Introducing new WIP:

Idk if we're going to keep that name—I thought of it on the spot—but rn it's what we're using lol.

It's about our OCs Bree and Sparrow, featuring other characters such as Dominic Cliff, Sparrow's older brother; Ryan Ashworth, his boyfriend; Michael Phillips, a singer; Gwen Ramberg, Bree and Sparrow's third friend, amongst others. It'll have Bree and Sparrow's points of view in it. I'll release a small synopsis in a bit.

Julian's point of view

"Do you remember that one period where that one fucking song by Katy Perry came on like every two songs? It was like, Katy Perry, Bebe Rexha, Calvin Harris, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Halsey, Katy Perry, the Chainsmokers, Katy Perry, Calvin Harris- ooh! Is that a bit of Lady Gaga-? Nope. Katy Perry."

I raise my eyebrows at Jamie while he looks through his Spotify playlist. I do remember that, actually, but I don't think he's looking for an answer. I sit down next to him and sigh. I hate sitting—in all circumstances I would much rather stand, or I get restless and start tapping my fingers against surfaces like I've had three cups of coffee, except I haven't—but standing has gotten boring and I look like I'm waiting to take his order.

"Finally lowered yourself down to the peasants, eh?" Jamie says, looking up from his phone. "My playlist is trash. You find something." He throws his phone at me and I catch it. I'm not interested in putting any songs on in public, so I just scowl at the phone like it bit me.

"Would rather not," I say.

"Yeah, I'm sure you'd rather be in the sports hall training and all that in order to impress the king," Jamie says dryly. "You know, acting like you're the only one who's got to do that."

"I'm the one he pays attention to," I reply, voice sharp. It's what I like to think. I want the attention. I hate attention most of the time, it makes my skin fucking crawl, but from the king I would take all of it. He and Auberon are the only father figures I have in my life. There's actual father, but who can be bothered with that bastard.

"No. He pays attention to all of us, you fucking paperclip," Jamie says, and I laugh unexpectedly, a small shout of a thing. He leans his elbow on the table, face closer to mine now. I glance away from him, running my tongue along my teeth. "But you know something?"

I turn my face to look at him. We're too close. I often speak with my friends standing far too close to them, and it's never bothered me before. I raise my eyebrows expectantly.

"You will be getting attention from him when he finds out about you and Fernando," Jamie says, tapping his temple, and I open my mouth to protest but there's no point. Jamie's too clever. He's such an idiot sometimes, most of the time, almost always, and then beneath that he's clever. Beneath that again he's just a moron, but that doesn't make the clever less deadly. He points in the direction of Fernando, eating lunch on the other side of the room. With Destina. My jaw sets.

"You're not funny, Jamie."

He raises his arms in innocence. "Not trying to be. I'm serious. If I thought it was funny I'd have told somebody by now, eh? And have I done that?"

"You have not."

"Derrick will reserve a special place in hell for you, you know that? You gotta be more careful. We are friends, Dominguez, and I'm not totally insensitive."

He's a dick and he knows it. "You're the only one who's noticed."

"And that absolutely amazes me every day, I promise you that. But watch out, yeah?" He slaps my back in a friendly sort of way and takes his phone from my hand, standing up. "I better be off."

"Mmmm."

"You sleep easy now."

He's gone then, and I tilt my head at the empty space. I don't feel any threat from the king. I can't process his authority. I'm left feeling blank and apathetic.

The Beyond Academy

A change in TBA's points of view:

As my sister and I have decided to rewrite it we've decided that we're adding in point of views of other characters. Fernando will be the main focus, but it will also include Emily Fernsby, Everado Munyoça, Valentino Munyoça, Albano de los Santos and Rosamaria Dominguez now. In the first version they functioned so much as main characters that we've decided to actually give them a view on things and it'll help with the plot.

Congratulations!  No matter how little or how much you did on your WIP, you are amazing.  Creating is hard work, and you should be proud of yourself!

