Something to consider about a more toxic aspect of Addaeron is the power imbalance.
Personally, I love that Addam & Daeron have such different backgrounds. Daeron is a trueborn prince and dragonrider, who will one day become a knight. He belongs to the most powerful family in Westeros and occupies the top of the social hierarchy. Addam is a bastard and commoner, raised by a single mother. He has no guarantee of what his future will be like, because for someone in his position, his family’s livelihood is dependent on the goodwill of their superiors.
This difference in upbringing would definitely influence the dynamic of their relationship. The power imbalance between them actually can’t be ignored.
Nobles have a tendency to feel entitled to act however they want when it comes to commoners. (Eg. Even a highborn character like Arya, who isn’t very classist, feels entitled to Gendry and expects him to stay with her. She is angered when he leaves her behind to follow his own path.) Due to his even more privileged upbringing, I am sure Daeron holds classist views too: raised to hate bastards/look down on the smallfolk. His classism might be slightly negated by his own kinder nature but it would still exist.
Daeron would probably feel that he is owed Addam’s affections, especially if he already likes Addam first. When Addam leaves him behind, Daeron could grow resentful. It’s not a surprising reaction for a privileged prince in his position to feel possessive over his lowborn lover. On Addam’s part, as much as I think he would enjoy having a prince’s favour, it would also make him feel beholden to Daeron in a way. Daeron holds power over Addam, and both of them would know it. Royalty/commoner can never truly be a relationship of equals, and that might be what influences Addam’s decision to leave.

Addam is very selfless, except for the times he was selfish (for Daeron). His ambitions can drive him to rise up in rank enough to request mercy for Daeron from the Blacks. Only by turning himself into someone of value can he secure protection for Daeron.
Daeron is very gentle, except for the times he was violent (for Addam). His warcrimes were the means for him securing a pardon for Addam from the Greens. Only by proving himself completely indispensable can he assure Addam’s safety.
The both of them act unlike themselves only for each other’s sake.

What if the reason Corlys wanted Daeron spared was because of Addam’s influence? At this point, Daeron is an active enemy combatant to the Blacks, and he sacked Bitterbridge too. His brothers have been given a death sentence by the Blacks but Corlys spoke up to ask Daeron to be spared.
Daeron might think Addam turned his back on him to pursue his own ambitions. But unbeknownst to Daeron, he’s also part of the future Addam wants to build for himself. 🥺 Addam may have wanted the dragon, knighthood, legitimization, lordship, lands and castle of his own, but he wants the prince too (his very own trophy husband ❤️)!
It would be so tragic that despite Addam’s initial attempt to protect Daeron, in the end, he’s the one that has to kill him.

There’s an example in Fire & Blood of a Targaryen prince publicly taking the daughter of a wealthy trader as his paramour.
Now what if another prince (Daeron) secretly followed his big brother’s example and took the son (Addam) of a wealthy trader as his own paramour?

Qarl & Laenor // Daeron & Addam
If I had a nickel for every time a Velaryon was in a same sex relationship with someone of a different social class and the culmination of said relationship was the lowborn one killing the highborn one, I would have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

addam velaryon, daeron targaryen and not sparing even septs in their attacks.
When Lady Caswell appeared on the ramparts of her castle to ask for the same terms Lady Merryweather had received, Hightower let Prince Daeron give the answer: “You shall receive the same terms you gave my nephew Maelor.” Her ladyship could only watch as Bitterbridge was sacked. The Hogs Head was the first building put to the torch. Inns, guild halls, storehouses, the homes of the mean and the mighty, dragonflame consumed them all. Even the sept was burned, with hundreds of wounded still within.
Fire & Blood, The Dying of The Dragons - Rhaenyra Triumphant p. 484
Most devastating of all was the dragon. Seasmoke came swooping down again and yet again, breathing flame. A hundred tents were soon afire, even the splendid silken pavilions of Ser Hobart Hightower, Lord Unwin Peake, and Prince Daeron himself. Nor was the town of Tumbleton reprieved. Those shops and homes and septs that had been spared the first time were engulfed in dragonflame.
