The fact that tom said "well....do what you want to *me*" as a way of asking shiv to prove she does in fact WANT him.....and she interpreted it as permission for cruelty and looked in his fucking face and told him she doesnt love or want him.....

I once read this short story about a guy who could only get off by imagining his penis was a knife that his partners were repeatedly stabbing themselves on. That he was so irresistible they would eagerly welcome this pain, administer it to themselves even.

Shiv reminds me of that.

not to look too deeply into a joke line, but it honestly makes so much sense that tom would be good in bed. Shiv is so touch/love repulsed that the only way she could actually enjoy repeated sex with 1 partner would be getting railed. It cannot feel like an act of love. If someone were to habitually treat her tenderly she would vomit on their million threadcount silk sheets.

Ditto why she cheats. She's not looking for sex. The only person she's ever fucked is herself, and that is by design.

for Connor roy to likely have watched his mother swept aside like garbage while his father started a new life with some cold new woman....for conner roy to step aside and make room for three new children.....for Connor roy to know that his father almost certainly loves shiv/kendal/roman more than him...for Connor roy to know that his father almost certainly doesn’t love shiv/kendal/roman *enough* or properly.....for Connor roy to mature early in order to become some kind of father figure for the three golden children he could never live up to in his dads eyes....for Connor roy to set aside advancement and prioritize taking the kids fishing and camping and building some semblance of a normal childhood he never had ... for Connor roy to cave into the pressure and finally pick a dream based on what his family might find suitable.......for CONNOR ROY to do all of that and his thanks is to be the laughingstock of the family because of how irrelevant and stupid he is to *dare* not compete against the people he loves ....
