Game Review: NY Giants @ GB Packers
Final Score: NY: 13 GB: 38
It’s not a surprise to see the clinic that Aaron Rodgers put on Sunday night. After struggling with a Giant’s defense for the majority of the first half, the two time MVP and Superbowl champion found his rhythm throwing 362 yards and 4 TDs. The Giants got to an early 6 point lead (which could have been 14 if not for some anti-clutch drops by OBJ and Sterling Shepard for TDs) on the road, and it seemed that the NY defense could stop the hottest offense in football. The Packers opened with 5 straight drives that ended in a punt and Rodgers took a couple of early sacks that knocked them out of field goal range. As I watched the Giants dominate the first half though and Eli Manning look better than he had in weeks, the realization came that the Packers just needed one pass to spark the offense. A long 30 yard completion to Davante Adams late in the second quarter after Rodgers played the pocket magic spelled doom for the Giants. A magical dart by Rodgers to Adams the next play again gave the Packers a 7-6 lead. It’s amazing to see Rodgers make the most of every snap, especially when the Giant’s pass rush seemed to be ineffective.
I thought the bleeding would stop there, but a quick 3 and out by the giants and a couple of GB timeouts gave the Packers the ball back with about a minute left. Rodger’s starts doing things and eventually they make it to the Giants’ 40 with 6 seconds on the clock. McCarthy could have called a quick throw for 8 or 9 yards and a FG attempt following, but then he remembered he had the QB who threw two huge Hail Marys last year. After the ball was snapped with 4 receivers lined up, Aaron Rodgers avoids the rush and throws a 50 yard pass into the endzone that falls over a sea of blue and directly into the hands of Randall Cobb, who had missed the past several games from injury. 6-14.
Even though it was only an 8 point lead, I could tell the Giants would have to fight back hard to win this game. The receivesr were not on point. The defense was tiring. Luckily early in the Third quarter, McCarthy decided to play into the whole football analytics thing and go on 4th and 1 in GB territory. The playcall was horrendous, a slow run up the middle by Ty Montgommery which gets stuffed. Giants take over at the Greenbay’s 40, and Eli manning throws a 41 yard pass to rookie receiver Tavarres King of all people. Giants are within 1, 13-14. However, the all-pro defense couldn’t stop the best quarterback in football from carving them up. The Packers score on the next 4 drives to seal the deal for Eli Manning, 10 points in the 3rd and 14 more in the 4th.
Eli Manning did not play a bad game at all. Although his stats are somewhat lackluster, the Giants star receiver OBJ didn’t show up today with 4 catches for 28 yards and a career-high 3 drops. It’s a tough offseason for the Giants, but they had a relatively successful season and some great young talent making the leap. Eli Manning always remains a question, but that’s what makes him so special in the end.
Also big note that Jordy Nelson had an early rib injury in this game and may not be ruled healthy for the game next week at AT&T. However, I think I would take Rodgers over Dak anyday, so Cheeseheads can feel somewhat comforted by the fact that their quarterback can tell them to “R-E-L-A-X”.

Every Action Counts
It's been great being home. However, I'm starting to feel this sense of incompleteness in my daily actions. Time is slow. It might be due to being plucked right out of the busy college life and into the pampered lifestyle my family provides me. Watching TV shows with my little brother or reading George RR Martin and Murakami combat this sort of my fueling desire to take the shortest and most efficient path to my future. The one positive thing is that this slowing of each hour lets me appreciate and see the beauty of each moment. My character usually coerces me in believing that every decision should be taken for the sake of progress towards a tangible goal. It's nice to not have to think like that all the time. Maybe I will return right to a killer mindset when I go back to school. Meanwhile though, it's time for me to appreciate the small things and restful days. Don't get too many chances in life for that.

Reading “That” Part
Just got to “that” part in A Storm of Swords. Reading that was extremely difficult and make me choke a little. I can see why Martin got so much hate-mail for writing that chapter.
Finishing it on the plane to LA tomorrow. This book better end on a happier note. Otherwise, this is going to a be depressing start to my Spring Break. I need a cup of tea now.
Pretty excited about NCAA Playoff Games tonight! Going to end my time up here in with a fun night with my brothers.
