Random notes about my favourite scene from The Penguin. Episode 6 Eve and Sofia.

Eve is in comfortable clothes role playing an innocent exchange with Sofia although she intends to protect Oz’s secrets but most importantly her girls.

Sofia is judgemental of Eve as she has freedom and no longer has to perform to please the men in her life.

However as the conversation progresses she realises as important freedom is to her, family is what she’s always wanted and why she was so gutted by the loss of Alberto and Isabella.

Eve’s girls were united in protecting Eve the only time Sofia gets an in is when Roxy ‘betrays’ Eve. Which Sofia thinks is just part of life in Gotham but was in fact Eve ensuring her family were financially supported as she’s not expecting to survive her encounter with Sofia.

This encounter is in direct opposition with the men in both their lives who have sacrificed others to save themselves whereas Eve is sacrificing herself for her family.

The first time the two see eye to eye is when they are united by this fact; Carmine killed those women and Oz used that suffering for his gain.

The two suffered and both of them through empathy give each other another chance at life; literally in Sofia not killing Eve and figuratively when Eve gives Sofia Oz’s location for a shot at vengeance.

I’m super excited we’re going to see interaction between Selina and Sofia soon as Selina is unironically my favourite character in all of literature but this scene was very much the precursor to that. Eve being the Catwoman of East End/ Ed Brubaker-esque depiction of the character before we see it in the Reevesverse.

I cannot wait for the bad bitch trio (Sofia, Selina, Eve) to link up and beat the shit out of Oz
