there is an entire subgenre of antisemitic trope that is basically just using “The Old Testament” (aka, just The Bible to Jews) as shorthand for all the ills of Fundamentalist Christian theology.

You have Christians using this trope to portray the Hebrew Bible (and by extension Judaism & the Jewish people) as inferior, outdated, or especially unforgiving in comparison to “The New Testament” (and by extension Christianity & the Church), in order to highlight a supposedly uniquely Christian propensity for love & kindness.

You have Christians using this trope to portray a fire & brimstone message or their own abusive & aggressive behavior as badass or a revival of some prelapsarian ideal—especially a hallmark of “edgy” preachers like Mark Driscoll, joking about “going Old Testament on their ass” or contrasting the perceived “weakness” of common portrayals of Jesus as meek & soft-spoken.

You have atheists almost exclusively citing passages from the Hebrew Bible to “disprove” Christianity and show how brutal/blood-thirsty/vengeful/genocidal “The Abrahamic God” (and by extension all religion—by which they mostly mean Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) is.

And through it all, Jews get the brunt of the blame for Fundamentalist Christian shitty interpretations of our texts. Like damn. We cannot catch a break.
