Dog Years feels like it should be this "badass bitch" song but if you listen to the lyrics closely it's HEARTBREAKING. Comparing herself to a dog and begging for the simple joys. Wishing she could be euthanized like their dog, Jagger, was. Translating her age to dog years to express how exhausted and over everything they are.
Fuck.

i love halsey because she'll write lyrics like "a girl like that is a mother, must be tough/ a problem child, i was rough/ but what do you do with a difficult grown up?" and then in another song she'll rhyme "michigan" with "bitch again"

I cannot comprehend the idea of being a new mother and dealing with a health crisis so intense that you genuinely believe you may not survive it and on top of that your partner/father of your child is making you feel like that

'cause my dog died last year, he fell asleep in my embrace, and the very last thing I told him was "see you soon so we can race." you know a mercy kill is what I seek, I didn't ask to live but dying's up to me

favourite 2024 albums → THE GREAT IMPERSONATOR by Halsey
"I hope once you listen you will find that behind this theatrical facade is a record I made in a time of grave existential bewilderment. The album is sad, this is true. It's frenzied and calm all at once somehow. To have it in the world with the knowledge of all that I learned while I was making it, is a profound feeling."

halsey's discography and the age of 28 is sooooo. i hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old. posting a birthday card captioned "i made it to the day im 28 years old. im one hundred ninety-six in dog years (1 human year = 7 dog years and 196/7 = 28). i watched my friends die before twenty-one, and now im twenty-eight im at the doctor's every day because i can't stop losing weight. for her to tweet about this album being their 2 year old existential crisis, when she was actually 28 years old (and possibly not sure if she would survive her illness) to the great impersonator being one of their rawest, deeply emotional albums yet some of her most critically acclaimed bodies of work so far.......it takes a lot of courage to share your most personal pieces of art with the world but im so glad they did because it will touch so many lives in a positive way
