survivor of the original cordyceps outbreak, frank manages as best he can to stay alive in a violent and scattered world until he accidentally stumbles upon bill's home and teaches him the meaning of thriving over surviving.

And there’s a hesitation. Bill hesitates because he’s looking, he’s just suddenly seeing how handsome this man is, standing there in the light.  And that’s something that Frank’s brain is incredibly attuned to.  It’s that fast.  There’s a moment there, if you watch that scene again, where he kind of smiles. And he smiles because in his mind, he’s like: I got you, I know you. And from that point forward, it was about, in my mind, about Frank thinking to himself: look, maybe I get lunch and I move on, I don’t know, but let’s just see where this goes.

yeah hi can we talk about the fact that bill was probably a closeted gay man his entire life before frank showed up? uber libertarian, don’t tread on me, doomsday bunker with guns and ammo galore… no relationships with men, whether due to shame or general paranoia/inability to trust.

and then a zombie apocalypse. society gone. cultural norms and stigma gone.  

enter frank. enter lifelong pent-up gay angst. no one there to judge. no one there to betray you. pure unadulterated freedom to be who you are. to love who you want.

cordyceps freed bill. cordyceps gave him frank. cordyceps supports gay marriage. cordyceps for president.

this has been a public service announcement.

at the end of episode 3 when joel and ellie are getting their supplies from bill and frank’s house, they find a box labeled “woman’s shirts.”

tess is the only woman they’re friends with, which means this box was for her. so whenever they’d go to the clothing boutique, they’d find something for her and set it aside for when she visited next time.

i just - they loved tess. they cared about her. they thought about her even when she wasn’t around. they’d go to their little boutique and pick out clothes for her that she could take back home to the qz. “paying attention to things is how we show love.” “i leave you all of my weapons and equipment, use them to keep tess safe.”

and bill talked a bit more about tess in his letter but we don’t get to fully see it:

also bill’s telling joel some wine pairing for food that he can share with tess, probably because one of bill’s love languages is cooking and he thinks joel should wine and dine her. how cute is that.