This is so true? I'm sorry I'm killing your inbox reblogging stuff btw and I'll stop now BUT the other day my sister was like "send me the plan for the thing you're writing" and I was like. No you don't understand it's two lines long. It specifies that he thinks about... idk oranges at one point. You don't know why that's relevant. Only I know why that's relevant. It'll look like a train wreck to u. I Will Not Share.

Friendly reminder that outlines don't need to be that detailed.

If planning out ever scene or arc in great detail works for you, that's great!

But if it doesn't, you don't need to force yourself to make a big outline. Your outline can have 3 things on it, and that's okay too. It can be in broad strokes. You don't need to follow a popular outlining method if you don't want to.

Remember, the best outline (or lack thereof) is one that works for you!

i know it’s been said before, but it bears repeating: a big, big part of maintaining your confidence & self esteem as a creator is fully embracing the concept of “you don’t have to be good like them.  you can be good like you.”

for example, i’m not someone who’s particularly good at coming up with complex, elaborate plots or incredibly unique ideas.  it’s just not how i choose to write.  and it would be easy for me to look at someone with an elaborate, super unique plot & decide that because i don’t write like that, i’m not a good writer.  after all, unique plots are good, and my writing lacks those, so my writing must not be good, right?  well, no, actually.  i just have different strengths, like taking a simple premise & digging super deep into its emotional depths.  that’s what i do well & it isn’t any better or worse than people who do elaborate world building or come up with really creative and unexpected plots.

your writing is never going to be all things to all people.  it just isn’t.  inevitably, you’ll have to make creative choices that favor certain aspects of writing over others.  there is truly no getting around that & it’s honestly a good thing, because it means you’ve developed your own style.  but you’ll always encounter other creators who posses strengths that you don’t.  it doesn’t mean one is better than the other or that your writing isn’t good enough. 

comparing yourself like that would be like taking a piece of pizza & a cupcake & going “oh no, that cupcake is so sweet & my pizza isn’t sweet at all.” or “gosh, the garlic crust on that pizza is delicious and my cupcake doesn’t have ANY garlic.”  obviously your pizza isn’t sweet.  obviously your cupcake doesn’t have garlic.  a food can’t have every single delicious flavor at once.  the cupcake is good like a cupcake.  the pizza is good like a pizza.  so you don’t have to be good like them.  you can be good like you.

i am going to say this once and once only. if you do not like specific content, then simply do not consume it. do not go off on an author because YOU do not like the content they produce. do not threaten them because YOU do not enjoy their works. just simply do not interact with them and block them.

10. Do they have any markings, piercings or scars?

One notable thing about his skin is that he doesn't have clear, smooth skin; he does have imperfections on it like blemishes. He also has a couple freckles, one notable one being at the corner of his lip. Mostly on his arms, though, I think, and his back.

He doesn't have any piercings and I can't imagine him ever considering it either 😂 but I can see him getting a tattoo. I don't know what of, but it would probably be sentimental but I think it would also be an inside joke with himself, like only he (and maybe Fernando or Hisoka) would know what the tattoo meant exactly. I have been considering what tattoo he might get (where he would have the tattoo would probably be sentimental in some way as well, so idk where it would be until I know what the tattoo would be).

As for scars, I think his hands are rough but obviously that's only noticeable if you touch him; I think he often has scratches and things on his body but I don't think any of them are permanent and they heal over quickly except a very small one on his jawline where he got cut with a knife during training (an accident, obviously). I think it's pretty difficult to see unless you're close up to him.

Julian's novella, If I'm Lucky

It's in Julian's point of view, and spans from when he's eleven up until the beginning of The Beyond Academy. It might turn out to be a side novel and not a novella depending on word count lol but we'll see. Snippet:

We'd never leave each other, and that was the day we agreed on it. I linked my finger with his and pressed our foreheads together. My chest was rising and falling unexpectedly heavily. "Promise?" I whispered. I wasn't planning to tell anybody—not for a while, anyway. I wanted it to be ours. In that moment, everything was ours.

Fernando laughed a little and closed his eyes, tightening his finger around mine.

"Promise," he whispered.
