Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) Marble Zone
Following Green Hill we have Marble Zone. This zone introduces some puzzle elements and makes you use your brain, which is not a negative thing on its own, but combined with the fact that this level is slow, it makes for a pretty disappointing experience.
Sonic's entire gimmick is that he's fast, and you spend most of this zone doing somewhat precise and slow-paced platforming and waiting for obstacles to move.
The aesthetic of the levels is still nice, and the music matches the vibe well.
Overall, Marble Zone feels lackluster following Green Hill, but does provide a bit of a challenge that can be fun to work out.

Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) - Green Hill Zone (Zone 1)
Sonic 1, released in 1991, was created to be Sega's response to the popularity of Mario and Nintendo, and it starts out strong with the opening level of Green Hill.
What is not to love about this first level. The upbeat and iconic music, the beautifully designed landscape, the level design that allows for several paths of exploration while remaining simple enough to serve as an introduction to the world.
Green Hill Zone does everything right. There's a reason it keeps being brought back time and time again, because it's iconic nature goes beyond simply being the first look the world got of our favorite Blue Blur.

Welcome! This blog is going to be dedicated to my experience playing through (nearly) every Sonic game, in approximate release order, and documenting my thoughts on the experience.
I'll be playing the mainline games, along with the Game Gear games, the other handheld games, the Sonic Boom games, and any others I feel are notable. Excluded from my list are any arcade, mobile, educational, crossover, or puzzle-like games. If a game doesn't have a plotline, it won't be included either. Check out the list here.
Other than that, I'm hoping to receive the full Sonic experience! Along the way I might sprinkle in a bit of the other Sonic media such as the comics, TV shows, or movies, but my primary focus will be on the games.
I hope you enjoy joining me on this adventure!
