I know I've said something like this before but i cannot stay at hotels normally anymore. I yawn when I'm walking in and go "omggg. Just like alex!!" And then i have to lock in and be sane again.

LITERALLY it's so hard to not be TTBpilled. on a long drive thinking about yassen driving the car. candy in the convenience store. shitty hotel bar breakfasts. born to be insane about blorbo forced to lock in

I'm on my 3rd or 4th full re-read of TTB and something caught my eye. In chapter nine in Yassen's flashback, a plate of food is described, including the garnish that's placed diagonally. I know from copious amounts of cooking competition shows that that style of garnish is outdated by about 20ish years, so about the time in which the flashback takes place. Was that something that was researched for the fic to help put it in that timeframe? Either way, I think it's an amazing little detail that helped immerse me into the writing! (Totally not re-reading because the new chapter made me completely feral)

The herring is plated elegantly, befitting a New Year’s banquet. The cut displays fish, potato, and onion. Vivid beet turns the top stark red, but for a sprig of garnish placed diagonally.

Two dozen sets of eyes drill into him.

That’s… a crazy coincidence that I (Fin) would love to take credit for thinking about when I wrote that scene, but it’s absolutely coincidental gfkshaksh

I initially wrote the New Year’s flashback right around New Year’s 2023, because ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a tradition with my closest friend of doing a big Russian new years with them and their family. That tradition’s evolved a lot, but we’ve maintained some of our favorite parts… like my personal favorite dish, herring under the blanket, which is what’s described with the garnish there!

The thing is, we’ve never had garnish on it, so for that, and for any other foods I don’t have first hand experience with, I remember just looking up references on google images. I’m SO happy it lined up perfectly with the timeframe, because that’s such a fun little detail to know heheh

Doing yet another full read through of the fic and taking more notes because the benefit of hindsight and the brilliance of TTB is that i can have new things to talk about every time I read the same chapters ajfhsjfhs

Now though… I watched several episodes of danny phantom and starting reading a 700k word fic (quite literally the longest fic I‘ve ever started)

I crave more horror!danny agahhhsh

Also I did not know danny loves making puns as much as alex hihihi I see now how you’d be able to connect these two things~

but seriously how did yall come up with this idea?! I love fandoms for this exact reason, I didn‘t know I wanted to see this crossover but I got it <3

fin mostly came up with the idea thinking about some AR concepts and this SCP x DP idea kei was kickin' around. personally, i never thought i'd be writing a crossover fic, but it's really fun and works really well as long as you're willing to put the work into building a good foundation for characters, tone, and worldbuilding alike!

hey so what was that about the note in Danny's scp file that said they had no proof of him killing anyone huh

I mean on the one hand that could explain why there's no character tags for anyone from Amity Park, implying that none of them are able to show up (unlike tom and kyra, who will have enough of an impact on the story to be worthwhile tags) but on the other hand, nah, I'm still holding on to (the hope that nobody's dead) the theory that Danny leapt to conclusions, you know cause he just DIED and wasn't in a stable mindset.

anyways the latest chapter was great and me and the boys are gonna go feral. Yassen has absolutely accepted little Danny as his second son and he's just in denial!

yassen is like... aware he's compromised but is an absolute CHAMP at putting off his midlife crisis about it. i can't wait to smack him to death with the baseball bat once he lets his feelings catch up with him properly

as for the amity tags... :) who's to say what happened that day in amity park?

🥺Looking at you with my huge eyes. I just wanted to say your fic got me into Alex Rider and i read a lot of the books and watched the whole show and as a certified Danny Phantom enjoyer you have given me another Sad Boy ™️ to obsess over, and I thank you.

This is EXACTLY how I felt when Fin got us into AR. Alex is just a little guy going through the horrors how are you supposed to NOT love him!!!! In the show the interrogation scene where he's bloody and concussed? Literally say no more. SOLD.

I just finished my first reread since chapter 9 was posted and I just wanted yall to know that i am SCREAMING WITH SO MANY FEELINGS HOLY SHIT I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH

I know I've said this several times in my comments on ao3, but I've had TTB on the brain and I just wanted to reiterate how incredibly skilled yall are when it comes to crafting tension and suspense within the narrative! It's been inspiring me to try and explore more horror-esque elements within my own writing projects, and I honestly sorta wanna print out the whole fic so I can go through it with a highlighter and dissect all the ways yall make it work. It's so incredibly impressive to me how effectively you've crafted this story and it's honestly making me want to go through and write a literary analysis essay or something about how different elements and themes are built up over the course of the story akfhskhfskd

We put so much care into the style and technical aspects of fiction writing. just read ch. 13 of ttb. I wanted to note that i am absolutely obsessed with yassen shifting from not even calling danny by his name to thinking of him as ‚little‘ danny. Like, you know, alex. i think he got attached to another child guys- anyway I enjoyed reading this fic very much so thank you for posting it~~

you have no idea how excited i am to whack him with the midlife crisis baseball bat over his attachments and emotions. he's doing a great job at fending it off and staying in survival mode but he can't hide for long.

Okay, I just finished the Alex Rider series and loved it. The question here is, do you recommend I stick with it? Or do you think I should read one or more of the books for more context? I plan to reread TTB after I finish. For better enjoyment.

the AR TV series is excellent! in terms of the books, what we always recommend is for everyone to at least read russian roulette, because that has a lot of (heartbreaking) stuff from yassen's past. it's also written more seriously than some of the earlier AR books—the later ones take on a more serious tone as horowitz's audience aged, which is definitely the tone we prefer for TTB (and the very clear direction that the AR TV series was given).

okay this hit me out of nowhere and idk how accurate this is bc i don’t know that much about the alex rider series and i know the most obvious dynamic is wet black cat danny and golden retriever alex (and also danny and yassen as two predators who recognize each other) but like….danny as a wolf in sheep’s clothing and alex as a sheep in wolf’s clothing…

bc danny’s goal when in human form is to appear normal and harmless and unassuming and while there are things that give him away to the trained eye (coughyassencough) aside from his terrible lying skills, he mostly succeeds. he only allows himself to appear as More when it’s absolutely necessary and will do what is necessary if there are no other options. it’s how he’s survived

alex on the other hand is doing his best to appear to be the agent that everyone wants/needs him to be and he attempts to keep his soft squishy heart and desire to have a normal fucking life (someone please hug him; danny hug your brother and let him hug you pls and thank u) hidden as much as possible. the line from the chapter with the joint operation debrief where someone says that alex is a tough kid and then someone else says that they’re sure that’s what he WANTS everyone to think? yeah

anyway sorry for the word vomit, this just popped into my head and it wouldn’t leave me alone and i just love this dysfunctional family so much
