something i'll always appreciate about Ghostbusters (and other movies from the around the same time) is the style of comedy and how it doesn't treat the audience like idiots

example:

think of the scene when venkman is coming up with the price after their first job at the hotel. his manner of speech is direct and his spiel about the deals and prices seems almost rehearsed, but if you look at egon you can see he's signalling venkman with his hands on how much they should charge. its subtle, but noticibale enough that its obvious what theyre doing. a very funny visual gag

lets reimagine this scene in 2022, and tell me it wouldn't go exactly like this:

venkman: now lets talk the damage

venkman: uhhhhhh *looks at egon, waving his hands in a motion that implies "help me out"*

*camera cuts to egon, who has a surprised expression on his face. he looks around, points to his chest and mouths "me?"*

*camera cuts back to venkman, nodding his head quickly and mouthing "yes you!"*

egon: uhh *coughing sounds muffling the words "5 thousand"*

venkman: right yes, 5 thousand big ones

manager: *visibly confused*

Harold Ramis had a real talent for writing jokes and visual gags that don't spell themselves out to the audience, which makes his movies so rewatchable. you'll catch things you didn't see on the first watch, or the second watch, or the fifth watch. it also creates a much more visually appealing experience because there are subtle things happening on screen that may or may not relate to the main dialogue which makes it feel less like a script playing out and more like the characters really are involved in the plot.

had a dream i was hanging with egon except he was my age / height and i leaned on his shoulder while we watched a movie it was pretty sweet ngl

edit: i forgot to mention the movie was ghostbusters and we were quoting it together
