu is doing ok. Me not so much, I’ve had about six hours sleep in the past two days. He almost had a hypoglycemic incident Sunday night then went hyperglycemic in the middle of the night. I found a Facebook group for help with diabetic cats. I’ve learned a lot of info the last couple days. I have now started home testing which they highly recommended. I’m surprised that my vet did not recommend home testing to me. Kazu has been wonderful with the testing. He doesn’t mind it at all as long as he’s getting some of the pasty treats. Right now my Vet and the Admins on this fb group are giving me some conflicting information. I have a friend that is a human doctor that has dealt with diabetes a lot over the last 40 years she’s going to come over tomorrow and help answer some questions for me and help get a better handle on all of this and how it all works. I’m still going by what my vet says for his treatment. I’m just trying to learn more from my friend so I can ask my Vet better questions and things I may not have thought of. Once I get Kazu more sorted out and feel comfortable with testing him and getting his insulin doses right I will feel so much better about all of this.

Kazu has been diagnosed with Diabetes & has started treatment. He had just had bloodwork and urinalysis done the middle of December, because I felt like he was off then. Not his normal, active playing self like Romeo & Quincy. All of that bloodwork and urinalysis came back completely normal. His blood glucose was right in the middle of the range 127. The range is 72-175. So since she couldn’t find anything wrong with him, we just had to wait till he developed any more symptoms. February 16 Kazu started being treated for a UTI. I also noticed he was drinking more water. About 3 days into his UTI treatment I still didn’t think he was right so I took him for more bloodwork and another urinalysis. Thursday 22nd morning my vet called called and said Kazu has diabetes my heart sank. His blood glucose was almost 400. She wanted me to bring him in to learn how to give injections and go get him a prescription for insulin to start asap. Kazu started out getting 1 unit of insulin every 12 hours. It is the tiniest little amount of insulin not even a fourth of an inch. We are also adjusting his diet and probably everyone else’s diet to make things easier and possibly help prevent Kazu’s other two brothers from getting diabetes as well I hope since this seems to be genetic. There is a possibility that Kazu could go into remission since we caught this very early so I am hopefully. Kazu’s went to the vet yesterday morning 2/28 for 9am to have glucose curve monitoring. His numbers still stayed in the low 400s for his first 2 checks then high 300s for the second 2 checks. Kazu was on 1 unit of insulin every 12 hours, now I gave him 1.5 units last night and then starting this morning he now gets 2 units of insulin every 12 hours. He has been really good about the shots. We just distract him with some of the lickable tube treat and he doesn’t even know he’s getting an injection. Kazu goes back for his next glucose curve monitoring in two weeks unless something change. I have been reading and researching a lot online about cat diabetes. I want to be fully educated and able to care for him the best I can. Kazu does act like he feels a bit better so I will keep you posted on how he’s doing! I can’t believe that he also has diabetes just like what happened to Forrest. At least this time I knew what to watch for. It still kills me that I didn’t know what was happening to Forrest until it was too late. I will always feel like I failed Forrest because I didn’t know what was happening. Please send me all the good vibes and well wishes you can for Kazu. This has been a lot to deal with for all of us and especially Kazu.

Pensacon was this past weekend. It was a good show! I saw a lot of familiar faces and met a lot of new people too. Thank you so much to all of you that were able to come out to see me. I really appreciate your support. Everyone really loved my new painting too so that was nice. I’m sorry I haven’t posted about my new painting and also Pensacon anywhere other than my Patreon yet because things have been kind of crazy the past couple weeks. I’ll be making another post about this very soon. Everything with the show went smoothly with actual load in and set up. Everyday of the show day was good too. This loadout was our fastest time ever so that was great too. I am very glad to have my only show of the year out-of-the-way! Now I am free to work on things. I need to get done here at the house, new art, updating my website and lots of other things I’ve had on the back burner for the past two years. Xoxo! Carrie

“Jade Dragon Li Mao” Rough Sketch 🐲😻🎊 You don’t know how happy I am to have this rough sketch to share! I been sharing my progress on my Patreon the past few weeks. Please follow me there if you’d like to see more updates. You can follow me on Patreon for free! The 2nd pic is Sweet Pixie was supervising me drawing. She’s feeling so much better now. The 3rd pic is the color scheme I’ve decided on. The cat is a Dragon Li, it looks like a brown tabby, and is considered to be the unofficial national cat of China. The dragon will be mostly shades of green and plain wood color and have woodgrain texture. The 4th pic is cute Kazu helping me color my sketch. I’m going to paint this piece. This is my second Chinese New Year’s piece. The last one was in 2020, “Cherry Blossoms” with The Year of the White Rat. 2024 is The Year of the Green Wooden Dragon. I hope that you like my sketch and I’ll post some Work in Progress pics once I start painting.
