he kept his eyes trained on her as she found a brief way to keep him quiet in a way that only she could — thumper sometimes had a hard time compromising with anyone; but with maddy it was completely different. “ — you don’t know that. “ he fought gently but he knew it was far too late to change her mind even if he had his made up, especially after their compromise. the only thing he could do now was ensure that nothing would happen to her and hope it’d work. “ for tonight. but one day you’re gonna bat your eyes and me and it’s not gonna work. “

Maddy knew as soon as he sighed that she had won. At times their marriage was a compromise, a bit of give and take, but it seemed like lately Maddy had found ways to eventually get what she wanted with her husband compromising. Quickly moving her hand from his cheek to his lips she stopped him from talking further. "Nothing is going to happen to me." She shook her head to reassure him further but a smile played on her lips. It was cute that her husband worried so much but also that she could see the fire in his eyes at the thought of anything happening to her. a strange but welcoming warmth settled in the pit of his belly, sitting beside two people who meant more to him than anything, proof that even with all the shit he had to go through or put himself through — that he could have something that was his. a family. It hadn’t been what we wanted once upon a time but he wouldn’t trade it for anything now. if anything it gave him even more of a strong sense to protect them. he’s glad that their son would have people in his life to love and care for him in ways thumper didn’t necessarily have growing up, to fight for him. the only thing that pained thumper a little was the fact that his mom couldn’t be there but he knew that he’d have time to teach mason about her, eventually. “ I think we’ll both be able to teach him things the other can’t, “ he compromised as he watched her with the tiny human sleeping on her chest.

Even as she took her son she pressed into her husband a bit more just to jab at him a bit for his comment. Their son not even stirring much she knew that her body was comfortable but she took a bit of pride in knowing that the one person she was determined to protect from the world didn't automatically cry. She knew that parents in general were a touchy subject with her husband. The guy who hadn't exactly been honest about his dad being alive when they first started dating, now was a father himself. He was the opposite of his dad but it probably was all in spite of his father and not because of him that he was so great to Mason. His mother on the other hand was someone Maddy knew she coule never truly live up to. Meredith was almost saintly in her eyes. While Sonia was a great mother, it was Meredith who she would have to live up to. The kind mother that had been all the kindness her husband had seen until the moment she died. Her hand reached for his temple, brushing back against his hair as she pulled him closer. "I don't want him to love me more.
